First and foremost I want to give a BIG HOORAY for Erma, who runs the front desk. She went out of her way to facilitate a reunion of 7 people to this lovely resort. Whenever we called before our venture, she was always so cheerful and helpful. Once we were there, this is the person who arranged rental cars, cabs, road directions, dinner reservations, etc. It looked like she worked 24 hours a day, and always cheerful. I could only wish all other vacation resorts we go to had someone as wonderful as Erma to ensure our vacation goes so smoothly.
This place is lovely because it is not huge. It's small size works to it's benefit as everyone coming gets to know one another. We made many new friends. It is very gay-friendly, but many straight couples, straight families, gay families arrive, and none of that matters. It is a very accepting and friendly resort.
The restaraunt attached to the resort is magnificent. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wed which is a shame as we ate there every night, and every meal was 4-star delicious. We would have been fine to eat there every night of the week. The rack of lamb is the best I have ever eaten..and I am a food snob! I ordered it 2 nights. Delicious!!
So I recommend that if you are there for a week ask Erma to arrange a rental car on the 2 nights the restaraunt is closed so that is when you explore the island, do the wonderful Cruzon Rum Factory Tour and explore Christiansted, and have your dinners elsewhere.
If you take a cab from the airport, the cab driver is OK letting you stop at the "Stop and Shop" grocery to load up on food for lunches, and maybe dinners. The rooms at this resort have kitchens so you can cook and entertain all your new friends you meet here.
They do offer a Continental breakfast every morning, but it is just muffins/bagels/etc. My partner cooked egg dishes every morning for everyone and that only expanded the friendly gatherings of all the guests.
My one complaint about this resort is that they lock up all the lounge chairs on the beach and never lay out beach umbrellas when it is a day no cruise ship is in. Cruise tourists are charged for laying on the beach with a lounge chair and umbrella, Guests at the resort are simply offered no beach conveniences unless they go to the front desk and make a scene. I always love laying on the sand reading a book while under an umbrella, but that does not happen here.
Over all I highly recommend this place as a way to meet new people and enjoy the excellent restaraunt attached next door. Be aware there are a lot of "No-See-Ums" that attack your legs and arms like mosquitoes. I was eaten up yet I never saw a bug!
