“Just for the Day A Great Day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

As noted in other reviews this hotel offers day-passes to cruise ship passengers. Our visit was in that context and we loved it. While we can't speak to the rooms, the grounds, beach, restaurant, bar and service were all great. We especially liked the all inclusive price for two chairs, an umbrella, and two drinks. We spent the entire day, had a great time, and would go back in a heart-beat.

I stayed at Sandcastle in late October, and wholeheartedly agree with all the positive things said by other reviewers. But I wanted to share an experience I had that really makes this hotel stand out. While snorkeling on Buck Island, I got caught in a shallow coral reef with very choppy water. I came back to the hotel that day in agony, with coral stings covering my legs and arms. Co-owner Simone heard what happened, did some research on coral sting treatments, and spent over two hours on a Friday night administering first-aid (graciously missing a planned dinner with friends). I was very agitated from the pain, and she was so soothing. The worst of my wounds were in a senstitive area, and she was so matter-of-fact about working on a total stranger's body. I also had some coral splinters, so she got in the car (again, late Friday night) in search of tweezers. She assembled a care package to leave in my room with items to make me more comfortable during the rest of my stay, including fresh aloe she cut herself from nearby plants and a special seat that allowed me to sit comfortably in spite of my wounds. I cannot imagine getting that kind of assistance at any other hotel. She was just wonderful. While first-aid availability is not something one considers when choosing a hotel, it is important that the hotel staff feels a sense of ownership and compassion towards its guests. Sandcastle has that in spades.

The moment we checked into the hotel the first thing we did was head to Da Beach!!! We were amazed by how close the beach was to the hotel and how clear the ocean was (we could see the fish swim by). Our room was spacious with a balcony with an ocean view as well as hearing the sounds of the ocean to put us to sleep at night. The entire staff was friendly and helpful...we did not have any negative encounters with anyone. The owners Simone and Sheryl were very knowledgeable about things to do and places to go snokling, shopping and about island history. One of the waitresses (Rita) kept us in stitches during dinner...she's so funny and awesome. The food at the restaurant was tasty (we tried something new everyday) and Scott made the best drinks. It was a very relaxing and fun atmosphere. We made a couple of friends while on vacation and we were all taking about visting again together. Overall, we will recommend this hotel to everyone and we can't wait to visit again.

Sand Castle on the Beach is the place to go if you want to get back to the simple life and forget about the high tech world. The beach is clean soft and beautiful, snorkle gear available and great fish and other creatures to see right there in front of your hotel. Rooms are clean and functional. The staff is great and Bruno is the man to see about all the island has to offer ( gotta love his New York talkin w/ the beach bum charm! ) ;) The restaurant there is the best place to eat for all meals. Although during off season they close tues-thurs. Bruno will tell ya where to go! Will come back again! Thanks for a memorable time!

Upon arrival at hotel we were immediately astonished by the lush beauty of the hotel grounds and gorgeous beach. On our first night we met Bruno, our on-site entertainer :) and Robert, who was the security guard. Bruno gave us inside scoop of places to visit and would would offer an honest opinion about staying safe on the island. Robert kept an eye on us, especially on our midnight swims in the beautiful ocean. He always made sure to say good night to us as we came back to our room and that made us feel secure. Throughout our entire vacation both made us feel at home.
Our room was large and clean, with a galley kitchen and a breakfast table. This allowed us to prepare snacks ourselves, which saved us some money. The bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean. Because of the proximity of our room to the lobby we were able to get Wi-fi in the room.
AJ served us free breakfast every morning, which consisted of English muffins, pastries, bagels, orange juice, coffee and tea. This gave us enough energy to explore the island.
We are planning another trip back in December and would not think of staying anywhere else other than our "second home" Sand Castles at the Beach.

Didn't stay here but bought a day pass. Beach was really nice. A couple have commented about cruise ship passengers, but even with about 60 other cruise passengers around, it didn't feel crowded to me. This hotel is well regarded and discussed frequently on cruise message boards so you can expect people when a cruise ship stops at St Croix. Seems most of the cruisers got there about 10 AM and were gone by about 2 PM. But I don't think a lot of ships stop here. Just an FYI. Staff was very friendly and they make a pretty good pina colada ($7) in the bar. Rum punch - not so much. They showed me a room and it was large and clean. I saw nreason not to stay here except you would probably want to get a car to get around. A sign said the restaurant was only open Thurs thru Sunday.

My wife and I spend a gloreous week at the Sand Castle on the Beach in July 2011 to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. The hotel staff were amazing to say the least.
Everyone we came in contact with at the hotel addressed us by our first names, which I can't say for any other place we have ever stayed at. The hotel itself was incredible. The 1 Bdrm suite we had was very clean and roomy, with a fabulous view of the water. All the locals we came in contact with all over the island of St Croix were extremely friendly and courteous. We are already planning to return next year for another wonderful stay.
