“WARNING, WARNING, WARNING!! PLEASE READ…”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

First, let me start by saying that I have never reported this type of review before and I hope to never have to experience it in the future. Bottom line: watch this place---it may appear to have what you are looking for but BEWARE of JEFF TEEL, the owner.

To piggyback off the gentlemen who had a bad experience when Jeff (the owner) was away, we have followed in his footsteps. My partner and I experienced an up & down rollercoaster ride of events on the property and it continued long after we left. The bottom line is that we did not get the service we were promised and Jeff made it difficult in the end to fulfill his promise of compensation.

In addition, Mr. Teel's letter and sworn affidavit was filled with false/inaccurate information. He lied about trying to contact us via phone to discuss the matter amicably. We learned from our bank that he refused to honor his original offer of compensation on behalf of our stay in March 2012. The St. Croix website has been removed and links you to his property in Maine, so it's possible he sold the property in St. Croix.

For the record…
Below you will find all of the various problems we encountered during our stay in 2012 at Villa Greenleaf (Total of 8 nights):
1) IMPORTANT NOTE: After arriving home to the states, we learned from our credit card company that we were charged the remaining balance of our bill BEFORE our arrival at Villa Greenleaf. Clearly, their policy ON THE WEBSITE THAT IS NOW GONE stated the following: Deposit/Payment Policy: 50% deposit is needed to make a reservation with the balance due upon check out. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, personal checks and cash. In other words, this was an UNAUTHORIZED transaction. Be careful with this!
2) After one night, we had to downgrade to a smaller, less expensive suite due to a leak/flood in the bathroom. In addition, the pocket door of bathroom in the FIRST room was stuck and did not close. There was no privacy. Asked Joe about it - it was not fixed.
4) Air conditioner was not working first night. Did not get a new remote until the next day AFTER reminding Joe.
5) **PHONES IN BOTH ROOMS DID NOT WORK. In case of an emergency, we could not get a hold of anyone when no one else was on the property (which was often). Not good!!!! No cell service. Did not have Joe's cell number either.
6) We did not have cleaning/room service 4 days out of 8. There was a note on the door one day that there was no cleaning. Other days, no one came at all. On another day, the cleaning person did not arrive/begin cleaning until 5pm and we had to leave the room for her to clean. Very disruptive.
6) TV in BOTH rooms did not have basic channels (NO news, NO weather, etc.).
7) No ceiling fan or lights working in second room patio during the entire stay. After rainfall, there was a leak in the patio area onto chairs.
8) In the middle of the trip, we had to use Joe's computer to complain to the owner, JEFF TEEL because we were told by Joe that Jeff couldn't be reached. We sent an e-mail to Jeff on the property asked him to contact us ASAP. He never called us on the property. We only received an e-mail from him when we arrived back in the states.
9) General lack of service. No professional hospitality or follow through. Joe made it clear that he was NOT MANAGEMENT and was there to keep an eye on the property.
10) After several e-mail exchanges, Jeff offered compensation and never followed through. As mentioned, he lied about leaving a voice mail message in his letter/affidavit. We had to put in a claim with our credit card company regarding the remaining balance which was denied. Be forewarned, most credit card companies fight the claim if you stay during the entire trip! Imagine that…here you are in the middle of your trip trying to find another place to stay, incurring MORE costs if you do AND this guy already charged you the full stay!!!!
11) We did NOT use the two rooms AT THE SAME TIME during our stay. Jeff's big thing was that we had the option of using both rooms. The first room had a flood in the bathroom and we downgraded to the room next to the waiting room and is LESS PER NIGHT. Would you use both rooms when one had a flood in the bathroom???
12) We NEVER, EVER said that “everything was FINE” as stated in his letter and in the affidavit signed by Joe, the MANAGER--again he was the BUDDY keeping any eye on things--not the Manager. We made numerous complaints to Joe.
15) As witnesses, there was another couple who stayed when we did (fighting their own claim) who experienced the same trials and tribulations.

Sadly, it is a beautiful, neglected property and maybe the NEW owners are reading this and can do better by treating patrons with respect. At least be truthful and give the guests a chance to explain their side of the story. Jeff Teel didn't do that...his arrogance and narcissism go the best of him.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

We were the only occupants of the Villa for a four-night stay during what seemed to be a slow November in St. Croix. We had made the reservation via email with Jeff who told us that he was stateside for an extended period due to a family emergency. We were told that Joe would be managing in his stead.

Unfortunately Joe was also having some family problems stateside, and was understandably somewhat preoccupied and distracted. Further, he said he had recently suffered a concussion and was having difficulty remembering things.

So, how did Joe's condition affect our stay....1) the breakfasts were repetitive and not as described in the website or other reviews. 2) one day no one made up our room, because Joe (according to the housekeeper) "forgot" to make arrangements for cleaning on a day she was not available and 3) our satellite TV went on the blink...not an outage but a loss of all programming except infomercial and preview channels. This would seem to imply a billing problem rather than a technical problem. Joe made some attempt to call for service, but then responded to us that "he didn't watch TV himself", and that "there were a lot of menus that he didn't understand", and that the no one was available to fix the problem for the remainder of our stay. 4) there was no "happy hour" with drinks and appetizers as described in the website - though we were indeed offered a rum punch on arrival.

These are admittedly minor quibbles but prevent us from giving a full 5 star recommendation. We feel that an establishment's level of service should be the same regardless of whether the owner is present and the number of guests.

On the positive side, Joe was helpful with dining and activity recommendations. Marilyn, who also seemed to do much of the breakfast cooking, was charming. The room was clean and spacious, and the screened porch was excellent. Coffee was available through one of those one cup at a time machines.

The location is very central for exploring all the island, and Judi's car rental, recommended by Jeff, was perfect.

Room Tip: The Belvedere and Claremont have the best views from the porch, and seem equivalent...The Belv. gets...

Staying at Villa Greenleaf was an absolute treat. The property is gorgeously maintained and located smack dab in the middle of everything fun St. Croix has to offer. (Great Restaurants, beaches and close to Christiansted)

The rooms are clean, welcoming and bereft of any petty criticism. The bed is big and comfy and the cool AC was a nice welcome from the heat.
The huge two person showers are perfect for washing off the stress of a full day at the beach (and with the detachable shower head you can get ALL of the sand washed off of you, which is a HUGE bonus)
Our hands down favorite amenity is the screened in living room porch. There was no better way to relax than with the soft breeze off the Caribbean and a good book. Seriously, you get all the effects of a day spent outside, smelling the frangipani blossoms caught in the breeze, watching the sun carry across the sea, without any of the pesky distractions like mosquitos or noisy neighbors.

Above each room is a rooftop porch for private sunning. Awesome.

The pool looks out over the ocean and is meticulously maintained by the Manager, Joe. He's a kind, affable guy that made sure nothing was amiss during our stay.

All in all, there is no other place on St. Croix that I would recommend to stay at. Villa Greenleaf has it all.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great!

If you're looking for a lot of nightlife and touristy scenes, St. Croix is not the place to go. But if you're looking to seek out beautiful empty beaches and meet some wonderful people, stay at the Villa Greenleaf. Both the people who run the place and the people who were staying there were lovely and really helped us get the lay of the land (Thanks, Joe). The rooms are huge, clean, beautiful views of the whole island. Breakfasts were delicious and cocktail hour was a lot of fun (Thanks, Justin!). I felt like I was staying in a good friend's home. Very welcoming and definitely worth a visit.

A wonderful place, graciously and personally managed by the owner who looked after us from the moment of touch down on the island until departure. The beautifully and tastefully furnished rooms have a spectacular sea views from their own screened patio and their own roof sun terrace. It is the right place for people who do not need seaside and respective entertainment on the doorstep. Although there is no restaurant the owner serves amazing breakfast and delicious sundowners in the main house. Many great restaurants in Christiansted not to be missed. Car for moving around the island is highly recommended and can be arranged by the owner on arrival.

Well this was our second visit to Saint Croix and our second stay at Villa Greenleaf. Jeff is a fantastic host at this lovely B and B set away from the beach and away from heavy traffic in a lovely setting surrounded by nature with gorgeous sweeping view of the Islands. The grounds are well kept, from the dining area, to the bedroom, to the pool. Jeff is extremely accommodating and asked if we had any food preferences or allergies and provided soy milk at our request. Access to tea and coffee at all hours. His eggs benedict and berry pancakes are killer! He makes an amazing rum punch at cocktail hour with yummy hors devours! He also gladly makes reservations to any of the great restaurants on the Island. We have stayed in both the Bellevedere and the Clairmont room, both are the largest rooms of the 5 with gorgeous views of the ocean from your private screened in patio. Nearby restaurants and downtown Christiansted is only a short drive away. Saint Croix and Villa Greenleaf is beginning to feel like our home away from home. When you drive up and see Jeff and his incredibly friendly and lovable dog Metro, know that you are in good hands!

The Villa has become one of my favorite places on the planet!! With just 5 rooms, it offers privacy and attention to detail that larger resorts can't.

The grounds are immaculate. The food is wonderful. The staff is inviting and courteous.

If you're looking for heaven on earth... this is the spot!
