What an amazing pleasure it was to arrive at Chenay Bay Beach Resort. We booked our unit through RCI and frankly one can never be sure with the RCI ratings.

Chenay Bay is a cluster of lovely west Indies style cottages on a small hill overlooking the bay. The bay is pristine with a nature reserve to the West and a long strand of pink sand and coral beach, undeveloped and picturesque. The resort is simple not glitzy. Recent renovations after the hurricane have been substantial. All the cottages are being upgraded but as most stand are still very sweet and complete in every way. Our cottage number 8 was brand new. 1 bedroom with a pull out double couch. Full kitchen, fantastic 4 head shower and an outdoor enclosed shower room as well. All mahogany furniture. Plantation style and very upscale. Wide screen tv's air con the works or you could just open the windows screened and let the trade winds pass through!

The staff is very pleasant. Patty and Burke head up the club Navigo sales end of things and they will make you feel like part of the family. Professional and caring. No hard sales pitch the kind you hate! They will provide exactly what you need to make a decision about the time share possibilities and let you make your own decisions! They really made our stay even more remarkable.

Miss Chenay at the desk along with her colleagues will assure you that anything you request will be considered as if they were doing their job for one of their own family. We felt loved and cherished and nurtured during our stay. A rare experience in the world of travel these days.

This was my first trip to St. Croix and stayed at this resort for my friend's wedding for 4 nights and 3 days. If I go back to St. Croix I will for sure look into booking here again. The staff was so friendly! Not a mean one in the bunch. They truly treat you like family at Chenay Bay. This was the most laid back and peaceful place I've ever been. My last morning there I thought I was going to start crying because I never wanted to leave. The only qualms that I have about the resort is the beach and the no see-ums. The beach was just ok. I didn't feel like swimming in the water because it wasn't very clear and the beach's sand was a bit rough and in some places painful to walk on. I ended up kayaking to Green Cay and the beach there is beautiful, sugar fine sand and crystal clear water. The no see-ums were very annoying and I still have bites on my legs and feet a few weeks after coming home. Just make sure that you buy bug spray!

As one of the timeshare owners, I love this resort for its beauty and location, and because the rooms are private villas with rocking chairs on the porches. From my porch are beautiful views of the ocean at the edge of the inifinity pool. This time of year is ideal because it is quiet with available chairs at the pool and beach. New management took over the property 2 years ago and have done some amazing things. There is a beautiful reception area and the paths have been paved for easier access. The bar and restaurant have been renovated with a delicious menu and great dinner specials during the week. We hang at the bar more now and eat dinner there often. And thanks to the bartenders, D and Eric, we had a great time and great service. Many locals come by for dinner and drinks as well, which says alot for the resort. The staff has greatly improved, everyone is very friendly and greets you by name. Burke is a new addition to the staff. We called him the Chenay Bay ambassador. He was busy making sure the guests were having fun, scheduling tours, cleaning the beach, entertaining at the bar, giving tours of the new cottages. Anything you need...you go to Burke! One of Chenay Bay's icons is Melda, head of housekeeping. She is a gem and has been there for years. Chenay Bay wouldn't be the same without her!! Larita, our housekeeper, was very sweet and extremely accomodating. Patty did a beautiful job with TWO weddings the weekend we were there. What was also nice is the other guests who were also there during our vacation. Very nice, interesting, great fun. We enjoyed all the company!

Things that still need improvement: BUGS! BUGS! BUGS! Get the sprayer fixed and working. You need to spray to minimize bug exposure!! There needs to be someone to greet arriving guests at reception/check in other the person working the desk. Someone should be at the desk at all times, not always the case. And finding cottages is confusing in the dark. There is noone to say welcome or escort you to your cottage. On check in, we never received a sheet with activities for the week. We had to ask around. There also needs to be a check list for the cottages. Some have old mattresses, missing kitchen items and coffee pots, tile is cracked and looking worn, marble floors needs polishing. Some of the cottages are looking a little worn. The tablecloths and curtains are dusty and dirty. It looks like the housekeepers move a mop over the floor which moves the dirt into corners and against base boards. They need a general "spring cleaning" once in a while to not only clean but change light bulbs, fix drawers, replace missing furniture (ie coffee tables), general maintenance. Need to take time to bring these cottages up to speed before starting any major big projects. And fix the cable system...find someone who knows how to reset and work the system. Your maintenance guys do not. 10 days of snow and 6 channels are unacceptable. We had a new flat screen tv and couldn't watch it. Told maintenance 6 days in a row to no avail.

All in all, Chenay Bay is a great vacation to get away from all the hustle and bustle. It is on its way to becoming the gem of St. Croix. There are beautiful beaches all over the island and plenty of snorkeling and boat activities. But its always nice to just crash on the Chenay Bay beach and have D serve you one of his Pink Lemonades!!

This was our second time in St Croix so needless to say we enjoy the island very much. You can get away from people at any time in so many secluded, beautiful places... Lots of shoreline accessible by foot trails and more public beaches on all sides of the island... just a wonderful place.. very laid back..
We didn't like this resort as much as the last one.. IT was smaller than the last one and a bungalow style setting, this concept appealed to us. It seemed like.... well an older people's resort, however.. Just wasn't an atmosphere for younger folks and the drinks at the bar were really expensive... The staff wasn't that friendly aside from a few of them.. The management seemed irritated and was openly frustrated with the staff..
You could borrow kayaks and flippers and life vests whenever you wanted, this was really nice... the little island out in front of the resort was a fun kayak trip and there was some nice snorkeling out there.. We saw some neat stuff, a sea turtle and octopus.. The cleaning staff always brought clean towels even if you didn't want your rooms cleaned, this was quite nice.
I recommend this resort but probably not to young couples.. Still a nice experience, however and if we go back we will probably go say ' hi' to the bar staff.

If you are looking for a high priced fancy resort, Chenay Bay is not for you. We spent 9 days at Chenay Bay a few days after hurricane Omar hit and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff did an excellent job in cleaning up the damage, and getting the place back in service. Our cottage was exactly as you can find on the virtual tour from the Expedia site. We had a full sized refrigerator and two burner stove with microwave and toaster. Cooked dinner several nights and made good use of our porch overlooking the pool. We had some hurricane related outages of both power (minimal), and cable, but they were both up and running when we left on October 30. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We got to know many of the staff by name, and almost daily they can by our cottage to chat and see that we had everything we needed. The beach was not available during our stay (but I got in anyways) due to the hurricane churning the water and increasing the bacteria level. The ocean was always calm, but there is a lot of sea grass which might be a problem to some. When we left, the beach got an all clear by the authorities. We used the pool several days which was enjoyable. The shallow end of the pool is 4.5 to 5 feet, so if you are short and not a good swimmer, this could be a problem. We also ate at the Shores Restaurant (on site) for breakfast, and had both the Friday night $15 all you can eat fish fry (beer battered cod?), cole slaw, potato salad and french fries and the Wednesday night $6 cheese burger and $10 for a bucket of 5 beers. All in all we had a great time and would recommend Chenay Bay to anyone looking for a reasonably priced clean comfortable place to stay.

As for the reviewer who complained about the additional fees, we paid them too, but they were disclosed to us by Hotels.Com at the time we booked. These were for what appears to be taxes and the service fee for using the site to book the hotel.

  • Liked — Good Value, Great Staff
  • Disliked — Bring you bug spray. After hurricane lots of biting bugs

Despite being hit by Hurrincane Omar just days before our arrival, the staff at Chenay Bay Beach Resort managed to put this beautiful resort back to pieces. Everyone was very accommodating to my husband and myself, all we had to do was ask and every staff member bent over backwards to make sure our stay was just right. We stayed in cabin 50 which is next on the list for renovation. I think it was the best location in the resort, especially for the price that we paid. The restaurant was very good and affordable with excellent views. The infinity pool was the best pool I have ever experienced. I brought earplugs and did not need them for sleeping. This was THE most relaxing vacation my husband and I have ever been on. We practically had the resort to ourselves because it was off season but the weather was still amazing. We ended up renting a car, which I would recommend to explore the island. Food is expensive at the stores nearby but we expected this. Christiansted seemed "scary" upon our initial impression but once we experienced the quaintness and as long as you stayed within the boardwalk area, everyone was very friendly and we felt very safe. Be careful exploring Point Udall, the farthest spot in the eastern USA. There have been increasing reports of car break ins (ie. damaging rental cars) even though the area is so very desolate. The timeshare people were not overly aggressive whatsoever, as we have experienced in the past as owners. In fact, I think we did receive a very fair offer, but the timing was not right for us. We will definitely go back one day, maybe the same time next year. We would even consider bringing our kids for the cultural experience although they may find it too slow of a vacation for their liking. Driving on the left is an experience and the mongoose all over the island was something different for us as well. Thanks Patty, Birke, "D", Jesse, Anna, Jake, Philip, Victor and Geneva for making our week an awesome one. You guys are great!
