My husband and I went to Cheney Bay for a relaxing time and that is exactly what we received! Cheney Bay was the best on the Island in our Opinion! We had Wonderful service! I'm not sure if they have changed employees since the other reviews were written, but service was the number one priority while we were there! Patty and Diane was just wonderful. Dee and Jay were the best bartendars and made the night life so enjoyable, and even the kitchen staff, from Keshia to Chris and Kim were the best! Also, the front desk staff were great at checking us in and helped us with anything we needed, even driving us around in a golf cart if we needed. This resort was remote and quiet, which we really needed, but everyone was willing to give you directions to where ever you wanted to go, and Diane even got up early on Sunday morning so we could follow her to the harbor (because we didn't know where we were going) and gave us the Cheney Bay parking space for the day for our snorkeling trip. We were treated very well, and felt like family. It was really nice to see the mongoose's right outside the cottages, and there is a great iguana living behind the swing set in the trees. I named him Fred.
As far as the bugs, for crying out loud, take bug spray. And a foot note about that, they have bug spray and will spray you down at the bar or resturant. The bugs are all over the island. Also, If you use Banana Boat Aloe after sun lotion, it will keep the bugs off.
We stayed in 49, right on the water, and it was wonderful. They put me in that room at check in because I am disabled, and can not walk very far. I just called before I went, and they were very accomodimating. Also, they were building a new cottage right behind ours and it was not loud. The builders came about 9 am and left about pm. My husband slept right through it.
Get a rental car from Judi's and go to Point Udall. Also, go down the path and see where the turtles are migrating and laying their eggs. Also, get a Kayac and go around the rocky point and see the Iguanas in the wild. There is one there that is at least 40 years old and about 7 feet long. He is the king. I was disapointed in Buck Island. Everyone on Big Beard's were really great, but the reef is about 80% dead! We did see a beautiful sea turtle swimming by our boat and the BBQ was really good.
We really have great snorkeling at Cheney Bay. We saw more sea life and it was beautiful. The best things we did and saw were free!
Also, walk down the beach at Cheney Bay and back into the trees where you can see the wildlife. It is so peaceful and beautiful! There are paths and it is very enjoyable!
The food at the Resort is very good. Thursday night is wing night, and I am from Texas, but these were the best wings I have ever had. Friday night is all you can eat fish night. Fried cod with all of the fixings and Sat was Steak night. The other nights were the regular menu and very good. They have music every night, from D.J.'s to Pan Bands, to a great Sax player. We didn't even leave the resort for the first 48 hours.
I couldn't say enough about the great time we have and how well we were treated. We will be returning and taking family next time. This is one on the best Resorts we have stayed at.
Also, if you want your hair braided, ask Keshia at the kitchen, she is a waitress, she will call her friend, Kay, and she will come over and do it right at the resort. Also, lay on the cabana beds at night, great experience!
We can not wait to go back.
