My husband and I LOVED Chaney Bay!. The staff is wonderful and make you feel so much at home. The cottages are very cute and cozy with a real feel of the Carribian and great views. The resturant/ bar [right on the beach] has great food for all and also specials that can't be beat.
Another great aspect is that it is close to shopping, sightseeing, watersports, ect.
We enjoyed it so much that we can't wait to go back again. We want this to be our perminant vacation spot as we know they are adding a lot of inhancements to the property and we look forward to seeing all the wonderful staff again that we had befriended while we were there.

“Amazing Resort, Will Go Again!”

Chenay Bay Beach Resort

My husband and I went to Cheney Bay for a relaxing time and that is exactly what we received! Cheney Bay was the best on the Island in our Opinion! We had Wonderful service! I'm not sure if they have changed employees since the other reviews were written, but service was the number one priority while we were there! Patty and Diane was just wonderful. Dee and Jay were the best bartendars and made the night life so enjoyable, and even the kitchen staff, from Keshia to Chris and Kim were the best! Also, the front desk staff were great at checking us in and helped us with anything we needed, even driving us around in a golf cart if we needed. This resort was remote and quiet, which we really needed, but everyone was willing to give you directions to where ever you wanted to go, and Diane even got up early on Sunday morning so we could follow her to the harbor (because we didn't know where we were going) and gave us the Cheney Bay parking space for the day for our snorkeling trip. We were treated very well, and felt like family. It was really nice to see the mongoose's right outside the cottages, and there is a great iguana living behind the swing set in the trees. I named him Fred.
As far as the bugs, for crying out loud, take bug spray. And a foot note about that, they have bug spray and will spray you down at the bar or resturant. The bugs are all over the island. Also, If you use Banana Boat Aloe after sun lotion, it will keep the bugs off.
We stayed in 49, right on the water, and it was wonderful. They put me in that room at check in because I am disabled, and can not walk very far. I just called before I went, and they were very accomodimating. Also, they were building a new cottage right behind ours and it was not loud. The builders came about 9 am and left about pm. My husband slept right through it.
Get a rental car from Judi's and go to Point Udall. Also, go down the path and see where the turtles are migrating and laying their eggs. Also, get a Kayac and go around the rocky point and see the Iguanas in the wild. There is one there that is at least 40 years old and about 7 feet long. He is the king. I was disapointed in Buck Island. Everyone on Big Beard's were really great, but the reef is about 80% dead! We did see a beautiful sea turtle swimming by our boat and the BBQ was really good.
We really have great snorkeling at Cheney Bay. We saw more sea life and it was beautiful. The best things we did and saw were free!
Also, walk down the beach at Cheney Bay and back into the trees where you can see the wildlife. It is so peaceful and beautiful! There are paths and it is very enjoyable!
The food at the Resort is very good. Thursday night is wing night, and I am from Texas, but these were the best wings I have ever had. Friday night is all you can eat fish night. Fried cod with all of the fixings and Sat was Steak night. The other nights were the regular menu and very good. They have music every night, from D.J.'s to Pan Bands, to a great Sax player. We didn't even leave the resort for the first 48 hours.
I couldn't say enough about the great time we have and how well we were treated. We will be returning and taking family next time. This is one on the best Resorts we have stayed at.
Also, if you want your hair braided, ask Keshia at the kitchen, she is a waitress, she will call her friend, Kay, and she will come over and do it right at the resort. Also, lay on the cabana beds at night, great experience!
We can not wait to go back.

My husband and I just renewed our wedding vows at Chenay Bay. We also stayed there for 9 days. Over the course of the week my family and friends occupied 10 rooms. The rooms were beautifully decorated and clean. They had been newly renovated and the beds were very comfortable.

The staff were the friendliest people we met in a very long time. My husband and I travel frequently, at least 10 times a year, so I can tell you Chenay Bay staff are awesome. They are constantly trying to please you. The cleaning woman actually folded my 21 year old son's clothes that he left laying around in his room.

As for the bartender, Dee, is the man!!!!!!! When have you ever sat in the ocean and have a bartender deliver drinks to you without asking?????

The food in the restaurant was delicious and fairly priced. The music at night was entertaining. We danced the night away.

Our group consisted of 25 people from15 years old to 81 years old, and everyone had an awesome time.

Some of the reviews are ridiculous. Oh by the way, St. Croix is known for it's mongoose. They are cute ferret/ prairie dog looking animals. Adorable!!! Cuter than our common squirrel. They eat snakes and rodents! You may be lucky enough to see them around the gardens.

I can't wait to go back!!!!! We will definately be staying at Chenay Bay again.

“WONDERFUL STAY!!!”

Just got back from a wonderful stay at Chenay Bay during the first week of May 2008. My boyfriend and I stayed in room/guest house 33 and it was great. Nice new wood vaulted ceilings, new tile floors, decent size bathroom and wonderful kitchen area. There was a new air conditioner placed on the wall along with a ceiling fan that kept the room cool. We never once heard or experienced construction work like some of these other reviews say. There were visible construction sites on some of the rooms/houses, however nothing enough to bother us or wake us up during the morning/night. The beach was wonderful and private, plenty of lounging chairs, umbrellas, and even beds to lay out on during the day. There is also a little surf/beach shop where you can rent equipment which we took full advantage of snorkling, kayaking, and even mini sailboats that they had available. Surprisingly there is some good snorkeling right in the little bay outside of the resort! Right off of the beach is the bar and restaurant which were FABULOUS! Everyone was very friendly and kind and brought some fun and excitement to our vacation. All of the bartenders/waitrers/waitresses are great people and were always interested in getting to know us and there were happy hour or meal deals almost everyday to take advantage of during our stay. The pool was also beautiful with the view and remained fairly quiet besides a few pool basketball games. The water was clean and there was also a nice seperated hot tub. The infinity edge view of the pool is amazing and was nice to look out at on the water during a sunset. The food at the restaurant/bar was also great, the whole island is a little pricey on food items, however it was all worth it with many food options and good drink specials! The only real complaints I have did not deal with the resort in general, rather the bugs were a big problem but with some bug spray on before it gets dark it shouldn't be too bad of a problem. It was also inconvenient for us because we were not old enough to rent a car and the taxi prices added up to a lot traveling to and from Christiansted (the main closest town- only about a 10 minute drive) so I would definitely suggest renting a car. We got scuba diving certified at S.C.U.B.A. (St Croix Underwater Bluewater Adventure) which was absolutely wonderful and located in downtown Christiansted right off of the boardwalk! The staff and instructors were extremely nice and helpful and made it a fun time while learning and out on the boat. The diving was also phenomenol! There are many great restaurants in town to check out too! Definitely check out Buck Island for some snorkeling fun and make a trip up to the jungle to the Domino Club to feed the pigs some beer and drink some mamawanna! Overall we had a great experience and made a lot of friends at the resort that we were able to hang out with during the day and even go out with at night if we wanted! Vacation is about relaxing, having fun, and enjoying your time which is definitely not a problem here at Chenay Bay!

“Worst hotel stay ever!”

Chenay Bay Beach Resort

May 19, 2008

Don't stay here unless you want to hear and watch construction every day. They are building new units in front of existing ones. They are chopping down trees, digging up the grass and running load weed wackers and leaf blowers every day. One hole day there was a maintenance guy fixing the founains at the pool. I had to change rooms after my first night because of overbooking and the second room had big bugs, a huge puddle under the dripping air conditioner, NO hot water for two days, and I had a piece of jewelry stolen from my bathroom. The manager avoided me for days following the theft and only after I finally told the front desk that I was checking out did he tell me that he was going to move me again to a nicer room. A few days after leaving I checked my credit card on-line and not only did they not refund me for the 5 nights that I stayed at another hotel but they overcharged me for the 5 nights that I did stay there. I booked on their web site but did not get the 5th night free as advertised. I do reccomend visiting St. Croix but not at Chenay!
