“Really Enjoyable Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2011

We stayed at The Hibiscus for a week in September. It was perfectly located between Christiansted and Frederiksted, the two main areas of the island where you will most likely want to spend time. The views from our room and balcony were amazing and we were so close to the beach and the water. The hotel felt safe (which was important to me) and it was quiet and relaxing. I loved reading in the hammocks on the beach. It isn't fancy, but the room was clean and a good size. There was a tv and refrigerator in the room which was great for snacks. The bathrooms could stand a little updating, but it is a great deal for the money. The rooms were cleaned every day. The free continental breakfast is somewhat basic, so if you are looking for something hearty in the morning you will need to order off the menu. The dinner specials were always really good. Ask Danny at the bar for his recommendation! The staff in general was super friendly and made sure we were enjoying our stay. I am sure we will be back to St. Croix and we would definitely stay at The Hibiscus again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony as the views are gorgeous!

We spent (my husband and I) a week at the Hibiscus. We rented a car and enjoyed the entire island. The staff was very, very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean, but needs a little updating. The bathroom needs more than a little updating. We were able to look past the updating needs because of our location. We have beach access with an incredible view. We had the Continental Breakfast most mornings (very, very basic) and ordered off the breakfast menu once or twice. We had an excellent evening meal at the resturant. We didn't eat at the same place twice the entire week we were here. There is seaweed on the beach, but it is a nesting area so it makes perfect sense. I would recommend to the management/owners to work on the roofs. Blue tarps (and I understand there were storms, but we didn't see any other building/hotels with blue tarps) on the roofs are a bit concerning.... Anyway, we had a lovely time and would definitely go back to St Croix.

Room Tip: try to request a room right on the beach, definitely worth it!

Thank you for your kind review. I’m glad that you rented a car and traveled the island. St Croix is definitely an island best explored by vehicle, when possible. I appreciate that you felt the Hibiscus was right for your circumstances. Thank you for the nice comments about Laura, I’ll be sure and pass them on.

my husband and i just stayed ther for 5 days in oct. we rented a car, so we were able to see all the other hotels on the island, and boy were we lucky to have picked the hibiscus. our room was right on the beach, so we awoke to a beach sunrise every morning. the rooms are very clean, and a great deal for the money. the restaurant has great food, so you really would never have to leave. the entire staff goes out of their way to help in any way, but one person really stands out, laura patterson, the bartender at the restaurant. from our first night she made us feel like island regulars. she's an ace behind the bar.

Room Tip: spend the extra to be right on the beach

Stayed there for a week in September and had a great experience. It was our first trip to St. Croix. The resort location was perfect for us as we rented a car and were able to get anywhere on the island we needed. The hotel is not the Ritz, but the room was clean and the view of from the Balcony (Room #4) was excellent. The bathrooms could stand to be updated, but they were clean and the water was hot. There was seaweed all along the beach, but blame Mother Nature for that and not the hotel. The best part of the hotel was definitely the staff at Hibiscus. Everyone was very welcoming and made every effort to ensure your needs were met. Danny behind the bar makes some great drinks and provided us with great insight about things to do and places to go throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend the Hibiscus and imagine that when we return to St. Croix we will be staying there again.

Thank you for your review. I appreciate you sharing your experience. You are correct, the bathrooms do need to be updated, and we are embarking on a refurbishment for them, as well as other areas of aesthetics. I am glad that your experience was great and that you found our staff accommodating. While there are occasionally issues with things such as bathrooms or seaweed, it would never be acceptable for there to be issues with our hospitality. I am pleased to know you would stay with us again in the future.

I just returned from a week and a half stay at the Hibiscus and loved every minute of it. The staff was great. They were all extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar was a great little place to pick up a meal and share some drinks with friends. The location could not be any better. You can walk right out your back door and start snorkeling! When I return to the island, I will definitely be staying at the Hibiscus.

Thank you for your kind review. I am glad that your visit was so enjoyable. Coming in the Off-Season or Shoulder-Season can make for a very affordable visit, even for extended visits. Beaches are often vacant from even a handful of tourists and you can begin to feel like the island belongs to you alone. I am pleased that your stay was not interrupted by inclement weather and that your entire visit was one in which you enjoyed every minute. This is what makes our jobs so fulfilling. Smiles and thanks.
