“Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2011

Stayed there for a week in September and had a great experience. It was our first trip to St. Croix. The resort location was perfect for us as we rented a car and were able to get anywhere on the island we needed. The hotel is not the Ritz, but the room was clean and the view of from the Balcony (Room #4) was excellent. The bathrooms could stand to be updated, but they were clean and the water was hot. There was seaweed all along the beach, but blame Mother Nature for that and not the hotel. The best part of the hotel was definitely the staff at Hibiscus. Everyone was very welcoming and made every effort to ensure your needs were met. Danny behind the bar makes some great drinks and provided us with great insight about things to do and places to go throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend the Hibiscus and imagine that when we return to St. Croix we will be staying there again.

Thank you for your review. I appreciate you sharing your experience. You are correct, the bathrooms do need to be updated, and we are embarking on a refurbishment for them, as well as other areas of aesthetics. I am glad that your experience was great and that you found our staff accommodating. While there are occasionally issues with things such as bathrooms or seaweed, it would never be acceptable for there to be issues with our hospitality. I am pleased to know you would stay with us again in the future.

I just returned from a week and a half stay at the Hibiscus and loved every minute of it. The staff was great. They were all extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar was a great little place to pick up a meal and share some drinks with friends. The location could not be any better. You can walk right out your back door and start snorkeling! When I return to the island, I will definitely be staying at the Hibiscus.

Thank you for your kind review. I am glad that your visit was so enjoyable. Coming in the Off-Season or Shoulder-Season can make for a very affordable visit, even for extended visits. Beaches are often vacant from even a handful of tourists and you can begin to feel like the island belongs to you alone. I am pleased that your stay was not interrupted by inclement weather and that your entire visit was one in which you enjoyed every minute. This is what makes our jobs so fulfilling. Smiles and thanks.

The Hibiscus resort is next to the Palms. I walked over there for a sunset drink on the beach and dinner another night. The food was good and the service was great. Toni was our waitress. She had a wonderful personality and was great with our 4 year old son. I would definately go back there because of her. Thank you.

Thank you for your review. Because we are located adjacent to another property along the beach, our guests oftentimes will dine at their restaurant and their guests will oftentimes dine at our restaurant, which makes it very convenient and nice for a change of pace. I appreciate that although you stayed at the adjacent property, you dined with us and you took the time to write about your experience at our restaurant. I have showed Toni your review and it left her with a smile and appreciation.

The original plan was Miami Beach to celebrate my birthday, which is close to Labor Day, but Saint Croix was cheaper because of the promotions and shoulder season.

At that price, why not check out the Virgin Islands?

If you're expecting a fancy, luxurious hotel, this is NOT the spot for you. Hibiscus is what one would call....quaint. It's also directly on the beach...as in when I opened my glass doors, there was OCEAN.

The bathroom was clean and functional, but needed updating.

The restaurant and bar could use a facelift as well, but the food was delicious. You have to try Miss Aggie's Coconut Rum French Toast, and get Danny to make you a Lime in da Coconut.

The room was nicely decorated and the views of the beach and the coconut trees are absolutely breathtaking.

As for the beach-you are in a turtle nesting area. The seaweed can't be cleaned from the beach as often because it disturbs the eggs. This beach in general is very NATURAL.There is plenty of vegetation here and the sea floor becomes rocky few feet in. There is a small coral reef outside of the restaurant-take advantage of the FREE snorkel gear and check it out!

John Jr. and his staff are absolutely top-notch. We felt very much taken care of and new everyone-including the local cab drivers-by name by the end of the trip.

I have lots more to share about Saint Croix beyond the resort-feel free to contact me with questions!

Room Tip: If you're looking for the shortest walk to your beach chairs, try to get a first floor room 1-3.

Thank you for your review. I am glad that you chose the Caribbean and St Croix for a change of pace. And I am glad that you were not disappointed. We have had hundreds of baby turtles hatching on our beach in the past few weeks, which is an amazing and unforgettable event for adults and children alike, an experience like none other, so occasionally there are times when we have to limit our activity of beach cleaning. But the beach is so long and extends around a cove so there is plenty of area to get into the ocean. Plus when you are on an island like St Croix with so many magnificent beaches, you should never limit yourself to just one location. I am so happy that your visit was an experience to remember.

We selected this resort for our honeymoon for several reasons. Primarily, we got a fantastic rate using one of their promotions. Second, we wanted something center island so we would be able to access both west and east with relative ease. Third, we are fans of smaller, quaint, intimate, funky kinds of places, and this seemed to fit the bill.

We had just come from our wedding on St. Thomas, where we spent the week with 50 of our closest friends and favorite family members. It was nice to get to our St. Croix honeymoon spot and find an uncrowded spot where we could relax and have some privacy.

The staff at this hotel is phenomenal. Everyone seemed to be determined to meet our every need. The accommodation is roomy enough, with a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, but some room upgrade is needed. Tiles in the shower were broken or missing, and I nearly pulled my shoulder trying to slide the sliding door. However, as soon as I asked, someone came with a can of WD40 and worked the track to make it a little bit easier. Our car was discovered with a flat in the parking lot and a fellow on staff just showed up with a portable compressor to put air in it so we could get to the Rental agency. All kinds of little touches.

The beach was disappointing because of Sargassum that's affecting much of the Caribbean. Wow, this stuff can smell like a circus menagerie that's been in town for a week. Pew! It also made swimming less inviting. But the beach itself was wonderful with lots of lounges for relaxing and sunning.

The restaurant was recently taken over by the resort rather than being rented out to an independent restaurateur. We loved the place. There is a basic bar-type menu, but each night two or three changing specials are offered. Each one we tried was very good. The service, again, was just wonderful. The bar has an interesting assortment of regulars, and it was a great place to hang out. Live music one night just made it even more perfect.

We plan to return to St. Croix and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Thank you for your review. It makes me happy to see the little things that the staff did to help make your stay one which was pleasant. We’re all here to assist however we can. You are correct that the seaweed was quite extensive this year, and it was a different type of seaweed than we normally get every now and then on St Croix. Of course, it’s the ocean and it’s nature, and the currents and tides carried it away just as it had brought it in, but it was quite an unusual sighting and even passengers in airplanes had mentioned noticing it below, floating in huge football field size patches in the ocean. Some of this was no doubt was pushed our way by the tropical storms which were out in the Atlantic, but we haven’t had it again since. It was my first experience with this in over 4 years of living on St Croix but like you, I understood that it was in much of the Caribbean at that time. I’m glad that you plan a return visit and that you’ll be staying with us when you do. Thank you again.
