“First visit to St. Croix”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

My family and I stayed at Tamarind Reef Resort last week and had a wonderful time! The view from our rooms were beautiful. The rooms need some updating but the views made up for that. Sharon at the front office was very helpful and always with a smile on her face. We also enjoyed all of the activities that were included for guests of the resort. Thanks to Mason and Brooks at the shack for all of their help and for being so friendly. We also enjoyed every meal that we had, which was daily, at The Deep End Restaurant. The staff were all so nice and the service was great. The entertainment was great each night. We would definitely stay here again. If you choose to stay here and need a cab service we highly recommend Wilson's Taxi Service. Wilson does airport runs as well as tours of the island or just to dinner or to town. His phone number is 340-277-1807. I would also suggest Duggans for dinner and Armstrongs Ice Cream for homemade ice cream.

Room Tip: We loved being on the ground floor steps from the water.

My partner and I stayed at Tamarind Reef for a week to celebrate my 50th birthday in April 2014. We loved our stay from beginning to end. Yes, the views are beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable, but the friendliness of the staff made it extra special. My birthday fell on "Disco Bingo Night" at the Deep End bar and grill, and we were treated to complimentary drinks, a birthday cake, and a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday" sung by everyone in the bar! Brenda at the beach shack helped us find the perfect fit snorkel and fins, and entertained us with stories about the island and her Olympic snowboarding son.

The first three days of our trip were windy and the water was too rough to snorkel, so we rented a car and drove to the west side of the island which is protected from the trade winds; there the water was as smooth as glass, we snorkeled Frederiksted pier (amazing! check out "N2 The Blue" for guided snorkel trips) and we hung out on Rainbow beach. On the 4th day the winds finally died down enabling us to snorkel the Tamarind reef and it was gorgeous, we saw turtles, a large school of blue tang, puffer fish (some as big as a football), large purple and yellow sea fans, and plenty of other colorful reef fish.

We also enjoyed playing tennis on the well-maintained courts, kayaking to the Green Cay island, I swam a few laps in the large pool (with swim lanes, thank you!) every day, and my partner took advantage of the health club with a good variety of exercise equipment. In the evenings we watched movies on the Dish network, and we rented a DVD player from the front-desk so we could watch our own movie collection.

As a gay couple we felt very welcome here, which is not always the case in the Caribbean. Please note, this is not a high-end resort, it is low-key and chill out. The decor is simple and somewhat dated (70s era beach chic?), but I loved the simplicity and friendliness of this place. We hope to come back soon!

Room Tip: If you go to bed early, ask for a room further away from the Deep End bar and grill, since the music...

Thank you Thank you for spending your birthday at Tamarind Reef Resort! We loved having you. It is always so nice to have guests who enjoy our friendly atmosphere and who participate in a variety of activities. Sounds like you had a great celebration during Bingo night at Deep End Bar and Restaurant. Great too that you were able to play some tennis on our ocean view courts and snorkel Tamarind's fertile coral reef. Love seeing the puffer fish! Thank you too for sharing how welcome you felt at Tamarind and how much you enjoyed renting a car and seeing other areas of our amazing island. We love St Croix and look forward to seeing you and your partner soon.

My family and I flew into St. Croix and arrived at our booked hotel, only to find out that it was closed down. We were left with nowhere to stay. St. Croix's health inspector, Stevie Webster (my knight in shining armor), helped us connect with the Tamarind Reef Resort, where they made room for my family last minute. The staff was great, the rooms were comfortable and the views were absolutely beautiful. The resort was just what my family needed....comfortable beds, gorgious views, friendly staff and water sports thrown in at no additional charge. I enjoyed my coffee each morning on the patio while gazing out at the sea. The rooms were roomy and the grounds were well maintained. We enjoyed dinner and drinks at the restaraunt/bar overlooking the swimming pool and beachside. It was a great week. I would recommend it to anyone looking for simplicity, peace and tranquility. This was a vacation that my family will always remember.

We stayed at Tamarind Reef Resort for 4 days and 3 nights. The location was beautiful and the staff was great. The water sports at the hotel were great, we did Kayaking, Paddle Boarding and Snorkeling. The reef off the hotel has beautiful fish and apparently turtles (which we didn’t get to see this trip). There is also an island kayaking distance from the hotel that can only be reached by boat/kayak that is interesting to explore. The hotel is about a $12 taxi ride from the main city Christiansted. Many of the shops and restaurants are closed on Sunday so plan accordingly. Unfortunately we weren’t able to make it to the Bombay Club, but heard good things about it.

Every room has a beautiful ocean view with a balcony or patio. They provided Aveda bath products which were nice. The room was very spacious, but it was quite outdated with a couple of fixes needed to the fridge (rusty and bottom was loose) and screen door (unopenable). Although the rest of the resort was well maintained, the rooms could have been cleaner. The bathroom door got stuck every time it was closed and the bathroom window didn’t open either. The issues with the room were minor since we didn’t spend much time in there, but would have been nice to have working.

We stayed here for a week on spring break. The cost was half that of the two fancier resorts on the island. I visited both and found Tamarind to be less pretentious and a lot more fun. The rooms are big and clean. All are set up as a single big room and all have balconies. The only negative was the bathroom being small an uncomfortably right next to the entrance.
The ones on the second floor have the basic mini fridge and microwave. The first floor rooms gave kitchenettes. All are right on the water and the views are great.
There are two restaurants on the premises, a gym, marina and laundry. The food is good as are the drinks. The employees are very friendly although service can be slow, but this is typical if any place on this island.
There is a nice beach and a decent pool. The activities are fun and at times crowded. All in all a fun place. I would not hesitate to return.

We had a room on the 2nd floor in the 2nd building. All the rooms have an ocean view. Our view was partially obstructed by a big tree but that's ok. The rooms are large. Ours had a mini fridge but no microwave/kitchenette. The bed was large and comfortable. Direct TV and free wi-fi which worked well. Agree with what others have said that this is not a swimming beach. There are so many rocks close to the shore that its pretty difficult to wade in the water. The beach was never crowded when we went and I didn't see many people swimming/wading. The best part was all the gear they had available to use for hotel guests. There was snorkeling gear, kayaks, paddle boards. The snorkeling here was very good. We also kayaked to Green Cay and tried paddle boarding. The location of the resort seems pretty remote. We decided to get a rental car and it was no problem as it was a short drive to Christiansted. The food at deep end is pretty good, typical bar/beach food. The waitresses seemed busy and stressed out the couple of times we ate there. Overall I'd recommend the resort, although a bit pricey as others have mentioned.

Lets start with the magnificent views. AWSOME. Ocean water right in front was stunning. The DEEP END bar had exceptional service and very good food. STAFF was so friendly. It's like they knew me for years. Guests can borrow all the water gear for FREE!!! Never turned on the TV - so don't know about it. The hotel, marine, island, area very nice. The pool overlooking the beautiful water and leading up to the bar = great layout. Slept with slide door open to hear mother nature's water. Definitely go back!!

Room Tip: I don't know.
