“Wedding in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2009

We just arrived back home from The Buccaneer in St. Croix where we truly had a wedding in paradise. First the worst part of The Buccaneer is their website....because their site does them NO justice. We had a group of 22 people including 2 children and 1 teenager, and all of them continued to comment how wonderful the resort was. Majority of the group had traveled to other islands and tropical areas including myself (i.e. Bermuda, Hawaii, Bahamas, ect..) and none of them could beat the views, service, and activities of The Buc. We arrived and were taken back at the unbelievable views that words would simply understate. The front desk staff was very polite the whole week, which they will call you by name with a smile any time of day or night. Everyone makes you feel at home. Our suite was in the Luxury Ocean Front which was out of this world, spacious, and very tropical....which was cleaned everyday and every night our bed was turned down. Many of our guests stayed in the great house with ocean front views and I couldn't find one bad view. There were a few of our family members who stayed in the Doubloons which were gorgeous, however you are separated from the rest of the resort, and would want to shuttle back and forth if you're dressed for dinning in the terrace, due to the larges hills. Speaking quickly on the dinning, every morning we had a complementary breakfast which was not your usual free breakfast.......you name it, and they had it, if they didn't have it out buffet style, they were willing to make it. We would eat a full breakfast, and not be hungry till dinner. We ate dinner at the terrace 4 out of 6 nights and every meal was spectacular. The service was good, incredibly friendly. We also closed the bar at the terrace every night which is excellent overlooking the lights of Christiansted and live music every night. We had our rehearsal dinner at Tutto Bene and had a blast, and our reception was at the Brass Parrot on the resort which Dennis does a fantastic job on not only the food but being sure every "want and needs" are attended to. If you are getting married Carolyn does not miss a step, it was very daunting planning a wedding, never stepping foot on the location; however, Carolyn is a superhero in being sure everything is taking care of, and making sure you relax and enjoy your stay. I'm a very hands on type of person, but between the trio of Carolyn, Dennis and your choice of officiate it was honestly worry-free. Our choice for the officiate was Louise, who may be the only person to gather more praise then the resort itself. If you want to make your wedding memorable, DEMAND Louise. Her approach is heart felt and unrushed. She is sure that you take in the surroundings, and the "moments".

We read some of the 27 out of 150 or so bad reviews prior to booking, and after experiencing it for ourselves, these folks I believe simply had a string of bad luck situations or just can not be pleased. The resort has two pools, both of which are nothing to necessarily "write home about", however I don't know why you'd want to hang out at a pool when you have the Caribbean at your back door which was about 82 degrees. You are welcome to any of the snorkel supplies, rafts, or if you have children many of the beach toys that are all free with your stay. Other activities on the island were easily booked through the concierge service when we arrived. We spent approximately 10-15 minutes and we had a weeks worth of activities in place with the help of Emmy at the desk, who made all the calls and arranged taxi service when needed. My wife had a relaxing day at the spa, along with hair and makeup on our wedding day, and she had nothing but good things to say about the staff and services. I played golf at the resort and the conditions were not too good, but it was the offseason and the views from the course will outway any patchy conditions you come across.

The island of St. Croix itself is still devastated from hurricanes of the past (Hugo being the worst). Many of the locals live in poverty, and many of the buildings have never been repaired in and around Christiansted. While off the resort we were smart traveled like we were in any other big city.....traveled in groups, our group shopped during the day, didn't carry a lot of cash at one time, all of the things you've been told over and over any other time....and we never had an issue.

It was a vacation/wedding of a lifetime. Our stay at The Buccaneer resort was incredible, and we already look forward to returning.

My daughter got married at the Buccaneer 2 weeks ago. The hotel and location are absolutely beautiful, and the service is outstanding. The wedding coordinators, Carolyn and Corrine, took care of everything right down to producing towels to get wet sand off of the guests' feet after the (brief) rainshower just before the ceremony on the beach. As mom-of-bride, I got to enjoy everything without having to worry about making sure that it all came together. Destination weddings are the way to go, and the Buccaneer is the perfect place!

Last July my son and his sweet girlfriend became engaged and asked for help finding a destination for their wedding. We all searched and kept ending back at The Buccaneer on St Croix. Wedding coordinator/package, things to do, beaches, convenience, price and reviews all paid a major part in the couples final decision. The Carambola looked very pretty, but we had some concerns about some previous reviews. Anyway...the decision was made and I fretted over it until we got their. All year I was concerned that maybe I caused them to choose it and it would not be a good venue. A large group of 56 adults and 3 children booked...maybe 5 or so booked elsewhere on the island. Anyway, from the moment we got there until we sadly left, we had a fabulous time. The first day (we arrived at about 4pm)was the Welcome party with cocktails, food, steel pan music and mocko jumbie dancers....followed by a great meal at The Terrace. The second day, we explored the resort, had spa services, went on a sunset cruise in the evning with Caribbeaan Sea Adventures (see review), ate dinner at Savant, then ended the night at The Divi Carina Casino. The third day, many saw Buck Island followed by the Rehearsal Dinner which took place on The Buccaneer grounds at The Mermaid open air restaurant. Dennis G was the food and beverage guy that I dealt with and he was awesome (experienced and kind). Finally, on Friday was more spa services then the most beautiful wedding you've ever seen... on the beach, followed by a wonderful reception at The Brass Parrot. Saturday morning was a champagne breakfast, sunning and sightseeing...then dinner at Tutto Bene (delicious) Then on Sunday we hung around until 1 o'clock ..then off to the airport. The wedding coordinator (Carolyn) was fabulous. The night of the wedding, at the reception, my daughter-in-law told me that the whole thing exceeded her dreams! The staff at The Buccaneer go above and beyond.. The rooms were all wonderful, well appointed and very clean. Each morning was a huge buffet with all you can imagine at The Terrace and the Terrace was also great for music and cocktails. The Terrace provides gorgeous views and tradewinds all day long! The other nights were either wedding functions or great restaurants. The beaches at The Buccaneer are great and lined with palm trees. Though the larger of the two pools is prettier and near the beach, the young people from the wedding hung out at the smaller of the two pools for privacy at night. My mom, who can't walk the elevations at the resort was encouraged to call for a ride and they were there for pick-ups immediately. The spa services were excellent also. Delicious Vintage Cocktails .. along with a few of our favorites...The Grotto Iguana, Rum Runner and the Pain Killer made our week even better! If you are considering The Buccaneer for your wedding, I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. My email is lserpas@charter.net Trip Advisor was so helpful in choosing the PERFECT RESORT!

  • Liked — Location and Fabulous Customer Service!
  • Disliked — Elevations at resort are many, but the staff is always ready to give you a lift if needed!

Just got back from a wonderful five night stay at The Buc. We were upgraded from a mountainview room to an ocean front room.... what wonderful service. I cannot say enough about the staff there. Everyone goes out of their way to help, they wave when they see you, anything they can help with, they are right there. The rooms are clean and well serviced, the grounds are immaculate, the views are beautiful. Sunsets there are remarkable. You will be so happy if you stay there.

We are in our late 20s and although many there are a bit older or with kids, we never felt out of place. I found this to be true as well when we visited Carambola... so keep that in mind. Never would you spend all your time at the resort when visiting St. Croix, so do know that you can find great groups of people at many local restaurants and bars that will fit your age group.

The location to the town as well as the east end for some bars/restuarants was ideal. We were so happy to be able to drive less than five min and there you are! If we stayed at the Carambola, that would have been very diff, so kudos to those that warned me ahead of time!!!! MUCHO THANKS!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!! I would love to offer any insight if need be.

PS - Food on the island can be about 10% more than the mainland (that being said from an San Francisco Bay person...at the resort, can be a bit more. ) I would recommend picking up groceries and alcohol from a nearby store and keeping it in you room to save cash.

My husband and I stayed at The Buccaneer for 6 days, 5 nights May 19-24, 2009. We booked through Funjet and got a pretty good deal on the trip. Our room was just a basic mountainview room in the main house. The room had a king size bed, a sitting area, a mini fridge, and a large bathroom with a shower and double sinks. Housekeeping comes twice a day (for cleaning in the early afternoon and turndown service in the evening) and restocks towels and a new carafe of ice water each time. There were 3 ceiling fans in the room including one in the bathroom which I thought was a nice touch. The A/C blew out cold air directly under the vents, but our room never really got cold.

There are 3 beaches at the hotel and all are good. If you are staying in the main house you will have a decent walk to get to the beaches and 2 of the restaurants. However, if you can't/don't walk up & down the hills there is a shuttle that will pick you up and take you wherever you want to go within the hotel within 15 minutes. There is a 18 hole golf course with a 2 mile jogging trail so there is a lot to do on site. There is a hut on one of the beaches where you can get snorkeling equipment and a bunch of other stuff. There is a decent reef right off the beach where you can snorkel and see some really neat fish.

Food is semi-expensive at the hotel, but really good; our breakfast buffet was included complimentary. The things I would recommend doing are: sail to Buck Island! It is a must and a really cool experience. We went with Carl on the Tererro which sails out of a marina just down the road from The Buccanneer and I would recommend him. You also really should rent a car for at least part of the time you are there. We used Judi of Croix and worked with Christy and she was great! If you dive there are a bunch of dive sites and shops. We used N2 the Blue and they were okay. We dove the swirling reef of death and I saw my first eel. Go down to the boardwalk in Christansted. There is a shuttle from The Buccanneer that will take you for $7 roundtrip. I would also say go to Cruzan Rum.

Overall, great vacation, love the island, loved The Buccanneer. If you have any questions, please contact me and I will be happy to answer them!

WE just returned from our trip to this resort, for my son's Wedding. They were amazing! Initially the idea of planning a destination wedding was a bit overwhelming as everything is done via the internet and phone. Carolyn, the events planner, left no detail undone. She far exceded our expectations and would highly recommend this location to anyone considering a destination wedding! The locations is absolutely gorgeous, the flowers, music, food, cake and photographer were exceptional and the cost is far less than what we were quoted here in the States. Kudos to the entire staff and you will not be disappointed if you choose this resort for one of the most important days of your life!
