Had birthday dinner at Savant. The service was excellent, which can be a challenge at times on St. Croix. The menu had a good selection from which to choose, and then the server lists off about 8 specials. My ADD having self had some troubles. About 4 into the list she was losing me. This is not on the server. After a few more specials, I just started laughing and asked her why the hell did they have a menu? The food was good. I wasn't blown away by anything but most of what we ate had good flavor and was prepared correctly. Our only problems were with the grilled calamari and the pork chop. I enjoyed the smoky flavor in the calamari imparted by the grill but it was a bit rubbery. The dipping sauce, meh. The bacon wrapped pork chop was cooked correctly and was very tender and juicy, albeit a bit gamey. I think it was on it's last legs prior to cooking. The rest of the dish tasted good. Kinda my dumb fault. Here I am, on an island in the middle of the Caribbean and I order a pork chop? What is that? I just love the hog, I guess. Anyway, the grilled mahi with vanilla-lavender butter was delicious. I had the chocolate rum cake for dessert and it was great. I had rum cake everywhere we ate on the island and this was a very close second to my favorite. We sat on the outdoor patio and the ambiance was wonderful. I didn't look inside, but I would always want to sit outside at Savant. Overall we recommend Savant, just stick to the fresh fish. I mean, why not? They are catching the stuff there.
