One of the fun aspects of vacationing is venturing off the beaten path and trying non-mainstream restaurants. South Shore Cafe is really unique. Only five table a night can get served. The reservation times are spread out to enable the sole proprietor, maitre d', order taker, waiter and check, all one person name Dianne time to treat each table as special guests and to allow her to prepare each meal.. Her pastas are fantastic, You have to try her lasagna. Her deserts - we had a chocolate flan - are incredible. This is not the place if you want to eat and run - But if you want excellent food and a leisurely evening enjoying your food, try out here for sure.

The food here is spectacular--try the south shore salad, the manicotti, the desserts--wow. The restaurant has a unique and homey vibe--Diane, the owner and cook, will make you feel well-cared for. A fun place to come with friends or family for a delicious night out. You do need to call ahead for a reservation, as it is not open every night.

Just returned from St Croix, and other than the stunning beaches our favorite memory is of South Shore Cafe. This tiny restaurant is run completely from front to back by one woman. She does it all expertly! There are only about 5 tables and a bar, so reservations are a must. It is so worth the wait-(do not go if you are in a hurry because food this great takes time). Diane's soups, salads, homemade pastas, and desserts are to die for. The decor is eclectic and charming; the host/chef even more so. Her little dog, Dot, is the restaurant mascot as she sleeps in her basket amongst the patrons. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the coversation, and the local ambience. Diane made us feel like family. We are still amazed that one woman is able to do it all so successfully. Do yourself a favor and put this stop on your itinerary.

Dinner at South Shore is truly a treat - you are a guest in Diane's home. She cooks almost everything from scratch and the pastas and sauces are just to die for. And save room for homemade dessert! Always one of our favorite meals - a rare gem anywhere that is extra special on St. Croix.
