For those wishing to discover the beauty of the Turks and Caicos without having to blow the bank and fine with not being directly on the beach, look no further. Island Club was everything that we could ask for, and much more.
After having found a very very cheap direct flight to Providenciales, we (our group of 4, mid-20s women) looked into finding an affordable rental where we would be able to prepare meals to cut down on costs. Island Club looked great on the website, and although it initially indicated that there was no availability, we inquired by e-mail and were informed that they did have one deluxe townhouse left. We were thrilled.
Island Club was even better in person! Our townhouse (unit 19) was truly a HOME. I would echo earlier comments that the townhouses in the 19-24 block are the furthest from the street, so they would be the most quiet. The ground floor included a bathroom (complete with washer), a decent size kitchen (fully equipped with coffeemaker, blender) and a large living area (with flat screen TV - which we never used) and a dining room table. There was free wifi throughout the townhouse. A sliding door led to a lovely patio and to the Island Club's enclosed courtyard. Our patio was surrounded with lush tropical foliage, which made you forget that you had neighbours. The grounds were always impeccably maintained, as was the pool, which was extremely pleasant and quiet. The second floor had two decent sized bedrooms, with TONS of closet space and drawer space. There was also a second bathroom, and two lovely patios, one facing the interior courtyard, and the other facing the parking lot, but overlooking the gorgeous greenery behind the Island Club.
The staff at the office were great. We noticed that our neighbours had a BBQ and the office provided us with one the same day. Whenever we asked for fresh towels, they were rapidly provided. They arranged taxi service to bring us back to the airport on our last day, and were very accommodating with our complex division of the bill.
Grace Bay beach is phenomenal. Great for long walks, the water is crystal clear, and the water's colour is stunning. It was a 5-7 walk to the beach which we found totally manageable, and well worth it given the outrageous prices for beachfront hotels (for example, the Regent Grand shares the same stretch of Grace Bay). Island Club has chairs on the beach. Having walked west on the beach to Coral Gardens and east past Club Med, I really think that the Island Club's chair positioning is among the best on Grace Bay: unlike near Coral Gardens and Beaches, the beach is super wide here (the beach basically vanishes at high tide near Beaches!). Also, unlike many of the areas of the beach, it is quite quiet. The big resorts have soooo many chairs (rows of them even), areas of the beach roped off, and tons of water activities cluttering the beach. There is none of that here. It is beautiful, and much more quiet.
We did not rent a car for the entirety of our stay and found it to be totally manageable. The grocery store is a 10 minutes walk, and a number of restaurants are easily within walking distance. Island Club is located right at the entrance of the "strip", so you can easily get to car rentals, tour companies, souvenir shops, restaurants, ice cream, etc, in no time at all. The location was perfect!
(We did rent a car one day to explore the island, and that was well worth it and we would highly recommend it)
Overall, a fabulous stay. I would highly recommend Island Club and would gladly stay there again!
Townhouses 19-24 are furthest from the street.
