For the price you pay you would assume you'd get excellent service???
I'll list for those reading what I liked, and what I didn't. Keep in mind that I am a frequent traveler to 4-5 star resorts so i know what to expect for $600/night.
NOT LIKE
1. Breakfast (complimentary) was a joke. You have a choice of 4-5 main courses (waffle, 2 eggs, omelet, ect) and a meat. The food is prepared just like you'd get at a place one step above mcdonalds. Also, BEWARE OF DRINKING MORE THAN TWO CUPS OF COFFEE (the regular watery coffee in old pots). They CHARGE YOU $2.50 for each additional cup (and the cups are small)
2. The women working at the restaurant in the morning were more interested in watching the tv than saying "Good morning", "How are you?"....ect.. In fact RARELY do you get any type of greeting from the staff.
3. The beach staff. There was one woman who RARELY came to see if you wanted anything to drink. She was very nice, but NO SERVICE. The men on the beach didn't go out of their way to see if you needed anything. In fact, the hotel has a catamaran that you, a guest, can go on....
HOWEVER they don't offer it to you. You have to inquire about the catamaran and if you can go on it.
4. Restaurant is behind the hotel. No beach or ocean view. View of pool, which is beautiful, however I'd much prefer to have a view of the beach/ocean. This is important to me, but perhaps not to many of you.
5. Noise from large hotel going up to the left of the hotel (when standing on the beach, looking at the hotel, it's on the left). Only Sunday did they not work.
6. Beach chairs were uncomfortable - not padded at all but simply the ones you can find at Lowe's or Wal Mart.
LIKED
1. Welcome cool towel and rum drink. I was impressed with this, and thought it would set the tone for the entire stay. NOT!
2. Room was huge, full kitchen, nice amenities (Bulgari bath products), nice bed. Huge porch overlooking the beach/ocean. We were on the 1st floor and very few people ever walked by.
3. Coral reef within 5 min walking distance from hotel - excellent snorkeling.
4. Maid service was fine.
5. Beach was to die for - but this was the case down the entire beach.
SUMMARY
We did walk all the way down the beach, and drove as well to many many other hotels to see for ourselves how our place stacked up to the others. We did a few tours, walked around the grounds, checked prices. What we found is that $500-600 is average, not high priced at all. There were quite a few places with restaurants on the beach, versus behind the hotel. I can't comment on the service of any of the hotels in this price range, or the ones for $1000/night that were very nice since we didn't stay there.
