“Beautiful location, nice small touches, staff needs improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

I stayed for 4 nights and 5 days with 2 girlfriends. The location and general feel is great; right on the beach with nice amenities (snorkeling and diving, beautiful room views, high quality beach chairs). I love that it's small and fairly intimate... it was the perfect vibe for a girls trip. Our suite was spacious and tastefully decorated.

The staff was very friendly, but the service was slow and not great. The restaurant has really amazing food; much of it is organic and they source farm to table, which is impressive for the Caribbean. You definitely pay a premium for it though and thus, we expected the service to match. We ate breakfast every morning at the restaurant and one night for dinner and every single meal something was screwed up (wrong entree, something extra accidentally on our bill, we'd ask for something additional and they would forget to bring it). One friend ordered a $60 bottle of wine to the beach and they brought it still corked and said "uh, they couldn't find a corkscrew...," and she had to go up to our room to get one.

I would certainly consider going back, but not for at least a year so that the staff can find their stride and get better trained. I'd also definitely rent a car next time (taxi's are at least $20 each way) so that I could explore more of the island and find other food options.

Room Tip: Ask for the third floor for the best view.

We stayed at the Beach House Turks & Caicos in early January/February 2013. We got the site on an auction on Luxury Link for a 2 bedroom suite. The suite and grounds are beautiful-- quiet, spacious and comfortable but not 5 star. The view, however, to the ocean was amazing and the balcony was huge and had a comfortable lounge space. The pool and beach were quiet and comfortable and Roger really took care of us. For a relaxing vacation, Beach House has a lot going for it. It was not crowded at all while we were there, which was so nice. You should know, however, that the hotel is a 15-20 minute ($30) cab from the grocery store and many restaurants you may want to visit (besides their restaurant and Somewhere's down the beach), so without a car you are sort of stranded.
The cons of our trip were the prices as EVERYTHING at Beach House costs a LOT and the level of service. While everyone could not have been friendlier, we had an issue at every single meal we ate at the hotel restaurant. Several times the wrong meal came, orders were forgotten or confused and things definitely arrived on "island time." Given that the restaurant serves really fabulous, farm to table elegant French food, you expect that the service will be perfect. We ended up buying some groceries (though the kitchen has no stove or oven) and eating at Somewhere's down the beach, which is a still-expensive but not outrageous option. The thing is, on a beach vacation, you don't want your closest dining option to be so fancy. The Beach House would benefit from having a second, lower-priced and more casual option. Again, the staff could not have been nicer, but it is frustrating to spend an hour and a half at breakfast because of the mistakes and slow pace.

Room Tip: You want a second story room.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review of the Beach House - we are glad you liked the quiet boutique setting of our hotel on the beach. We are a 5-10 minute cab ride from the supermarket, as are most of the hotels that are located along Grace Bay Beach. We are pleased you found our staff to be friendly and we are addressing the service issues you came across. We hope you enjoyed your stay and thank you again for your feedback.

My husband and I recently returned from an eight night stay at this incredible resort. With the exception of a few minor glitches that mostly occurred when we first arrived that are not worth mentioning, the stay was flawless (Helpful hint: make sure you get instructions on how to operate the safe as it is unlike any we have seen anywhere in the world & can create some problems for you if you are not shown exactly how to use it). Our frazzled, uptight traveler states mellowed into blissful relaxation during our time here.

Our suite had an amazing view of the ocean & was spacious & beautifully decorated. Our bed was super comfy & we loved how quiet the resort was in general. We loved having a microwave & full sized fridge in our room. It was wonderful to find treats waiting for us at the end of most evenings. The water is safe to drink at the resort, but you can also buy liter bottles of water at the front desk for a very reasonable fee. The toiletries are super sized and smell amazing. It was great to be able to use the building's washer & dryer for no cost (soap & dryer sheets can be reasonably purchased at the nearby IGA-a short bike or car ride away-the hotel has free bikes available for use with baskets attached). The rooms were spotless & the housekeepers were very warm & friendly.

I can't say enough good things about the food at this place! The food truly is extraordinary and every meal we ate was fantastic. We loved every bite & ate most of our meals there. They are working very hard on their service, and the food is exceptional enough to make it easy to overlook any minor flaws. Meal prices were comparable to those at nearby resorts but the food here is consistently superior to theirs. It was a delight to eat at the restaurant. Lunch was amazing at the resort, too, but we also enjoyed strolling over to "somewhere" on the beach for fish tacos a few times.

The beach is quiet & gorgeous. We loved our pampering pod and the fact that we didn't have to get up early to secure a spot close to the water since there is not a bad spot on the beach. It was especially fun to take a spin on the resort's small catamaran with Roger, the beach attendant.

The gym is a bit small & lacks a treadmill, but this is not a problem as you have miles of beach & sidewalks close by for running or walking. We enjoy taking classes so we were thrilled to learn that you could take exercise & yoga classes 2 doors down at the Gansevoort for $60pp for the week. The instructors were really sweet there & we got great workouts that helped us stay in shape after eating all of those lovely meals.

While no vacation is perfect, the good far outweighed any minor problems on this one. We felt relaxed, pampered, & blessed to be able to stay in such a terrific place. Although we like to try different places & rarely return to the same place twice, this is one we will definitely return to in the future.

Room Tip: Get good directions on how to use the safe

Not only did we really like this hotel....we loved the location. There are empty lots on either side so you are off in your own space, with little beach traffic, and a wide swath of sand. But, close enough to the action or other restaurants to make them an easy walk along the beach.

I agree with another reviewer that indicated that the beach chairs looked like the best ones around - and there was never any rush...all had a great view and there were ones for every guest.

We stayed for one week in a second floor oceanfront suite and thought it was beautiful (pictures enclosed). The view was amazing - and our whole stay felt serene and private. We could hear no noise from any other suite....so soundproofing was really effective. The staff were friendly and helpful (and low-key...which I liked).

What we really liked? The view, location, the breakfast at the on site restaurant, and the really helpful attitude of everyone who worked there.

A few comments that are offered in the form of suggestions (and not complaints). We liked the signature products but I was surprised that lotion/hand cream was not in the room. The other products were lovely - but I would say that I don't think I have been to a hotel in recent memory where moisturizer of some type wasn't provided. As such, I only had a travel size for my purse. I realize I could have bought some at the front desk, but I would have wanted to have tried it first. Another observation was the turn-down service - I didnt realize there was one until half way through our stay (but really liked the evening surprises)...so perhaps, we were missed during the first half of our stay? Not at all a big deal for us, though.

Finally, and most importantly, we are already looking into when we might be able to go back.

Room Tip: Oceanfront is the way to go.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your delightful review of the Beach House - we really are very lucky to have one of the best locations on the island and so glad you enjoyed your vacation with us. We are pleased you also found our staff to be very helpful and our breakfasts to be delicious! Thank you for your comment about the in-room amenities. We have created a line of 9 different products and decided to select the shampoo, conditioner, hand wash and body wash to be provided in the suite, with the hand lotion, after-sun, temple balm, body scrub and another body wash available from the boutique. We certainly appreciate your suggestion for lotion to be in the suite and will look into it further.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming you back again to Beach House next time.

The front desk staff was very nice and friendly. We reserved an ocean front room but I had asked ahead of time to get a second floor room, it was my Birthday and our anniversary and we do not like first floor rooms! They told me they could not give me a room assignment until we showed up. They put us on the first floor, which we let go and unpacked. We had dinner that night after a long travel day at the restaurant. Everyone was very nice and the food was excellent. After our second day a large party(16/family) checked in and that was when service declined. The maid came at 6pm one day when we were trying to shower, inconsistent every night and skipped our last night. We were told they provided ice every night upon check in and we called one night twice, the other times we left a note to remind the staff! The phone had a constant message and when we asked were told the phones had some problems. My family called three times & asked the front desk to relay a message which I never received, luckily it wasn't life or death. The final straw was our last evening. It started by the maid never showing up and we were not in the room all day so that was not the issue. We had scheduled dinner for our anniversary at their restaurant. We were doing the tasting menu and explained to Felix (our waiter) that my husband has a nut allergy and if anything had nuts please do not include. We also got the wine pairings. The first two wines came way before the course. We were through with most of the wine before the courses showed up. Then he forgot the wine for the last course and ran to get it when he realized it. When he brought the dessert he explained it was chocolate cake with hazelnut foam and a pistachio macaron (made with almond paste) cookie, could it have any more nuts? My husband said I can't eat nuts and he just explained the dessert again as though we were crazy! They replaced it but after a while. I would have hated to spend my anniversary in the hospital! The staff is very nice and friendly but they are really off the mark for true service! They advertise they have kayaks but they had one single one, supposedly they are on order. I will say Roger is the best on the beach! He worked hard to keep everyone happy which was no easy feat that week! Again, I have to reinterate that everyone was really nice, the front end, even the house keepers when they showed were pleasant but they just miss the mark for true service! Wasn't in line with most "boutique" hotels service.

This was our third visit to the Beach House, and the first under the new ownership. While some of the changes made to the property was a large improvement, overall, our disappointment will keep us from returning for a fourth visit.
PROS: The suites are much lighter in color now, making the rooms seem larger and more inviting. The evening "treats" are very nice, although on two nights, we received a photo....of the sky, and the ocean.....??? Loungers on the beach were an improvement, and the food IS much, much better than it used to be.
CONS: EVERYTHING centers around the restaurant. The area around the pool has shrunk to a third of it's size, due to enlarging the restaurant. Housekeeping is practically non-exsistant now. Removing the kitchens in the suites is to try to force you into eating in the restaurant. The employees are MUCH colder than the older ones. We were promised a $20 breakfast credit, but wasn't NOT told that the discount would only be applied, depending on how much you spent for breakfast. No room numbers, the rooms have names, and the names are hand written on the keys with a sharpie...spend a little time in the sun, with sunscreen, and see what happens to the writing on the card. Never ONCE during our stay, did anyone involved in the rooms aspect of the hotel contact us about our complaints...always had to deal with JS, the food and beverage director.
I could go on and on.....but you get the idea.....We are sorry the property has turned into a restaurant. We really enjoyed going there.....but there are many other choices in Turks and Caicos....and I think it's time to explore them.

Room Tip: Order the poolside rooms, they "claim" to upgrade you to oceanfront for no additional char...

When planing the remodeling we felt that next to the rooms (thank you for the compliments on the room upgrades) the restaurant needed a large improvement. Previously it was more of a breakfast and lunch place with no choice on the menu. It has now advanced to be a favorite for many living in or coming to Turks and Caicos and we are pleased that the quality food is being recognized.

Thank you for your feedback in terms of feeling that the restaurant encroached on your feeling of privacy at the hotel. We will review this and see what we can do to separate the two more.

The concept of a breakfast credit has been selected in order to allow our guests to choose from the great array of breakfast dishes including the more specialized items like our Crab Benedict. The credit is applied to whatever you eat for breakfast and is a very flexible concept allowing guests to order what they like most as opposed to the usual "continental breakfast menu included" approach.

Thanks again for your feedback.

We spent several days at The Beach House this past Christmas and could have stayed forever! Our room was lovely, the bed ultra comfy, everything spotless and the restaurant was so relaxing with a nice mix of music playing in the background. Everything in TCI is pricey but this was so special! We came back a few times to eat after we went on to Middle Caicos and then returned to Provo to fly home. If you can, schedule a massage. We had ours on our balcony. There's nothing like listening to the ocean while having a massage. I melted into a puddle and had just enough energy to have an outstanding dinner in the Beach House restaurant. Expensive but amazing! We've already started to think about how and when we can come back - or maybe just move in! :-)
