I too was a little apprehensive about some of the reviews I had read about Beaches Turks and Caicos before going. But let me say - naysayers GET A LIFE!
My husband and I just returned from Beaches Turks and Caicos to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful time. We arrived right before the Labor Day holiday when the resort was still very crowded, but there was a noticeable drop-off in the number of guests by Labor Day. I guess the kids were finally off to school. Most of the kids that remained were either not school-age or just beginning school. The workers stated that Labor Day starts their slow season until things pick up again in November. It was just my husband and I as our kids are grown, but the kids on the property did not bother us because it is so spread out and there is so much for them to do.
We were Signature Guests (repeat Beaches or Sandals customers) so I called ahead for a free upgrade and it was granted. We were in the Salt Cay villas with a view of Arizona's and the beach. We had a Govenor's one bedroom suite which was more than enough room for the two of us. We had a king bedroom with a tv, separate living room with a pullout trundle bed, table and chairs and another tv, mini bar with microwave, stocked fridge and coffeemaker. The snacks, including microwave popcorn, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were replenished daily even though we got most of our alchoholic drinks at the bars. We had a huge wrap around covered balcony and there were three sliding glass doors in the unit which led to the balcony. There was furniture on the balcony in each section. Our room was also exceptionally clean. The maids somehow must have staked us out when we left the room and came in and cleaned even when we weren't gone very long. There was also turn-down service if you wanted it. Wonderful!
I was able to watch many comings and goings of guests from the balcony including those that took way too many towels at the pool, those that put towels on chairs early in the morning to reserve chairs and then wouldn't come back for hours or never came back and those that left their towels on chairs even though they knew they were finished for the day. Others coming along wouldn't know if someone was using the chairs or not.
I am happy to say that most guests were very nice to the staff, even though we encountered a couple of rude people. The staff was outstanding! They were very professional, well-groomed and went out of their way to please no matter what their job title. They were always friendly. Now for those who say the staff was rude and unfriendly, it was probably because they were being rude themselves. If you pass them and put your head down or look the other way, of course they are not going to speak to you. But if you made eye contact, they were always very friendly.
Don't spend the money on the shopping trip, just get a cab and have them take you to one of the shopping areas for souvenirs. The shopping areas are very small and not plentiful. This island is very small and only has 12,000 people in Provendenciales. This is not the states, so don't think you are going to find big malls and such. Everything, and I mean everything is imported to the island, so things are very expensive. However, the souvenirs we found in town were infinitely less expensive than on Beaches property.
We found the food to be good everywhere we ate and my husband didn't feel like putting on a collared shirt and pants so we didn't eat at Sapodillas or Kimonas. I heard Sapodillas was very good though. The pizzeria has the best pizza! We really enjoyed the beach party Friday night. They closed all of the restaurants except for Bobby D's so everyone went to the beach for food. They had a great variety and it was good. There was also entertainment and fireworks.
Although all the staff we encountered were very good, these people were exceptional: our concierge Enoch - I can't say enough about him, Chris at Schooners, Edwin the bartender at Arizona's swim-up bar, Roger at Arizona's, Fredericka the photographer and John Lim, VP of Operations.
We will definitely return to this resort. We will probably wait until the Italian village is open even though I'm sure the prices will be higher. This trip was well worth every penny. Once on the resort property I did not pull my wallet out until leaving. It was the best resort we have ever stayed at for one of the best vacations we have ever had.
