“great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We had a beachfront condo room. It was clean and had a full kitchen, and we especially liked the very large lanai and view of the bay. The attached restaurant, Mango Reef, is very good, but there is NO other source of food - no gift shop, no snacks, no vending of any kind. Water is perfectly safe to drink, maybe metallic tasting. For groceries you can take the shuttle (daily at $11/person) and we wished we had done that the first day as the restaurant is expensive. We had a lot of error messages when we tried to book excursions frpm home - never got a confirmation of any kind - but had no problem when we got there. Only non-motorized water sports are available directly on the beach, which we liked since it protects the reef and it's very peaceful.
There was a duo performing during one night, but it was "easy listening" type of music. There was no other evening entertainment on site. IWe booked scuba and snorkel excursions. If we returned we get away from th resort more and sample other parts of the island.

Thank you for your recent visit to the Alexandra Resort. We appreciate receiving your positive review. Please accept our apologies about the issue you encountered trying to arrange excursions with our concierge prior to arrival. We are addressing the IT issue and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Yes, food costs on the island can be expensive, so we are pleased that you took advantage of using the grocery store shuttle. On a future visit, please also consider our value priced B&B menu, an optional add on available with Mango Reef.

My husband and I just returned from an amazing week at the Alexandra. We agree with all of the other reviews about the beautiful beach, turquoise water, friendly staff, clean rooms, and comfortable beds. We stayed in room 4402 studio. We had a queen size bed which worked fine for us, but there are studios available with king size beds upon request. We never had a problem finding chairs on the beach and we enjoyed using the bikes, kayaks, paddle board, and snorkeling gear available to guests. The Alexandra is a short walk or bike ride to shops and restaurants or cabs are available too. We really liked eating dinner on the beach at Mango Reef at the resort. The Mango Reef is expensive but it seems most places are pretty expensive for dinner. We really liked Bay Bistro and Le Bichon du Village for dinner as well. We hope to return to Turks and Caicos and take our kids along next time. We will definitely stay at the Alexandra again. We looked at several other resorts and the Alexandra was our favorite. There are many other nice hotels, but they are much more expensive and we liked the laid back, friendly feel of the Alexandra. Exceptional resort!!!

Thank you for your positive review of your recent stay at the Alexandra Resort. Yes, dining can be expensive on the island, as it is at most other Caribbean destinations. On your next visit, please consider the optional value-priced B&B menu available at Mango Reef. Our concierge would also be happy to help you enjoy great food at some other local eateries that offer affordable dining choices. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Spring break vacation at the Alexandra Resort was everything I expected. Most reviews talked about what a great place this is and it is all true. The beach is great with plenty of chairs at any time of the day. The pool was great as well, we spent very little time there as we spent more of our time at the beach but I though it was a good place to relax. People have different opinion about the bar service. It did not bother me at all that I had to go to the bar to get my drinks or the fact that there was no music playing.
The food at the Mango Reef was great, the Dominican Paella was very good.
For those traveling for the first time, pick up the magazines they have in the front desk. There is good info on the Island and places to eat outside the hotel. Food in the Island is expensive but there are several grocery stores you can walk, bike or take a taxi to get all the supplies you may need for breakfast and lunch. Make reservation at any restaurant you may want to have dinner, most restaurants will not have table available for walk in.
The airport is small, very small so give yourself enough time to get through security as there is only one scanner.

All in all, I had a great week with my two kids and wife at the Alexandra.

Thank you for your positive review about the Alexandra Resort. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit, and we appreciated the great travel tips you shared with other readers. Thanks also for pointing out that the music was not playing at the bar. Normally there is music, so we will address that matter immediately with Mango Reef.

We (2 married couples and 1 six year old daughter) just returned from a 6 night stay at the Alexandra and we had a wonderful time. We stayed in a 2BR oceanview suite and truly enjoyed having coffee and breakfast every morning on the huge deck/porch that came with this unit. The grounds are well maintained and the property is located nicely on Grace Bay where the beach appears to be just a bit wider than the neighboring properties (i.e.Beaches). Paddle boats, kayaks and one standup paddleboard are available for your use at no charge (they need more paddleboards - it was sometimes hard to get a turn on the one they had). The staff is good - they don't wait on you hand & foot or anything but they are helpful and friendly. Darren did a great job explaining the property layout as he helped us to our room with the bags; another standout employee is Fontilia - she was always smiling and did a wonderful job as the housekeeper. We ate at Mango Reef for dinner twice and lunch once - the food and service was very good each time and the view is incredible. This restaurant could probably raise it's food/bar revenue substantially if they just assigned a waiter to the pool and/or beach area; several times we discussed among ourselves that we would have ordered something if anyone had been around to take the order. Overall this property is excellent for the price and I would not hesitate to return here again.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Alexandra Resort. While the resort does not operate Mango Reef, we do share feedback from our guests with them when it relates to food and beverage service. Mango Reef does provide F&B service at the beach, so we will inquire why the services were not available during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

My wife and I travelled to this resort last year and had an excellent time, the staff are friendly and the restaurant was excellent good food. The beach is lovely, white sand and not rough to get into. Our stay was so good we decided to by a timeshare, can't wait to return later this month.

Loved this resort. Friendly staff, clean rooms and great food at the Mango Reef restaurant. After checking in at the front desk we were offered a cool refreshing cup of Rum Punch and a rolled washcloth to reboot after a long day of travel. A really nice guy name Darren helped us to our room and made sure we were comfortable and happy with our accommodations. We rented a two bedroom ocean view. PERFECT and BEAUTIFUL VIEW! This resort is in a great location, amazing beach and family friendly pool.
My only complaint- pool bar with swim up barstools. Completely vacant. No staff/no service at all. I think the resort is missing a huge opportunity to add a little extra flair by the pool. There is even a nice stereo system by the swim up bar that was completely un utilized. Felt a little bit like a ghost town. Would have given this resort a perfect score if the pool swim up bar was in service.

We are pleased to read you had a great vacation at the Alexandra Resort and we will share your kind compliments with our team. The resort does not Mango Reef Restaurant, but since their service levels impact the experiences of our guests, we will share your feedback and encourage them to improve the swim up pool bar experience, as well as the ambiance at their venue. Thank you very much for your patronage and we hope you will stay with us again in the future.

My boyfriend booked us a trip to TCI for spring break... As two 27 year olds just looking to get away from cold Wisconsin we got exactly what we wanted and more! He wouldn't tell me which resort we were staying at because he knew I would spend my time reading reviews on here, so I really had no idea what to expect! We had a studio room which was plenty with an amazing view of the pool and beach and a perfect view of the Sunset from our bed!
Beach was amazing. We stayed for 9 days and the first 6 were calm and hot! 90's on a couple of days! Wind picked up the last few days but the pool area here is well protected from the wind. We would head to the pool/beach around 10 and never had an issue finding a seat at the beach or pool. On windy days they will pull extra chairs out around the pool which was nice because the pool chairs full up quickly. We walked to Bight Reef and tried to snorkel one days but it was quite windy so we didn't spend much time. But even with the rough surf there was still plenty of wild life an amazing coral to see!
Taxis are expensive so be prepared but there are some nice places that require a taxi ride. We relied a lot on the concierge to direct us around but found that we missed a lot of the island the first half of the week because we just went to restaurants within walking distance. Definitely rent a bike from the front desk and ride to downtown Grace Bay. Cute shops, more food/bars, and a nice little 5 min bike ride!
We ate a lot of different and they are quite expensive but definitely worth it to travel off the resort.
We ate at Mango Reef, Hemingway, Bay Bistro, da Conch Shack, Magnolia's, Yoshi's Sushi, and Opus... All great choices and only a few of the options. My favorite was actually Yoshi's because the sushi was great but probably worst service. Couldn't get into Coco Bistro, booked out about a month and a few night Mango Reef was booked too while we were there but if you wait til later to eat dinner you will be fine to get in most places. Not a ton of night life but we did talk to a few cab drivers about it and the Ganesvroot has a DJ and dancing on Fridays, Dannybouys has bands most nights, an there's an island Fish Fry for locals and tourists every Thursday. Talk to your cab drivers... They will give you the best info!
We booked a Snuba trip with Jodi as we have both been snorkeling several times and this trip is highly recommended and sadly our trip was cancelled because it was too windy and wavy. Try to book in advance of your trip because we booked when we got to the island and we had I book it for our last day and no room to reschedule. I heard nothing but good things about Caicos Dream Tours and it left right from our resort so I would definitely recommend that trip for anyone even without going! They went out on the windy days too so less of a chance of a cancel!
This is getting long so overall... Even tho we didn't do much besides sit on the amazing beach and play in the ocean at The Alexandra, it was more than enough fun and relaxation for us!I can't wait to go back to TCI!
