“The Perfect Provo Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2011

We went to Provo at the beginning of April specifically to relax in the island atmosphere—to us that means a white beach, clear blue water, and minimal noise, crowds, or hype. The Villa Renaissance is accurately reflected in their on-line photos and was exactly what we were looking for. As noted by other reviewers, the units here are privately owned and therefore have some individual character. Most units are managed by a company whose staff is on site; however, I believe some units use a separate management company. Ours was managed by the on-site staff and everything went perfectly. We had a lovely two BR unit on the ground floor overlooking the beach (unit 103)—and the beach and water here are gorgeous. We had a lovely patio on which to enjoy morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Our unit was tastefully decorated and well equipped. The kitchen had all the usual amenities, plus a washer and dryer. Excellent housekeeping service was twice a day. We usually walked down the beach to have breakfast (Hemmingway’s is a great choice) and sometimes prepared our own lunch. (There is a good grocery store an easy walk from VR.) You can also order lunch from Vix’s (nearby restaurant that also provides room service to VR) at the desk or bar of VR and they will bring it to you on the beach. Plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas were always set up on the beach, and beach towels were readily available for pick up near the beach boardwalk. The pool is lovely and never very crowded. There is always someone available at the poolside bar to fix you a rum punch or whatever strikes your fancy. The grounds at VR are lovingly attended to and the setting is the most beautiful around.

The staff at VR is terrific. We didn’t want to be bothered with a car, but the staff always got us a cab within 10 minutes. It is a good idea to get the card of a cab driver you like, however, because that way you can easily have your restaurant call him/her for you for your return trip to VR. (On your day of departure be sure to ask the VR desk to schedule your cab in advance, especially if you are flying out on Sat. or Sun. when traffic to the airport is heavy. Cab drivers are VERY responsive to reservations made by VR staff.) Before we went to Provo, I read many, many restaurant recommendations. My advice is to ask the VR staff to select restaurants and make the reservations for you in advance of your visit. Alternatively, you can email them a list and ask them to reserve your selections. They made very good choices for us and confirmed all our reservations for six nights. Given that the chef may change or reputations may alter, the staff has the inside knowledge to send you to places you will enjoy. The best food we had was at Bagatelle, but we ate in other places, like Magnolia, where the food was good but the view made the meal terrific, and it’s the view that really soothes your soul. The staff members were unfailingly friendly, patient, attentive and accommodating. They know all the snorkel and dive outfits and also what might be interesting on adjacent islands. They truly want to ensure that you enjoy your holiday. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained and so much more charming than the giant resorts down the beach. What more could you ask for? We will definitely be going back!

I used trip advisor so much before my vacation that I swore that I would post a review upon my return. My family and I had a lovely vacation at Villa Renaissance and on the wonderful island of Turks and Caicos. We rented a great island cruiser from Rent a Buggy and they could not be nicer to follow us with all our luggage as there was no room for the bags. We were met by the lovely Mel and shown our Penthouse room that we would call home for the week. Beautful views, wonderful accomidations and lovely pool. We ate most breakfasts in our villa since there was a full kitchen and a few trips to the Graceway Gourmet kept the refrigerator full. However, we did eat a few lunch out, Somewhere Cafe, Atlantic Cafe at West Bay Club and Las Brisas in Chalk Sound (loved it!). We ate many meals out, Bay Bistro (my favorite) Bagatelle, Hemingways, Anaconoa and the full moon party put on by Kissing Fish Caterers (awesome event.) We have traveled to many islands in the Caribbean but this one takes the cake. The blue waters are amazing, the laid back atmosphere and the friendy people make the difference. we have already decided that we will be back in November and are starting to count the days already. If anyone has any questions and wants to pm me I will get back with honest feedback right away. Don't miss out!

Room Tip: in my opinion - the penthouses have the best view

We just spent a glorious week at Villa Renaissance in Grace Bay for our babymoon! We had a fantastic stay at VR! We rented a 1 bedroom oceanfront groundfloor unit (Unit 102) through VRBO -- Nicola Jordan and her wonderful staff (especially Mel and Julie Ann) at Allied Management. They are top notch! We were there from April 8-15. This is a what I would consider a self-service resort -- there is staff around that set up beach chairs/umbrellas/towel service in the mornings but it's definitely not like Four Seasons where they cater to your every need or desire. This suited us just fine. We never had any trouble getting loungers/beach umbrella each day. The pool was never crowded. This resort only has ~30 villas so it never felt crowded (as opposed to Beaches about a 20 minute walk down the beach, which was an absolute zoo...). The location is fantastic, within walking distance to a couple of shopping villages/restaurant areas called The Regent Village and Saltmills Plaza. Restaurants within walking distance include Thai Orchid, The Vix, Danny Buoy's, Saltmill's Cafe and Diner, Yoshi's Sushi, Pizza Pizza and Bella Luna. The smaller Graceway supermarket is about a 10-15 minute walk from VR.

This was our 3rd trip to the Caribbean (we've previously been to St. John USVI - Westin Villas and Bahamas, Paradise Island, Atlantis - Reef). We loved all 3 trips for different reasons. The accommodations at VR were top notch! We had an amazing ~1100 sf oceanfront condo with amazing views, upscaled amenities, and excellent service (Allied Management provides daily maid service and helped us with dinner reservations, activity suggestions, etc.). The water around Turks and Caicos is an amazing hue of blue! It's true you can't appreciate it until you've seen it up close. This was definitely the most expensive of the islands we've visited but nevertheless we had a fantastic experience! Turks was perfect for us as our main goal was to relax before the arrival of our 1st baby this summer.

I would absolutely stay at VR again and hope to again in the near future!

My husband and I just returned from a 6 day stay at the Villa Renaissance. We saw the weather in New Jersey was going to cold and raining and jumped on the short, direct flight from Newark and got to the beach by 2pm. We had an oceanfront 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit with full kitchen and laundry. The views were beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful , from arranging dinner reservations and calling cabs. Gorgeous, at the front desk, was very pleasant to deal any queries we had. We enjoyed all the restaurants she suggested. The grounds and complex were first class. Endless beach towels were always available. The beach was rated top ten in the world and I would agree. After walking the 12 mile beach at Grace Bay, their spot was the best. An extra bonus was the short walk to the gourmet market, restaurants right outside the hotel complex. Can't wait to go back.

We chose the Villa Renaissance after reviewing Trip Advisor. First, the hotel was beautiful as was the beach, but I wouldn't consider any of these island residences hotels. They are more self-service condos. The hotel does not have room service, but the front desk is pretty helpful. After i reserved a one bedroom online, the concierge called meto say our room was not available. We could stay in an ocean view for two nights, but would have to move our last night to a pool room. When we arrived we were told that we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom ocean view. The room had a full kitchen, dining, living, 2 bedrooms, and 2 and a half baths. The view was stunning.

Our first night we slept fine, but the second night my boyfriend was eaten alive by some type of very tiny flying insects. They seem to leave me alone (i.e. - I slept through the night. And he was up all night). The next day I had five red welts on my arms and legs and he had more than 15. That night we chose to sleep in the other bedroom. Unfortunately, he was eaten up again! We got no sleep and he woke up with one eye swollen shut!!!

I have no idea what these knats were, but our three day relaxing vacation was exhausting instead. To top it off we had a super early flight and didn't get a chance to return our snorkel gear at Dive Provo. I asked the concierge to return it for us and they assured us they would. They didn't and we were charged three hundred dollars the next month. I had to call and talk to three different people. They went up to room and found the gear right away. Dive Provo even tried to get it from them and they said they didn't know anything about it. They finally returned the gear, but I still had to pay 150 for the extra month it sat in a closet.

We probably won't be back to Turks Caicos. I'd prefer a real resort with room service, amenities, and no bugs!

Suite 104 - OUT OF THIS WORLD! Check out VRBO for it. Nicola and Mel who manage the property are outstanding to work with. We rented the two bedroom as a one bedroom for a lesser rate.

The unit is modern and up to date. It is about 30 feet from the beach. Wake each morning to walk to the living room to look straight on to Grace Bay Beach. The unit has full sliding doors that open it completely to the deck which has excellent furniture to relax on. A full automatic screen comes down to keep the bugs out. It was great to have a nice stereo to turn on at night when we sat on the porch and enjoyed some wine listening to the tide splash on the beach.

The staff on the resort is super friendly and go out of there way to make you feel at home.

The tennis court is fantastic.

The spa is beautiful.

The pool is paradise. Towels are always available and ready for the pool or beach.

This resort sits on the high end portion of the beach. The beach and water on this part of Grace Bay Beach are the most pristine. Yes, it is great to snorkel, but if you want to be able to swim or wade in the water, this is the part of the beach you want. You can walk 15 minutes down the beach to snorkel or snuba or scuba. This portion of the beach had MUCH less foot traffic and allowed you to sit in their beautiful beach chairs and simply relax. If you want a party or constant commotion, go to Beaches or Club Med. This is for those of us who want to relax and do it at the most beautiful beach and resort on the island.

There is a new grocery store about a 10 minute each way walk. This is perfect for the high end kitchen in the unit. There is a great wine shop on the way to the grocery store and the grocery store has an excellent selection of wine as well.

Room Tip: Look up the site on VRBO

First of all, Grace Bay Beach is the best beach in the world - CRYSTAL CLEAR warm water and sugary sand - no pebbles, seaweed. Never a problem getting a chair / umbrella on the beach. VR is a very uncrowded resort - service is great, staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was spectacular - penthouse suite on 4th floor. Huge kitchen and living areas and spectacular views of the ocean. VIX restaurant next door great for breakfast and lunch. Several restaurants within walking distance for dinner. Swimming pool is bath water warm (which I love) and very uncrowded - usually you have it to yourself. Pool bar is a nice touch.

One drawback - elevator was out of service our entire stay.
