“Vista Azul in March”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

The room was nicely appointed and the views were great (room 5204). We had a great private balcony and generously sized room with a washer/dryer and kitchen. For the price of other resorts on the island, this is a great deal. However, I would not stay here again. You are definitely off the beaten path, so I suggest having a rental car. Turtle Cove is not very exciting, so you'll definitely want to explore other areas of the island. We didn't mind walking 2.5 miles to dinner or taking a taxi, but it would have been nicer to be closer to Grace Bay where more restaurants are. The hotel/condo is new so things are still in good condition, but I wasn't impressed with the staff. This isn't a full-service resort and we found the staff were distant or irritable, or acted like we were putting them out (like when we needed to arrange for a taxi to leave to go back to the airport).

It's called La Vista Azul for good reason. This place has a view, and I suspect it has one of the best views around. It includes the pool below as well as the island and then the sea. Pay a little extra for the studio with the ocean view. It's totally worth it. It's in Turtle Cove, west of the resort strip and we loved that aspect of it. You're in walking distance to the one of the best snorkeling sites on the island -- Smith Reef. Also, you can walk to a couple of great restaurants. We loved Shark Bite for lunch; Magnolia for dinner. (By the way, for the nicer restaurants, you need to make reservations; they book up FAST during high season!). Plus the Green Bean is great for coffee/breakfast/lunch. The F Spot is good for evening cocktails and tapas. Everyone recommends that you get a rental car, but we just used taxis, which was cheaper per day for us than renting a car. We recommend that you do not use the snorkel gear from the hotel but pay Scooter Bobs (also in walking distance) for a better quality set that fits your face and feet. As for La Vista Azul, the staff is wonderful, especially Bianca. They answered all of our questions and really took care of us. The room itself is large with a kitchen and comfy bed, plus the outdoor balcony/view is wonderful for morning coffee. There are two small convenience stores right on the property or you can make the trek out to the IGA and pick up fruit or other items. All in all, I think what you get for the price (we had a Jet Blue vacation package) is excellent.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the studio with the ocean view!

I cannot over emphasize the positive nature of my recent visit here. The room was quiet, large, and clean. Housekeeping was the best I've ever seen in the Carribean, and maybe anywhere. Housekeeping did my laundry and folded my clothes! It was like living with my mother, but without all the interference and disapproving looks. I had a parking spot in the garage (no extra charge), and easy access to the pool and sun deck. The place is spotless and the staff excellent. If you are a tourist and need an all-inclusive resort, stay somewhere else. If you like to travel, and want to explore, this hotel is ideal.

Great experience for family with toddler...rental car is a must but not necessariy for whole trip. Restaurants on island are not good value but well stocked kitchen and ICA supermarket nearby is good option for family meals and experience.

Room Tip: Ocean view isn't much better than courtyard...

When comparing the resort to the other absolutely ridiculously priced places along Grace Bay ($600-$1200 a night!), it's really good value for your money. As others have said, the resort is new, has lovely views, and we would also recommend that you rent a car in order to get over to Grace Bay which is where the action is. That said, here are some more particular pros and cons from our perspective:

Pros: Generally quiet (feels a bit like a ghost-town which can be a good, or bad thing, depending on your preferences), large roof-top/pool area with expansive views of the ocean, newly built, travertine/tile floors, sufficient air conditioning, comfortable bed and pillows, large patios, free wi-fi, cell phone provided for local calls, free calls to Canada and US at the front desk, helpful desk staff.

Cons: Very loud housekeeping staff, front doors that SLAM! every time they are used, our microwave was broken (and not fixed after we reported it), our safe was broken, terrible ironing boards, no dressers to put your clothing in, nowhere to put your suitcase besides the floor in the closet, no shelves in the shower (and ladies, good luck shaving your legs in this shower as there is no where to put your foot!), very little bathroom counter space, cheap furniture, and the pool is freezing! Overall, there are a number of little things that could be done easily to improve the convenience of the rooms such as dressers (or at the least a suitcase stand), shelving for the shower/bathroom, and of course heating the pool couldn't hurt either!

On TCI: Overall, this island has beautiful beaches and water, but that is about it and we wish we'd known that before we booked. There isn't much to do besides water sports and while you can't beat the color, visibility, and temperature of the water, we are unsure as to why this island is so exorbitantly priced. The island itself is quite geographically undesireable (flat, scrappy bushes cover the land), there are hungry, thirsty stray dogs running all over the place which is heartbreaking, and there is obviously great disparity between the rich and the poor as with many other Caribbean islands.

Food: All of the restaurants that we ate at were quite good, portions are generous and in many cases can be shared if you are looking to save money. The food is safe to eat anywhere you go and ingredients are fresh. Apparently the tap water is also safe to drink however it tastes awful and smells of sulphur so we quickly learned to drink only bottled water. The food available at the grocery store is extremely expensive so be prepared.

The condos are new with large balconies and a great views. No food service or bar on site; but there are 3 great restaurants within a block or so. They are classic beach restaurants just off the turtle cove marina with great food. The beach, like the LVA condo's are away from the maddening crowds. They are pristine and you can easily snorkel out to the coral within 75 feet off shore. We loved this place and made another 2 week reservation for next year.
If you want to para sail, tub rides, scuba, kayak and upscale restaurants with hundreds of families and screaming kids; it is all but 5 min. by car or a 20 minute walk down the beach to Grace Bay.

This condo-style resort is situated in Turtle Cove. The closest beach is about a 5-10 minute walk, and there are a few restaurants in walking distance. However, if you plan to explore more of the north shore of Providenciales, you'll certainly need a car.

The room we had was perfectly OK. A double bed plus pull-out sofabed for the kids was all we needed. The kitchen area was small but well equipped and clean, as was the small-ish bathroom. Nice spacious terrace overlooking the ocean. Daily maid service kept the place clean and tidy.

The reception staff was helpful and provided a cellphone, free beach towels, snorkelling equipment and deck chairs.

Compared to many resorts in the Turks & Caicos, this is not a high-end place, but the prices reflect that and it's very good value overall.
