This is the best resort I've been to in the Carribean, and I been to a lot. I have never written a review before, but after reading some on here about Parrot Cay, I felt I had to tell everyone it's great! I went with my boyfriend for 5 nights, and we are world travellers who normally stay at Four Seasons and the Ritz. This resort was great because it was a very high standard, but also unique. The food was awesome and the service great due to the hiring of mostly Asian staff, Unlike any of the other Carribean islands where you get quite an attitude. The other travellers there, were also really nice interesting people. I would definetly go back. My boyfriend and I are both around 30 and I would say that the resort caters to couples mostly in their late 20's to 40 's. I haven't relaxed so much in ages. I loved it.

We went to Parrot Cay expecting a paradise and were let down immediately, from being met at the airport by a member of staff who couldn't care less to the frankly dodgy boat out to the resort. The rooms were OK, but nothing special and a fair way from the beach. The service was awful - a 2 hour wait for a cup of tea involving about 4 phone calls, room service was slow and usually wrong when it arrived (when I mentioned this - I was told I had ordered wrong!), the staff were indifferent - no friendly smiles or hellos here.

The overpriced snorkelling trip was really awful, the captain stopped the boat - we were left to assume we were at the place to snorkel. We asked a couple of quesions about the current and were replied with a random wave to where we should get in ( thank god the trip was included in our package - we decided not to do any more trips!).

There are no diving facilities on the island - this involves getting the hotel boat to the main island - beware - should you miss the boat back - at around 2pm - you either wait till the next one at 7pm or charter a boat (at about $150). We phoned the hotel and were told they couldn't come and get us (despite it being a 20mins journey).

I wouldn't class this as a luxury resort (except in terms of price) - a resort with class would treat its guest well (even if they aren't celebrities!). They have a lot to learn from Four Seasons!!

My husband and I loved Parrot Cay for its simplicity and casual atmosphere. We enjoyed 5 star dining in linen and shorts. Every meal was fantastic. The laid back attitude was exactly what we needed to relax. I think its important to note that the average guest was about 28-40ish, mostly around 30. Several honeymooners and most folks were from the UK, Canada or australia. It depends what youre looking for, but if youre young, dont want to put on frocks for dinner and enjoy meeting different people this is the place for you. I am very surprised to hear the poor reviews; our food was very good, and we're foodies.
The spa is the best spa I have ever been to. The beach and pool are the most relaxing I've experienced. Take the private island trip. They dump you off at a secluded island with food and drink and an umbrella for a day. Strip down as soon as they leave. The mosquitos do suck, but as long as you use the spray at night youre fine. They should warn you right away I suppose, it wouldve prevented my first day of being bitten. The music mixes played throughout teh restaurants and hotel is wonderful, obviously professionally mastered to enhance the mood. get a passion fruit martini from Boudhi at the bar and enjoy...I would go back right now if I coudl afford it.

The best part about Parrot Cay is dreaming of getting there. Once we arrived we were met at the airport by a taxi (no resort representative) and dispatched to an awaiting 40 foot motor launch. The boat gets you there, but its very so so. You are greated at the boat dock and taken up the main lodge in a three row golf cart that makes you feel like you've just landed on fantasy island. At check-in we were greated by a nice enough woman who also poured us a welcome drink.

The room was nice with an ocean horizon view. Most are up on a hill, so you don't hear the ocean. They have gorgeous white ceiling to floor silk drapes, but that's about it. It's pretty much a barn like structure painted white. It's authentic minimalism...but a few comfortable seats or some slippers might be nice.

You will hear some buzzing at dusk as the resort brings out it's amphibous vehicle to spray for mosquitos. Folks, its not a minor problem, it's a huge problem...you cannot go out at night unless you are ready for some serious bug bite action.

The food was fine, but menu hardly changed. I was somewhat annoyed that we dined 3 times next to the hotel manager, who seemed to be more involved in entertaining himself than observing the slack service.

3-days in we were wishing we had gone to our favorite place Cap Juluca instead. To change it up, we went fishing. The resort owns a fleet of boats, we were sent out on a Boston Whaler, about 18 feet long. We got scared after the captain went out so far we could not see land. It got worse, he lost the anchor (forgot to tie it to the boat and threw it over)...and insisted he try and find it. Before we knew it, the captain had dived into the water after spotting it. He must have thought it was shallow, but we were in deep water, and he could barely swim. We rescued the captain and made it back...but the boat had no radio, no GPS, no map, no flare...and another tick of bad luck and we'd been lost at sea. After returning a request to see the general manger brought the assistant manager instead. While an apology was offered, it was sheepish and we we're billed for the outing.

On the flip side, we did see more than a few celebrities staying there which made for fun bragging rights back home (bruce willis, DKNY, streisand we're all there).

The small store in the main house has great merchandise. The SPA is absolutely fantastic, we rented the spa villa and enjoyed a couples message, bath and dinner. It's worth it.

On check-out, we were charged more per night than we were quoted and had choppy seas on the boat out. It took 30 minutes for them to tally up our tab. The SPA is probably one of the finest in the carribean, the accomidations are motel 6 with everything painted white, and the service is almost non-existant. If you are thinking of going, think again.

We just returned from a 5-night visit to Parrot Cay. I agree with many of the things said here -- the beach is the most amazing part; the grounds are great; the gym is great; the spa is great; the food in the main restaurant needs work; the food at the pool is great. If you're looking for a vacation where you have lots of choices of places to eat, this isn't for you. But if you're looking to relax, really get away from it ALL, and be at a spectacular beach, Parrot Cay is great. The bugs were so-so, not a real problem. Overall we had a great time.
