“A pleasant place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

This resort is situated in a lovely location, is clean and functions smoothly, and an adequate restaurant is part of the complex. The performance of staff extended over the spectrum from pleasant and helpful to sullen and uncooperative. It is identified as a "family-friendly" place. We were there as a couple, but the children around us were always well-behaved, so that the overall sense of serenity was maintained.

Room Tip: Upper floors are more private. "Studios" are well-appointed and more than adequate for a c...

Sands was all we hoped for when we set our goal for quiet decompresssion time in a warm locale. After the rush and pressure of the holidays and year end work matters we were fried and looking for a nice escape which we found at the Sands. We were checked in smoothly and efficiently and our room was so nice and comfortable with a great ocean view. We had a great lunch at Hemingways and headed for a four hour nap before returning for dinner there.
All of their food was very good and the beach/pool side location adds to the vacation feel.
OUR ONE COMPLAINT was the number of kids!! The second day and part of the third were not peaceful in our room due to a herd of wild, loud kids all 7 yrs and younger with even louder parents who were above us. They allowed their kids to run wild on all three floors, the hammock area and the restaurant and when they finally did decide to rein in the monsters they were even louder than the kids. It was bad enough to finally call the manager at 6:00 pm the second day of this to request another room (no luck there) but he (Miguel) agreed this was not acceptable and whatever he did put the kibosh on the noise and the rest of our stay was very pleasant. There were plenty of young families with little children so there is lots of crying and squealing which is ok at the pool or beach.

We spend 6 nights at The Sands and loved. Location, beach, ground, pool, restaurant, staff, everything was amazing. I highly recommend The Sands.

If you want an amazing view of the ocean and clean, friendly atmosphere than you must stay at the sands. My wife, two kids and myself stayed in a deluxe two bedroom ocean view condo and it was just beautiful. Beach right in front of you, pool as well.

The beach in Turks is prisitne! Such a beautiful island, we cannot wait to go back.

Theres a resteraun right on the grounds "Hemingways". The food is fresh and tasty. Must try the conch soup, or the conch fritters.

The condos are well kept and the employees are very kind.

All in all a great vacation!

We spent 4 nights at the Sands and had a wonderful stay. The rooms were very well kept, the staff was extremely friendly and accomodating and the location is terrific. The pool and beach areas are ideal for relaxing and we had great meals at Hemingway's. I highly recommend the Sands.

From the location, to the rooms, to the grounds, to the staff, and finally, to the value, everything was amazing during our stay at The Sands.

The hotel is located on prime beach real estate as there is only one other hotel adjacent to it and even that is in a distance. Compared to other hotels that are only a minute walking distance away, the beach felt very private. Yes, you are sharing with fellow guests, but if you were staying at Beaches, a five minute walk down the beach, you are sharing with many more people as well as an assortment of water toys. Not relaxing.

The staff was beyond helpful. We had a problem with our shower light and a window shade. Less than five minutes after calling down to the desk both were fixed.

Hemingways is a nice, relaxing restaurant as well. The conch fritters and caicos coffee are a must.

I can't say enough positive things about The Sands and Turks and Caicos.

My family and I vacationed at The Sands in July 2010. This was the second year we have been to The Sands and sadly our last. I booked 2 rooms and paid for them (IN FULL) months in advance.
Overall the resort was well maintained and the staff was friendly.
Imagine my surprise when getting my credit card statement and there were additional charges of $ 1736.00. When we checked out I asked for a receipt to make sure there were no additional charges or nothing we had overlooked.
I've disputed this charge twice with my credit card company. Twice it has been removed. This is now the third go around with The Sands on this issue.
What they are telling my credit card issuer is that I only paid a deposit and not the full amount when making the reservation. Which is NOT true because I booked them online several months in advance and there was nothing stating that this was just a deposit. I have sent the receipt that shows a zero balance at check out. If there were more charges then why would The Sands bill my credit card after I checked out? This sounds like an unethical practice to me. I'm still disputing this. I had to cancel my credit card and get a new one because of this issue. It’s like a never ending cycle. For the hassle I will not return to The Sands. I want everyone who would potentially vacation there to be fully warned of their practices.

Sands_Managment, Manager at Sands at Grace Bay, responded to this review, February 2, 2012
We are always disappointed to hear that a guest will not return but we want to make it clear that The Sands at Grace Bay does not take full deposit at the time of making a reservation. Our policy has always been the same, a required 3 night deposit on the room rate only. All hotel guests are required to pay government taxes on the room rate. There is no way around that. At the time of booking we do not require taxes up front, rather taxes are added when you are physically here. We explain this on all reservation confirmations and on our website.
