The wife and I just returned from a ten day stay at the Sibonne. After doing a cost/benefit analysis, we determined that staying at the Sibonne proved to be a wise decision.

That being said, anyone contemplating a stay at the hotel should be fully aware of several things:

1) The staff's hostility became a running a joke among the patrons. Staff members were given reverse nicknames that reflected their shortcomings: "Smiley," Friendly," "Helpful Harry," etc.
Personally, I don't need friendliness and affability to be comfortable. But in this case, staff members (with one or two notable exceptions) actually left me with the impression that they loathed me.

The wife and I were able to tolerate the hostility. If prospective patrons need attention and assistance (reservations, directions, phone numbers, recommendations) it is imperative that they stay elsewhere. Another running joke was: "if you have any questions, you can call the frontdesk."

2) The maid service was pretty shoddy. Fresh towels are only delivered after one or two phone calls to the front desk. Further, the sandy sheets weren't changed once in ten days.

3) The food at the Bay Bistro was exceptional. We consistently enjoyed top quality fish and a pretty decent wine selection. The lobster, Mahi Mahi, Ahi Tuna and conch crepes are about as good as anything you'll get at the priciest Manhattan restaurants. Nevertheless, the waitresses wouldn't last a week at a Bronx pizza parlor. Adjectives that come to mind are: aloof, disinterested, unattentive, unaccomodating and angry. Also, the general concensus was that there was some kind of noxious leachate/sewage odor adjacent to the bar that would occasionally waft into the dining area. That was a bit difficult to take.

4) The rooms were spacious and relatively clean.

5) The spot of beach in front of the the Sibonne is probably the most pristine and unoccupied on Grace Bay. One need only contrast it with the circus-like atmosphere in front of Beaches to realize how lucky one is to be hunkered down at the Sibonne.

My friend and I stayed at Sibbonne February 5-12 - yes, we just returned. My biggest concern were the reviews I read about the unfriendliness of the staff at the hotel. We did not meet one single unfriendly person during any part of our vacation. Everyone at the hotel and the restaurant were very friendly. Some were more reserved than others, but all treated us with respect and were very nice. We spoke to a couple that has been going to this hotel for over 10 years. They said the front desk staff used to be very unfriendly, but all the staff is now new. This was a pleasant suprise. The rooms were basic, but clean, located just steps from the beach. We booked a courtyard room. The only negatives were that only one light was working and the screen in the sliding glass door kept coming off the track and was ripped. We didn't complain because it was only mildly annoying. I did just send them an email to let them know. There was an iron and ironing board in the room and a refrigerator. The refrigerator came in very handy. We went to the grocery store one day and bought bread, sandwich meats, and drinks. The courtyard is very nice, filled with plants and flowers which attracted some very small and swift-moving hummingbirds. The pool was small and really unnecessary. we never saw anyone using it. It's a fresh-water pool and there water there smells bad and I wouldn't want to swim in it. The restaurant, which I kept being told is separate from the property (yet the continental breakfast was included in the room price) was very good. The staff was very friendly. The continental breakfast started out as toast, fruit, spice bread and juice. Halfway through the week the spice bread was off the menu. It was adequate and you could add bacon for $2.00. The other items on the menu were very reasonably priced. Bottled water is a bit on the high side though, but it is in a rather large bottle. Keep in mind that all beaches are public on the island. This means that a large group of locals can come to the beach at 3pm to celebrate a birthday, set up a very large (and loud) speaker and microphone system and hang out with the sounds of BOOM, BOOM, BOOM resonating throughout the hotel and the hotel next door until 10:30pm! :^) Again, only mildly annoying, but perfectly legal and acceptable.
Anyway, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The price can't be beat! Oh, one more thing, if you want one of the straw umbrella things on the beach you best get up bright and early to secure one with your towel (and definitely bring your own!). There aren't many and when the hotel is full (there are 30 rooms) it's hard to get one and you really need one for the shade if you plan on spending the day on the beach. Please be open to sharing if you're able to get one. And PLEASE clean up after yourself when you leave the beach. I can't even tell you how many times I saw people leaving their trash on the beach at the end of the day! Shameful! And the hotel could use a bit of sprucing up. A can of paint would go a long way.

“Second Trip to Sibonne, better the second time around!”

Sibonne Beach Hotel

We stayed at Sibonne a year ago and returned a little wiser, and in some respects were pleasantly surprised.

Improvements!
One of my previous complaints were that for 'ocean view' or 'delux ocean view' rooms the garden in the center court yard were far too over grown to see the ocean. This trip, ALL off the trees were neatly trimmed and slightly scupled to reveal partial views from the second floor balcony.

Also, another complaint we had on the first trip was regarding the service, which has been described on this board as rude to indifferent - I can honestly say they were friendly! All of it! From the front desk to housekeeping, were nice. Housekeeping even put fresh flowers on our bedside table. The restaurant staff was significantly better as well.

Negatives:

The towels still need an upgrade, we learned our lesson and brought our own!

Also, bathroom off the restaurant is A COMPLETE ABOMINATION (towels spread over missing tiles, many more loose wobbly tiles, gross, dirty, trust me - if you are eating at Bay Bistro - HOLD IT until you get back to where you are coming from - and if you are stayng at the hotel, use the facility in your room.

WARNING: if you have young children (under 5) DO NOT get a room on the second floor, the balcony has large spaces that children could easily fit through. (See Photo).

I still say this is the best value on Grace bay, with one of the greatest stretches of beach. Never crowded...

Sibonne is the smallest hotel on Grace Bay which is beautiful.
Has one of the best restaurants on the island. Rent a car before you go but you don't need a car for an entire week-just 3 days use will get you to all the harder to see places.

Grace Bay is experiencing a huge high rise building boom. Soon there will be too many visitors so go now or plan to fly in to Providenciales and hop to one of the smaller and less developed islands.

“Superb service at an affordable price!”

Sibonne Beach Hotel

I recentl stayed at the Sibonne from Nov. 29th to Dec 4th. The staff at the Sibonne were top-notch people delivering excellent service at an affordable price.
Whenever I enter a hotel the people who will have a positive/negative effect on me the most are the front desk staff. I've read negative reviews about the front desk staff on this website. The personnel I encountered were courteous and professional and friendly. On one occasion my iron was not working and they promptly gave me a new one, no questions asked. When I needed my clothes cleaned before departure they delivered them cleaned within a few hours. The cleaning staff also greeted me during my morning stroll.
The restaurant staff also deserve praise for their effort and hospitability. While eating dinner the restaurant manager would come to ask how my meal was. The food was excellent and healthy. Junior the bartender also provided me with some powerful drinks to stimulate my appetite.
I also venture outside the resort during my stay there. I dined at Hemingways which also has good food. JoJo the dolphin did not appear for a while there. The atmosphere there was good with someone playing jazz while you're eating. Bambooz Bar & Grill was decent too. They had a live band playing some oldies and the food was ok.
I visited Provo Ponies to do some horseback riding along the beach. That was a wonderful experience especially with guide's dogs following alongside us during the ride.
The beach is beautiful and serene. A lot of condos and resorts are under development. They also set aside space for vendors to sell their wares but they don't come to your resort and bother you. To get a spot in front of the Sibonne under the Tiki covers you need to get out of you room between 7 and 7:30. I noticed while eating breakfast guests tend to place their beach towel on their chair and place it under the Tiki and then they come and eat. By 9 AM all spots are take at least the wones with shade cover. By my 4th day I figured out the routine and grabbed a shady spot for myself though it was a partly cloudy day.
The Salt Mills is small strip mall 15 minutes if you walk from the resort. Several jewelry stores and number of restaurants dominate the area. Port of Call is a smaller place about five minutes from Salt Mills.
The Gecko shuttle is great. I used them to go to the supermarket. Just purchase your token next door at Somerset.
The fare is $11 for one day and $25 for 3 days which is much cheaper than a cab.
I enjoyed my stay at the Sibonne and will definitely stay there in the near future.
