Booked through Air Canada vacation. Very convenient place to stay with a family- full kitchen, washer/dryer, grocery store about 15 min walk away. We had room 831 for a family of four. Only one bed in the bedroom, comfortable. The second bed is a sofa bed in the living room, cheap foam mattress and not very comfortable at all. This room shouldn't really be sold to families of 4. This is the building farthest from the beach, but from the 3rd floor you have great view of the pools, landscaping and a glimpse of the ocean. This building is also quiet as it is far away from the restaurant, which some nights have music entertainment. Restaurant is good (Pelican). Staff is friendly. Beach is nice (turquoise waters, baby powder sand), although the sea was pretty rough the week we were there, hard to swim with younger kids. No snorkeling from that beach. For excursions, I suggest you book them in advance of your trip. Some tours (Provo Ponies for instance) get fully booked weeks ahead during busy spring break season.

Royal West Indies was a very affordable resort for people on a budget. The Turks and Caicos island is pretty expensive--count on paying double for everything. Our two bedroom condo was perfect. Our cleaning lady, Marie, was a real gem--always smiling. She made sure everything was tidy and kept us well stocked with towels/laundry detergent/etc. The female bartender, on the other hand, was surly and just didn't seem to be a happy person. We had a rental car which I felt was a necessity. Go to the IGA and stock up on lunch and breakfast items. Condos have full kitchens. Bed was comfortable. Beach chairs were tough to get some of the days. Ask the guy in the water sports booth and he'll get you one--but I made sure to tip him. One word of advice when you arrive in Turks and Caicos--Make sure you fill out the immigration form in PEN. After standing in line a long time, we finally got to the desk with our passports and the woman at the desk made my son go to the back of the line because his form was filled out in pencil. It would have been so nice if she had just let him write over the pencil with pen, but she made him go to the end of the line and we waited another hour for him to get to the front of the line again. Not a good way to start a vacation and she could have handled this unfortunate incident in a better way. She almost seemed to have a grudge against the tourists which amazed me since tourism is huge here. Luckily the Royal West Indies was a relaxing resort to unwind at.

Just got back from a week at the RWI - this was our first time in Turks and Caicos but it won't be the last. The trip was amazing; we loved the RWI - had a studio, ground level in Building 8 - I would have preferred a second level apartment just because I like to look over the foliage, but in the end, it really didn't matter. The unit was very clean and the entire place was very quiet. We were only steps from the quiet pool area. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the island or to stay at the RWI. I did feel like crying at the airport on Saturday (yes, it is a disaster but what can you do) mostly because I knew I had to go home to 10 degree weather!! Can't wait until next year. PS I read Ziggy's blog about the various restaurants and the three we tried were wonderful, his reviews are spot on!! I also asked a couple of questions on the forum while we were there and all the replies were very helpful.

Room Tip: I don't think there is really a bad room in the place; as others have said, I don't think it...

This is truly a lovely place centrally located on the island of Provinciales in the Caribbean paradise of Turks and Caicos. We found it to be well-staffed, restful, beautifully landscaped and offering an expansive beach of white sand and a fairly calm azure ocean. During the first week of March, the day temperature was in the mid to upper 80’s. At night, it was in the high 70’s, and so no jacket or long sleeve shirts were needed. At the same time, access to beach chairs and umbrellas was not a problem. An unobstructed view of the ocean was a daily delight. Much to our surprise and pleasure, the Royal West Indies Resort was relatively uncrowded. No college students on spring break, and no hoards of unpleasant tourists disembarking from cruise ships (such as you will find in Aruba). The clientele at this establishment are primarily couples of all ages with a sprinkling of families with young children. Keep in mind that this hotel has no elevators. So If climbing stairs is goig to be a problem, be sure to request a first floor unit.

There is a very decent restaurant on site, and many others within walking distance. Most are very expensive but offer great food and ambience. Dress is casual, but men may need to wear long pants in some places (but absolutely no ties or sport coats.) If you need one, there is a full service super market about a mile away, which means it can be troublesome if you’re on foot and need to carry a lot of groceries back to the hotel.

Because the Royal West Indies Resort is reasonably priced and offers facilities comparable to its more opulent and extravagant competitors, it appears to be an exceptional vacation value. Side excursions by land and sea are also available and add immensely to the overall vacation experience.

In closing, I should add that the airport in Provinciales is antiquated and overcrowded. Lots of folks had to stand because of inadequate seating in the departure area. In addition, there are only two small restrooms-- one of which was out of order at the time. To add insult to injury, our US Air flight was delayed due to “mechanical problems” which meant that we missed a connecting flight. However, the total time lost in getting home was only about two hours which we found to be irritating but bearable,

Room Tip: There are no elevators. So If climbing stairs is a problem, request a first floor unit.

The beach and ocean views are spectacular! We had the perfect ocean view from room 132. The grounds of the resort are well maintained & food is great! We had a relaxing, great time. My only complaint is that it was hard to find beach chairs because people left their towels on the chairs even after they left the beach. However, the staff was very helpful in putting out more chairs.

Our family of 4 (including 2 small children) stayed at the Royal West Indies recently for 5 nights. We really enjoyed everything about this resort. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was amazing especially in regards to listening to our concerns about our son's food allergies. Beautiful, well-kept flowers and plants surrounded every building and pool area. The pools were all quiet and the kids pool was perfect for our little ones.
As for TCI and Grace Bay, it is by far the most beautiful place I have ever visited. We will be coming back!!

We are a couple in our fifties. The front desk staff was very unfriendly. We stayed in room 833 for ten days. The room was cleaned but needed updating. Very basic necessities in the kitchen. Our coffee maker leaked but was quickly replaced. If I had know ahead of time that the units were all owner owned I would have booked a different resort. You never know what to expect.. We had a room with a botanical view. The view was nice. I asked the front desk for a studio closest to the beach. I had booked this resort 3 months in advance. When we got there she gave us the room furthest away from the beach and frankly didn't give a damn. The ground staff and cleaning staff were very nice. Don't forget to tip the cleaning lady daily. The people here are so nice but they are poor. The grounds are beautiful. The pool area is kept clean by a super staff.
I hated the people (guests) who placed towels on lounge chairs either by the pool or ocean and leave them there all day. This is my first time at a resort. It will be my last. I mean really, some of the guests at this resort assumed they owned the chairs all day long!!
The grace bay area is super nice. The beach is beautiful. We rented a car and drove around the area. Turtle cove for snorkeling and Chalk sound to see beautiful mansions a must. Buying food was great at the Grace Bay Gourmet store. It had everything you could possibly need. The prices are a little high, but by not much. We ate well, enjoy the beautiful beach when we could get a chair. We will go back but not at this resort.
Our flight home was delayed and eventually cancelled. This little airport cannot accommodate the people. The airline put us up at the Alexandria Resort. Very nice room except it smelled like mould the whole night. So this resort is very expensive and I preferred my room at the West Indies. The owner of unit 833 needs to update the room because the rest is well maintained. Some of the guests just drank from morning to wee hours ... This Resort is affordable like the other reviewer have mentioned. So it all depends on budget. If I were one of the owners I would look into changing the front desk staff. Its nice after a long plane ride to have someone who greets you with a smile and makes you feel welcomed.

Room Tip: If you can see pictures before hand of the room you are booking that would be a plus. We stayed in...

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Royal West Indies Resort. All comments are reviewed by our management and supervisory team. In terms of the room location, the category you booked was a botanical/garden view and we only upgrade based on availability. During the high winter season, ocean view and ocean front rooms which are closer to the beach are not easily available, which is similar for all resorts.

We continuously monitor the standards of our rooms and we will review the room you stayed in based on your comments. The suite that you stayed in has had several upgrades over the past few years including a new mattress, TV armoire, air conditioner and soft furnishings (eg. throw cushions, new fabric, etc.). All studios are essentially a standard hotel room with a basic kitchenette, therefore you are provided standard items such as microwave, coffee maker, cutlery, plates, glasses, fridge, toaster, bowls, etc.

In terms of other guests saving beach and pool chairs, we have a 60 minute period where if unattended, we will assign the lounger/chair to another guest if they require it. This is not easy as we try and keep all guests happy, therefore it is something that we monitor carefully.

The airport is currently being upgraded and you will see further improvements by 2015. This is part of overall tourism improvement plan for the country. We hope to see you again in the TCi in the near future and we appreciate your comments.
