“Quiet with a beautiful pool”

Turtle Cove Inn

We stayed at the Turtle cove in for 2 weeks from xmas 2005 through early January. We had 6 adults (ages 31-63)in 3 rooms on the ground floor near the pool. It was very convenient to go out the sliding glass door directly to the pool. The rooms were nothing special but certainly met our needs. The rooms and hotel area seemed to be well maintained.

The hotel rooms were clean. The mini-fridge came in handy for snacks and sodas. (there is a small convenience store and a liquor shop next to the hotel.)

The pool at the hotel is very nice and is deserted most days. It seems like most of the other occupants at the hotel were only there for a day or two before going on boat trips. The pool had good shade and good sun all day. There were more than enough chairs and loungers. For those that have knee problems the first step into/out of the pool was pretty big.

The hotel has a nice resurant Aqua in the courtyard, and 4 other nearby. Our favorites were the Tiki Hut and Shark Bite. The italian place next to Shark Bite did not thrill us - either with food or service.

We did take a tour of the island one day and rented a car another day. The hotel area by the "Salt Mills" was a string of high rise condos/suites/hotels. It was dusty with all the construction and seems crowded.

“Great place and more”

Stayed at Turtle Inn 12/30-1/9/06 and wife and I believe this place is great value. Queen beds are comfortable, ample pillows and towels, good size bathroom and excellent maid service daily. Facility is clean and well maintained each day; no kitchen but small refrig. Can walk to beach and snorkeling site in 10 minutes. We rented car for the 10 days ($65 per day at Rent A Buggy) and explored. Beware only 25% of roads are smoothly paved; 75% are hard gravel and coral (very bumpy). We ate out every night and plan for couple to spend $100 USD for 1-2 appetisers, 2 entrees, 1 desert (shared) and either bottle wine or cocktails before and 1 wine each during dinner (add tip). First 7 nights tried 7 different places, then went to 3 restaurants second time (last 3 nights) because they had the best food. Best restaurants were: Bay Bistro, Sushi (great, beats NYC!) and Aqua Bar and Terrace. My wife and I can not say enought good things about "Matsuri Sushi Bar" (in plaza with IGA) - exceptional and lower priced compared to the other 6 we ate. Stay away from Hey Jose (bland food, expensive). Also good but second tier: Coyaba (good food, very pricey), Hemingways (good but over priced) and Baci (nothing special). Snorkeling site at Coral Gardens nice but crowded beach. An excellent place for breakfast is SaltMills Cafe, across from new construction along north shore. American breakfasts for $8 each - excellent food and value. Many secluded beaches on south shore but hard to reach- don't give up. Northwest beach secluded, nice but not worth the long 40 minute drive; did not try Malcolms beach which requires 4-wheel drive (and one-hour drive). Would go back to TC Inn but might try another island in T&C chain first.

“Comfortable Budget Hotel on the Marina”

Turtle Cove Inn

Nov 17, 2004
42/44 found this review helpful

Just back from Provo on a quick trip using a cheap 'weekender' fare - so we didn't want to spend lots on a hotel. I tried to book at Sibonne on Grace Bay where I had stayed before - but they were full and mentioned that if I was going to rent a car and only stay a few days - I might want to consider their 'sister' hotel at Turtle Cove Marina.
They suggested that I take a look at their new website at turtlecovehotel.com and see if I could deal with being 'off the beach' in exchange for a very good rate.
The price was much lower than anything on the beach - and it looked pretty good on the web plus there was a decent but dated review here and on a few other review sites, so for a few days I thought I would give it a try.
We ended up having a great stay 'off the beach' in Provo.
If you've been to Provo you've probably been to Tiki Hut, Sharkbite, or Banana Boat - and this hotel is just down the Marina where Aqua Restaurant is.
Its an easy taxi drive from the airport - but if you're renting a car you'll want to make sure you get directions unless you've been to Provo before (get onto the 'highway' and then look for signs to the left after First Caribbean Bank & Price Club for Turtle Cove Marina - your rental car company will help here - its only confusing the first time while you're getting used to driving on the left side of the road).
The hotel was actually very nice. Its not fancy - but kind of a standard 'motel-layout' that surrounds a very good sized pool/garden area that also has a liquor store, car rental, cultural center and Aqua restaurant. Nothing fancy - rooms are pretty standard 2.5-3star accommodations that you might find at a Hojo Express type of hotel. But the rooms are clean and you have a the necessities like cable TV (no HBO), telephone (careful - calls in TCI are expensive with Cable & Wireless), balconies and mini-fridges, safe, decent beds, hot water. No shampoo in the rooms -so bring your own or ask at the desk.
We had a choice of $89 for poolside or $99 for Marina - so we splurged for the more expensive room so we could sit and look at all the boats in the Marina. The room ended up having a sofa as well - so we ended up spending more time at the hotel than we had expected. For the price - you can't find a deal like this on Provo.
Apparently this has always been a 'diver's hotel' since there are two dive shops just down the marina - and it fills up during the various fishing tournaments since all the fishing boats 'park' just in front of the hotel. We ended up really enjoying the view with a few really big yachts parking just next to our room.
We ended up not using our car as much as we thought - since there are so many restuarants right outside at the marina.
We did drive up to Grace Bay (less than 10 minutes drive) a few times to use that fantastic beach and parked right next to Sibonne since we really like the beach there on our last visit. We also took a walk to the beach right by Turtle Cove behind the new 'Yacht Club Condos' - its about 10 minutes walk to a relatively deserted section of 'Smith's Reef' beach - that was good for snorkeling and walking... but can't compare with that stretch of Grace Bay Beach that runs from Sibonne all the way past the Sands, Point Grace, Ocean Club and up to Club Med.
We went to Smith's Beach early am or in the late afternoon since there is no place to get out of the sun at this beach and the sun can be very strong at noon. But its great for watching the sunrise while you have the beach to yourself...
Breakfast wasn't included - but Aqua was open every morning for breakfast - and we had a few good dinners there. For hanging out, we went to Banana Boat where all the divers from Ocean Vibes hang out... or over to Tiki Hut next to Provo Turtle Divers. Both had a good 'Caribbean Hang-out' feel.
So - if you are going to spend your time running around the island or scuba diving/snorkeling all day, this is worth looking at. If you want a place right on the beach - Sibonne is still just about the best price on Grace Bay. But for a few days we liked being 'in the action' and hanging out at the marina for a change.
Note: the photos on the new website ------- are more recent than the older ----- that shows up in most search engines... and the prices are lower... so make sure that you get the 'new rates' if you go.
Overall - If you're looking for comfortable budget rooms at a great price rather than the full services and higher prices of a resort - give Turtle Cove Inn a look. We had a great time and would return.

The room at the Turtle Cove Inn was comfortable and well-appointed. The swimming pool area is beautiful. However, the office is open daily only between the hours of 8.00am to 8.00pm. Being that I was leaving on an early morning flight, I was asked to settle the bill the evening before. So I did. However, next morning I found that the phone had been turned off and I was unable to call the airline to confirm the flight and unable to call for a taxi. Also there were no bell-boys available so I had to lug my suitcases down the steps. Either arrive and depart within office hours or suffer the inconveniences.
