“Beautiful but very expensive.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2006

We stayed at Ocean Club East in April of 2005. The resort was beautiful, however i think their idea of a meal plan in Stupid. Sorry. I'm sure that they get a lot of business, and people buy the meal plans, however i think that if the resort offered an all-inclusive deal at least with meals and 1 alcoholic drink, they would do much better. I realize that the resort set up that you can buy the units, that they have a kitchenette, but when you have to pay thousands of dollars to stay and yet have to pay for food and beverage, it get's really costly.
Also, because the main doors have a screen door with glass slat's, the hallways are very noisy when other guests let their doors slam.
You might be wondering why we even went there?? A family member worked next door at Club Med. Since we were travelling with a toddler, we could not stay there.
Overall, Ocean Club East was a nice experience to stay at, and I would like to return if they offered an all-inclusive deal.

My Husband & I stayed in a Jr. suite at the Ocean Club Resort from Dec 2-8th, 2005. We were on the 2nd floor and had a beautiful room with all the ammenities. This is a condo style resort, although you feel like you are part of a small club. You get to know the staff and other guests very well. We met a couple from Conneticut and had some great fun going to dinner and on a sailing trip! In Provo you can do as little or as much as you want. Here's our story!!!
Resort: Rooms are very nice, clean, nice breeze all the time. Grounds are immaculate! Pools are very clean, beach is breathtaking!!! Sand is like sugar, water is so many shades of blue & green you can't even imagine! Great food at the Cabana Bar right on the beach, try the grouper taco's, they were my husbands favorite. Also Monday is Rum Punch Party night, can't miss that one, all the free Rum Punch you can drink!!!
ISLAND: Some poor area's which we didn't expect, but found out from the locals that the unkept properties belonged to people from Haiti that came over to fish for a living. The locals are very proud, clean, hardworking people. The view of the Grace Bay from the main road is pretty nice, there are lots of big houses right down on the water, also lots of new condo construction going one all over the island, you cannot get away from it.
SHOPPING: Not much to speak of like other islands we've visited. Booze cheap at the Duty Free shop at the airport. IGA in town is a little more expensive than home, especially produce. But still cheaper than eating out for every meal. We bought snacks, breakfast stuff, and Rum & mixers to make a few of our own drinks to take to the beach. Drinks are $7.00 to start, beer is $5.00, and there is a 10% tax on everything. So it did pay for us to make a few drinks of our own here & there, but we still tried many they had to offer!!!
EXCURSIONS: We took a 1/2 day Catamaran trip with Sail Provo, this is a must. Ryan was our captain and he was awesome! He had a co-captain but I forgot his name, they made the trip a terrific adventure. First we went to Iguana Island to see very large iguana's, really neat, then we went sailing for a while, then stopped to snorkel, beautiful clear blue-green water. Saw some cool fish, then saw 2 dolphins! They swam next to the boat for quite a while, racing us at times. The video we shot of them swimming and jumping out of the water right next to the boat is like something out of National Geographic!!! If you book at trip with them make sure you specifically ask for Ryan, you will have the time of your life!! Oh, and it includes all the Rum Punch you can drink, could it get any better???
We also went snorkleing down by Turtle Cove, at Smith's Reef. This was really neat because no-one was there but us, and there were some gorgeous houses right there along the beach, we found out later that they were all rentals. What fun would that be to go with 2-3 couples and rent a house right on the beach!
DINING: Eating out was certainly a highlight of our trip. We ate grouper at every place we went and it all was fixed differently but remained delicious at every place! If we had to narrow it down we would say top 2 were "Anacaona" at the Grace Bay club & "Hemmingways" at the Sands Resort. The food at the Ocean Club was very good also. We never had a bad meal anywhere!
We booked our trip through Cheap Carribean and paid much less than the $500.00/night price at the resort. We met a few owners using their condo and that's the price they ask, so check around. We have been to the Dominican Republic x2, Bahamas, Grand Caymen, Cancun x2, and Riviera Maya. I would rate this as a little classier place. The condo's they are building are ranging from $360,000 for a studio to $6,000,000 for a penthouse, so that tells you the kind of people on the island. We had a great time and would not hesitate to go back to this resort, actually we walked down the beach quite a way and not another resort had the bar right out by the beach so you could see the ocean and have lunch. I don't want to forget to mention "Desmond" & "Joe-Mo", they were bartenders and were great people to talk to and have laughs with at the Ocean Club.

We just got back from 7 nights at the Ocean Club Resort. We booked through american air vacations and the air, transfer to hotel, and 7 nights stay in a junior deluxe suite was included. The unit was great. We asked for a third floor unit and we got a first floor unit. So, the second night Sonia at the front desk showed me to a third floor unit. It made a big difference. The third floors have vaulted ceilings which make the unit feel larger. The first and second floor units have the popcorn ceilings, you know, from the 70s?

The power went out in parts of the island during our stay. Strange, some hotels had back up generators which seemed to keep the lights on. The Ocean Club had a generator, I think, but they could not get it to work. Our power was out for 8 hours on Wednesday. Since the sun goes down around 5pm during the winter, we were in the dark for a few hours.

There is a lot of construction going on right now. The roads are not all paved. Just be aware, this is a beautiful, less developed island. The primary roads should all be paved in the next year or two, island time.

Please send me an email if you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer your questions.

This was our 3rd stay at Ocean Club, the last time being 5 years ago. We were in a Deluxe Junior Suite, it was plenty large enough for 2 people. Like most of the accomodations on Provo, Ocean Club rooms come equipped with kitchens or kitchenettes. Our kitchenette had a full size refrigerator/freezer, toaster, microwave and 2-burner stovetop, along with all the necessary dishes, pans and accessories.

I love Ocean Club, it has a great location on Grace Bay. There was construction going on next door but the noise wasn't bothersome at all (November 2005). There has certainly been a lot of new construction since 2000 but the island is still special.

We didn't do much, sat on the beach for 3 days and went scuba diving for 3 days. We dove with Caicos Adventures, nice operation, great dive boat and Fifi is a real hoot. Asa was our favorite divemaster.

We went to dinner 3 times and ate in on the other nights. Our first dinner out was at the Gecko Grill at Ocean Club. Dinner was okay, nothing to rave or complain about. It's amazing how your dining experience can be ruined by your fellow diners. We ate outside on the patio and there was a family unit (grandparents, parents and 3 children) who made a spectacle of themselves. They all spoke at ear splitting volume, they encouraged the children to leave the table and run around PLUS the grandmother played ring around the rosie with them while they were waiting for dessert! Granted we were outside, but the patio (filled with other diners) wasn't their personal playground. It was quite annoying. I like children but there is a limit.

The Ocean Club and their sister hotel, Ocean Club West, offer a service called Diners Express. This was a very economical way to get around. The van leaves at 7:15 from Ocean Club, you arrange a return time with the driver. It cost $5/person for a roundtrip from Ocean Club to Hemingway's at The Sands. Less expensive than a private taxi.

We went to Hemingway's on a Thursday night, the entertainment was excellent! I'm sorry I don't know the gentleman's name but he was wonderful. He mostly played instrumental music but his rendition of Bob Marley's Redemption Song almost brought me to tears. Dinner was excellent, I had the filet mignon and my mother had the rack of lamb.

Our 3rd dinner was at Coco Bistro and was excellent as well. Although Coco Bistro is not on the water, its setting in a palm tree grove is beautiful. I had the daily special (it was a Friday) which was lamb tagine and my mother had seafood gratin. We both had the french onion soup for an appetizer, it was excellent.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me.

The resort was great! I would definitely stay at Ocean Club West vs. Ocean Club. The location is much more central. There was construction on both sides, but it never bothered us once. The staff was very friendly, the grounds were gorgeous! We always had a good experience with the pool/ocean side bar & grill. We have done a lot of traveing, and the beaches in Turks & Caicos are by far the most beautiful that we have ever seen. My only complaint was that there was not enough umbrellas on the beach. The sun gets so hot! We rented a car for a couple of days to travel so some of the good snorkel spots and restaurants. I don't feel that a car would be necessary for the whole trip. There is pretty good taxi service available. I would go back!
