“Very nice last minute vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2009

We moved from a Mexico all-inclusive vacation to Ocean Club Resort, due to the outbreak of the swine flu (which was highly over-rated thanks to the news). The price was pretty good, and I always wanted to go to the Turks & Caicos Islands, so we went. This was not an all-inclusive but it did have a kitchen. I packed as much food as I could stuff into my suitcase, and I am glad I did. Food is a bit pricey down there.

The rooms were large and airy, we had two next to each other. The nights were nice and quiet. The sunsets are beautiful. We did find out that there are a couple of different taxi services down there, so don't settle for the first one you see, you can save a lot of money. They will give you a card if you are happy with them, and you can call them directly.

You should bring your own pool floats, we wished we had. I brought our own snorkel gear, minus the life jackets, they will rent them to you for $5 a day, at the little snorkel store on the resort. We took a taxi from our resort down to Coral Gardens, you can snorkel off the beach, it was great. The taxi was only $6 pp. If you are early enough you can get a shade hut to the left of Coral Gardens resort area. We had lunch at Coral Gardens, it was good. I brought along banana's for the kids to feed the fish as they were snorking, the fish love bananas. They saw a couple of sea turtles, a pretty big baracuda, and tons of small fish.

Take advantage of the sister resort shuttle, you can ask them to drop you off at the shops instead of the sister resort. From there you can walk to the grocery store. You can use the resorts gas grills for your own bbq. Also, if you like those metal lizards, fish things that hang on walls, if you walk about 5 minutes past the local grocery store (not the big IGA, that is 5 miles away), on the left, you will find a little area that sells tons of them.

We did do a 1/2 day excursion on the Reef Peepers, that was a lot of fun. We snorkeled, dove for conch, had fresh conch salad, explored an island and saw a 2 dolphins. They were great at explaining all about the conch as they were getting them out of the shells.

This resort is a great place for a nice quiet vacation for a young family, group or a couple. We kept our teens busy, but there were no other teens there.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2009

First of all, I've got to let you know that our family of four (Mom, Dad, 2 kids – now 11 and 8) has visited a bunch of Caribbean resorts to date (Nassau, Bahamas; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Barbados, Grand Cayman, Bermuda, and so on).

Earlier this month (April 2009) we spent 8 nights in Provo, Turks & Caicos at the Ocean Club Resort. Oh my gosh, did we ever enjoy our trip!!!

The resort, surprising to say, was my 3rd choice after the Sands and Royal West Indies. I'm sooooo glad we ended up with OC East. I’ll provide you with a list of what we loved about the place and what we didn’t. Here’s what we loved:

• Grace Bay Beach is absolutely beautiful – pure, clear turquoise water with powdery white sand. Sure, there are shells here and there that might make for a less-than-smooth bottom, but it also makes for plenty of fun beach-combing at low tide. And at low tide you will find some floating seaweed or whatever, but overall, this is the cleanest beach I’ve ever experienced.

• The OC resort is filled with gorgeous landscaping of palm trees, a fountain, and multi-colored flowers everywhere.

• The OC resort has plenty of chaise lounges and those little chairs that let you enjoy sitting in the water, and lots of pink umbrellas to keep you out of the bright sunlight. (I warn you—keep applying sunblock, even if it’s waterproof!) I did not see people trying to save beach chairs early in the morning, like I’ve experienced at other Caribbean resorts.

• We had a “junior suite” on the first floor which was really a 1-bedroom without the master bath and dining table in the suite. It was great. We were right near the bigger pool and could walk right out and be there. Also good for taking shots of the gorgeous sunsets every evening at 7 pm. Keep in mind the OC resort is on a part of Grace Bay Beach that faces almost directly west, so sunsets are stunning.

• We had a screened-in porch that faced the resort and the ocean (and sunsets). The porch spanned the length of our suite- both the bedroom and the living room area, and both these areas had 3-door sliding doors you could open to get a full open view and breeze from the ocean. WONDERFUL! And if we’d been on the 2nd or 3rd floors, we would’ve been comfortable leaving these doors open all night. The porch, by the way, had a 4-chair dining table and 2 chaise lounges. It was huge. We loved it.

• The OC resort has 2 pools. The smaller one is right near the Cabana Bar & Grill – the onsite restaurant that is wonderfully right off the beach. So you can watch your kids swim while you and your mate are having a drink or snack at the bar / restaurant.

• There’s a watersports area right on the beach run by “Mustache Mike” and his little yorkie dog Isabella. We rented a double kayak for an hour for $25. He also has windsurfers and other sailing boats for rent.

• The OC resort has free tennis; free coffee, tea and water all day; free use of their bicycles (adult size only), free chips and yummy sweet-yet-spicy salsa each evening from 5 to 6. Every Monday they have a complimentary rum punch party with free rum punch and a buffet of appetizers.

• The OC resort also has an upscale restaurant, “Opus”. I would not recommend it. Portion sizes are tiny, and the prices are very high.

• The OC resort also has a convenience store. Now THIS I’d recommend. Food and restaurant prices in Turks & Caicos are quite high. Stock up on bottled water (although the tap water IS potable), juice, milk, eggs, and anything else your family might need. Another suggestion would be to pack as much food in your luggage as possible and avoid a lot of the high prices on the island, a tip I got from this forum and has proved quite fruitful.

• The OC has a complimentary shuttle to the OC West resort. This is great. You can check out the other resort, have fun there, and enjoy their location that is across the street from shopping and restaurants, and just down the street from Provo’s new IGA supermarket. During our trip the OC West resort experienced the problem of a young child having defecated in the pool, so the pool was closed for 2 days. Bummer. Luckily, the OC West guests could take the free shuttle to the OC resort and enjoy our pool.

• There are various spots in the OC resort where guests can use barbecue grills and have a little family or friendly get-together.

On the negative side, we were disappointed with:

• There are no direct flights from Chicago to Provo

• The OC resort no longer offers a complimentary ride to and from the airport. Big bummer, since cabbies charge $15 a person each way; $6 for each child. For our family, that’s $42 before tip. Yikes.

• The OC resort no longer has a kids’ club (one of the reasons we booked this resort), nor do they have a playground.

• The OC resort doesn’t have volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard, an arcade, or a playground that other resorts might have.

• The OC website says there are VCRs in each room, so we brought some VCR tapes for our kids to enjoy. Turns out our suite had DVD players. Not really a problem. We borrowed some DVDs (at no cost) from the reception area to enjoy. The kids loved “Winn Dixie” and “Spy Kids 2”.

• There’s no good shopping to walk to from OC. Take the free shuttle to OC West for souvenirs, T&C art and restaurants.

Overall, my family had a GREAT time at the OC resort, and we hope to return next spring with more family.

Beautiful condo/hotel on the best beach I have ever seen. The resort is beautifully landscaped, across from the golf course with access to delicious restaurants. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The suites come in all different sizes and are immaculate. The views are spectacular and the sunsets are amazing. This is the sort of place we can come back to for years.

Just came back from a week-- wonderful! Friendly people, perfect beach, great unit with beautiful sunset views. I've traveled throughout Asia, Europe, Mexico, and the US and Ocean Club is my favorite beach resort anywhere. Can't wait to go back.

We stayed at Ocean Club east from 3/25/09 thur 4/1/09. Had a deluxe studio for my wife, myself and our 6 year old. In the lobby at the resort they provided free coffee and computer use. I believe the resort is also wireless but we did not bring our pc so not sure how well that worked. Room was clean, had a nice little kitchen, screened porch overlooking the pool and was nicely decorated. Not sure why they needed screened porches because we did not see a bug the entire time we were there.
The beach and weather were both fabulous. My wife and I took runs every morning along the beach which streches for 12 miles.
Food was expensive as is typical at most islands we have visited. We stocked up at the IGA which had a selection similar to grocery stores you would find in the United States, though the prices were a lot higher. We ate breakfast and lunch at home and went out to dinner every night though they did have gas grills readily available if you wanted to grill. All of the restaurants had great food, though some had better service than others. They have lots of magazines in the rooms listing the restaurant options. I'm not sure I remember the names of all the places, but I think Cocoa Bistro, Opus at OC East and the sushi place at Salt Mill plaza were 3 of our favorites. Went to Horse (shack/head or something like that) casual bar on Sunday as they advertise live music and family games, but the place was not worth the drive.
We did rent a car for part of our trip. Taxi from/to airport is $15 a person. The hotel did have a shuttle that would take you to the IGA and I think that was around $30. We rented a small car that was almost $60 a day taxes included. Probably did not need a car as most of the restaurants were within 1 mile from the hotel. There is a free shuttle between OC East and West so you can take the shuttle to OC West (approximately 1 mile from OC East) and this would put you closer to several of the restaurants. Overall we had a wonderful experience.
I read an early review on this site saying the West was much better than the East, but I guess that would depend on your room. We ate breakfast at the West and could hardly tell the difference between the 2 hotels as they had such similar architecture.

We stayed at this resort during March and loved it. The pools and grounds are kept extremely clean and the location cannot be beat--away from the crowds and the screaming kids.

The staff onsite is very helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we were taken care of at every turn.

We loved that they provided clean outdoor grills that were cleaned each day. As a result, we grilled several times during the trip. In addition, we enjoyed the free shuttle to Ocean Club West. We spent a few days on the beach adjacent to that resort and found it equally satisfying. Sometimes we walked back to Ocean Club East, but it was always nice to have the shuttle service ready to pick us up at a moment's notice.

overall it was a great trip, and the service was first-rate.

This resort is located on a calm beach. We were very happy with our hotel room. we stayed one of the deluxe room. It was spacious. It had a kitchen area complete with cooking utensils, washser and drier. It had a large balcony which was screened.
We stayed there between March 8 and March 15. At the beginning there was zero fly, insects, and musquitos. But as time passed, we observed that the number of musquitos started to increase slightly. But it never bothered us. Weather got a little bit cool at night. It was windy at times.
We loved the beach. The hotel is situated in a calm area. There weren't a lot of noisy kids around. Music levels were kept low. So it is a nice area to relax and unwind. The food is pricey. There is a restaurant bar adjacent to the otel, which is less expensive. We ate there a lot. Their food was good. I think it was called Flamingo Cafe. It is located inside a local cultural market.
The hotel has a shuttle that takes you to their sister hotel which is located at West. There you can find more restaurant alternatives and there is a small downtown area you can walk. We took that shuttle to go to Grace Bay Club's bar and restaurant. They had a nice long bar that was called infiniti bar. It was very cool. The food and drinks are really expensive there but it was an experience you have to try.
Our overall experience with this hotel was very satisfactory. Its staff were helpful and kind.
