Owner description: The S/V ATABEYRA is a 69', traditionally rigged trading schooner that retired from cargo service 16 years ago. The vessel traded for years between Hispaniola and the Turks & Caicos Islands carrying such commodities as rum , beer, produce, plants and building materials. The ship has been refit as a charter vessel and now stays close to home in the sheltered waters of Grace Bay and the Caicos Cays of Turks and Caicos Islands. The S/V ATABEYRA is the perfect platform for learning hands on operation of traditional sailing craft, for exploring the exquisite undersea world and many islands that surround us or just lounging on her spacious, shaded decks. No vessel in the TCI charter fleet is as large or as versatile.Sun Charters and the ATABEYRA crew offer our guests a unique opportunity to get real sailing experience aboard the last of the tropical trading schooners. Being a gaff-rigged vessel carrying two headsails, there are lots of lines to pull, many sails to tend, and the skipper will even be happy to let you take the helm. Feel the past come alive as we sail through the uninhabited chain of Caicos Cays the same way it was done hundreds of years ago. The Cays were once the lair of the infamous lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Reid, and the waters and surrounding islands remain basically untouched since that time. The Crew of the Good Ship Atabeyra are proud that she is overwhelmingly the boat the residents choose when recreating in the Caicos Cays.

“Want to feel like a Rock Star?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

Spent the day with 8 close friends and experienced the time of our lives. Sailed through turqouise blue water and stopped out for a quick snorkel through underwater caves. Then stopped out to our own little private island that can be reached only by boat and and walked the white sand beaches. The crew is the best....Junior rocks and so does his Rum Punch. We never will forget it!

“Great day out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2010

Just spent a day on The Good Ship Atabeyra & Sun Charters. We booked as a large group (about 22 people) and were taken snorkeling and then to a deserted island, which was stunning. Most of out party took full advantage and dived into the sea at every opportunity. We were also served delicious sandwiches for lunch. Two of our party were young children, and the crew when out of their way to make their day very special. Overall, I was very impressed. It was well organised and great fun. Definitely recommended. Can't remember all the crew by name, but Junior was a top lad!

“A trip not to be missed - something for everyone.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2010

Last Friday, I went on the Atebeyra sunset cruise in Turks and Caicos. It was a magical evening where we had Jo Jo the dolphin accompanying us the whole way.
The vibe on the boat was very relaxed and friendly, the crew were fantastic making sure that everyone had a drink and was having a good time.
The sunset was beautiful - I highly recommend this trip to anyone - I will definately be going again!

“Wedding and Sunset Cruise on the Atabeyra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2010

The daughter of our best friend invited us to a wedding in Turks and Caicos to her "belonger" fiance, the ceremony to take place on the Atabeyra. We had no idea what to expect but we are thrilled to report that we had a wonderful time. Family and friends met at the Big Blue dock and waited with the groom for the bride and bridal party. They walked the long distance to the Atabeyra in wonderful sunshine. The blue sea giving a setting that was just amazing. Whilst waiting for a few late comers David and his crew plied the guests with chilled rum punch which helped us all to relax and enjoy!! The Atabeyra anchored at Pelican Beach where the young couple took their vows in front of a further 150 guests who could witness and hear all that was going on. David made sure that his wonderful craft stayed steady on the beach whilst the ceremony continued on the bow. We sailed back to Big Blue and then drove to Pelican Beach for the party. Thank you David for helping to make this such a special event for all concerned.

During our stay we decided to take another cruise on the Atabeyra and booked their sunset cruise. A great decision. There were 8 in the party and we had the most amazing evening. JoJo the legendary dolphin who lives alone in these beautiful waters and prefers humans to other dolphins joined us for the whole 2 hours, amusing us by dipping and diving from one side of the boat to the other. What a fantastic chance to see this fabulous creature. David made sure that all the people on the boat got to see Jo Jo whilst his crew kept filling our glasses with rum punch that seemed to get stronger as the evening went on!
Salsa and chips were also served and the whole atmosphere on board was one of friendliness and fun. The crew were polite, helpful, and great fun. The craft is beautiful and if you are in Turks and Caicos you have to make sure you book a trip with David and his crew on the Good Ship Atabeyra. Definitely not to be missed. “Best day of the whole trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2010

We spent a week at Beaches but the best time, as agreed by young and old alike, was our half day cruise with Captain David and his crew--Lee and Junior.
