On discovering our hotel restaurant was closed on Sunday, we asked the front desk for a recommendation and found ourselves at the Magnolia Restaurant. Normally, we research the restaurant we go to and rarely rely on hotel recommendations. In this case everything worked out wonderfully, although this is only the second restaurant on TCI we ate at so not a large basis for comparison.
Overall the food and service were excellent and the seating, outside on hill overlooking the marina was quite pleasant. The restaurant's signature dish is a sesame crusted lightly seared tuna but we opted for other dishes. I had a classic caesar salad and the catch of the day, wahoo with leeks, potato, and a beet reduction. Both were excellent. My wife had the sweet potato and plantain soup and a Thai pork and shrimp salad (an appetizer) as the main dish. Again, excellent balanced flavors and nice mix of textures.
The restaurant was apparently started by a North American couple who visited the island on their honeymoon >10 years ago. Perhaps not surprisingly those eating at the restaurant were tourists rather than locals. Overall, the restaurant Magnolia was a very pleasant surprise.
