For our honeymoon we made the trip to Grand Turk and stayed in the Jungle Bungalow. What a great decision and such a beautiful location. The Manta House, as mentioned in prior reviews, is owned by two very accomodating and kind sisters. It is located across a very small street from the Sandbar Restaurant which is also owned by the sisters and a cute/clean beach. It is about 5 to 10 minutes from the airport, and right in the middle of a very picturesque street with three different dive shops. The dive shops are all within walking distance, and they are really wonderful.
The Jungle Bungalow was clean with a very comfortable king size bed and a relaxing sitting room. We really enjoyed the air conditioning - it took the edge off any mugginess in the air. It was nice to have such a large place to stay given the other hotel we stayed at in Provo, and we loved having our own refrigerator and toaster. The price, especially compared to Provo, can't be beat. If we had to do it over again we probably would have skipped Provo and their prices all together.
Grand Turk is definitely not as populated as and commercialized as Provo, so I'd recommend either bringing a good pair of walking shoes to get to the few grocery stores on the island and/or renting a car. As far as restaurants, the Sandbar is really the best choice although we did make a concerted effort to try the Osprey onone night, the Saltraker one night and a place called "Beachin" on one night. The food at the Sandbar was just better, not only in flavor but in price. Our only two complaints about the entire stay were the mosquitos that mercilessly attacked only me (not my husband) until I smartened up and bathed in bug spray every day. The other was that we both wished there was a small complimentary breakfast offered with our room because scrounging up food every morning was a challenge before we had to get to the dive shop for our morning dives. I recommend you bring some pop tarts from home or your own food, so you're not left trying to figure it all out.
The diving is what makes Grand Turk and the Manta House so very special. We were able to dive with Oasis Divers three times a day. The dive shop is expertly run by Dale and located so close to the Manta House you won't believe it. Make sure you get Mackey at Oasis Divers as your dive master and you will not be disappointed. We were lucky enough to see some wild dolphins diving, as well as many other spectacular fish, turtles and coral. It was truly the best diving of my life, and I've dove around the world.
Our stay at the Manta House was a once in a lifetime event and made for the perfect honeymoon. We could not have been happier and highly recommend this wonderful location and hotel.
