“A Heavenly Honeymoon Thanks to the Manta House -”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

For our honeymoon we made the trip to Grand Turk and stayed in the Jungle Bungalow. What a great decision and such a beautiful location. The Manta House, as mentioned in prior reviews, is owned by two very accomodating and kind sisters. It is located across a very small street from the Sandbar Restaurant which is also owned by the sisters and a cute/clean beach. It is about 5 to 10 minutes from the airport, and right in the middle of a very picturesque street with three different dive shops. The dive shops are all within walking distance, and they are really wonderful.
The Jungle Bungalow was clean with a very comfortable king size bed and a relaxing sitting room. We really enjoyed the air conditioning - it took the edge off any mugginess in the air. It was nice to have such a large place to stay given the other hotel we stayed at in Provo, and we loved having our own refrigerator and toaster. The price, especially compared to Provo, can't be beat. If we had to do it over again we probably would have skipped Provo and their prices all together.
Grand Turk is definitely not as populated as and commercialized as Provo, so I'd recommend either bringing a good pair of walking shoes to get to the few grocery stores on the island and/or renting a car. As far as restaurants, the Sandbar is really the best choice although we did make a concerted effort to try the Osprey onone night, the Saltraker one night and a place called "Beachin" on one night. The food at the Sandbar was just better, not only in flavor but in price. Our only two complaints about the entire stay were the mosquitos that mercilessly attacked only me (not my husband) until I smartened up and bathed in bug spray every day. The other was that we both wished there was a small complimentary breakfast offered with our room because scrounging up food every morning was a challenge before we had to get to the dive shop for our morning dives. I recommend you bring some pop tarts from home or your own food, so you're not left trying to figure it all out.
The diving is what makes Grand Turk and the Manta House so very special. We were able to dive with Oasis Divers three times a day. The dive shop is expertly run by Dale and located so close to the Manta House you won't believe it. Make sure you get Mackey at Oasis Divers as your dive master and you will not be disappointed. We were lucky enough to see some wild dolphins diving, as well as many other spectacular fish, turtles and coral. It was truly the best diving of my life, and I've dove around the world.
Our stay at the Manta House was a once in a lifetime event and made for the perfect honeymoon. We could not have been happier and highly recommend this wonderful location and hotel.

We just returned from a 7 day trip to Grand Turk staying at Manta House in the Jungle Bungalow. It was a perfect place for us to stay. It was conveniently located a few steps away from the Grand Turk Dive Shop which we were diving with all week. It sits right in front of the beach were you can jump right into the crystal clear blue waters. The Sandbar Restaurant is right next to Manta House and convenient to have lunch and dinner every day. If you are staying at the Manta House you can have your meals charged to your room so that you pay at the end of your stay which made things simple. It is also right next door to other restaurants if you need a change of pace. Tanya and Katya were always making sure we were comfortable and checked in on us everyday. We had a minor shower pressure issue and they had it fixed in just minutes.

The Jungle Bungalow was perfect for the two of us. It was spacious with a king sized bed and a sitting area with two couches. There was a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and dishes should you decide to eat in. We stopped at the grocery store and had a cereal breakfast in our room every morning, so the dishes and fridge were very useful. The AC worked great and kept us cool every night. The cleaning staff kept our room clean every day and replenished our towels. If you must be connected to the world, there is free wifi connection in the room. My techie husband had his internet fix everyday, while I chose to completely disconnect from the world and just relax. On our last day we were able to tour the other two houses, a 2 and 3 bedroom. They are very nice and would be perfect for families or people traveling with a few couples.

The sandbar restaurant had delicious food. I had a group sandwhich every day for lunch it was sooo yummy! The deck sits right on the water and has a gorgeous view of the sunset. The bar seemed to be the place for people to gather every night. They had a wedding one night and had music playing, but we didn't even hear it with the AC running.

If you are looking for a place to relax on a small carrribean island, Grand Turk is the place to go and Manta house was perfect for us. If you are looking for a resort type location with a spa and fancy restaurants, Providenciales would probably be best for you. Grand Turk is a tiny, quiet island where everyone seems to know each other and are super friendly. We absolutely loved our stay in Grand Turk at the Manta House. We look forward to returning again soon.

Room Tip: If you want a kitchen to cook a meal, recommend choosing the larger bunglows.

You have to understand Grand Turk is a little rustic. But if you are looking to “get away” and do some diving then the Manta House is the place. We felt at home at the Manta House. The owners were very friendly and helpful for our entire trip, and occasionally we needed help. The accommodations were comfortable. Diving was close and convenient - Walk to dive shop and surface interval back at the Mant House! Sand Bar Restaurant across the street was very convenient

We stayed for one week at Manta house and we found it superb. The location is perfect with the Sandbar (good food!) right across the street. Employees couldn't be more helpful. Everyone on the Island is helpful!! Super people. Very relaxed atmosphere for those that don't like the "resort" feeling. Like staying in a wee cottage on the beach. The only complaint we have is that we were told there would be a cab awaiting at the Grand Turk Airport to pick us up. There was four of us and she charged $7 per person so with tips (for the luggage man too) and the ride to Manta House, which is five minutes max. from the airport, it was an almost $40 charge! Found this a bit excessive and thought that Manta House should provide transportation for their guests like most businesses do. Grand Turk is a most beautiful Island and a Diver's/Snorkel paradise but they really need to get their act together in regards to recycling. Such a shame to have to throw water bottles and paper products in the garbage and to see so much garbage in the side streets. Recycllng just doesn't exist. Hopefully that will change soon! Especially for an Island!!!
For this reason alone we wouldn't return to the Island until they get their act together.
Thanks for a good week, Macs

Room Tip: The North cottage is 1-1/2 bathrooms and can be noisy at night if you prefer quiet.

Just returned last week from Grand Turk and our stay at Manta House. Many many thanks to Katya and her wonderful hospitality - she is amazing!! We stayed in the middle bungalow and it was just what we needed for our family. It was large, clean, fresh and very nicely decorated. We wanted for absolutely nothing during our stay and the few things that we did want to get such as a golf cart or taxi Katya was there to organize things. I don't think I have seen a gal work so hard and be so busy but she always had a smile on her face and a warm welcome. The Sandbar is a great place to grab some food, all that we tried there was really good and the portion sizes are perfect. You can't beat the location either. The beach outside Manta House is just perfect and the best part is most of the time there was no one on it. There isn't much to do on the island unless you dive, but it is so relaxing to just unplug and get away from the clock. Can't say enough great things about Manta House and Katya - would most certainly go back just because the hospitality was so wonderful!!

I was so impressed by the reviews of Manta House, it made it easy to book my week. They were all right, it is a wonderful place. The Jungle Bungalow was roomy, comfortable and a perfect location, just feet from the beach. I would definitely recommend it if you want a quiet relaxing vacation. Wonderful people to meet including friendly islanders, roaming dogs, cows, horses and donkey's. Bike riding is a main mode of transportation and so many beautiful areas to see. Thanks to Katya, she was able to schedule us for Discovery Scuba with the famous Smitty. It was a wonderful experience and one I will pursue again. A wonderful getaway for sure.

This was our first trip to Manta House and we absolutely loved it. The owners couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. The cottage we rented was clean and a daily maid was offered free of charge. The islanders are friendly and love to chat and being on the historic main street was a definate plus. We'll definately be back!!

Room Tip: middle cottage is great for large families
