We found out about Jack's Shack from our snorkeling tour guide (I think they are owned by one and the same) and I'm so glad we did. The Grand Turk cruise terminal is touristy, fake, overpriced wasteland of cheap souveniers and jam-packed with lounge chairs. (Very much like the pool on the cruise ship which I was quite sick of).
Jack's shack is really quite that...a shack serving any type of rum you want. The folks there serving it up are two expats...one from So. Cal and one from Ontario and they are about the nicest people I've ever met. So is the staff; laid back and friendly Jamaicans --- one of whom cooks up the best jerk chicken you will ever taste.
If you are looking for a genuine island experience, then make the small hike down the beach to Jack's. I was surprised that they took credit cards; they do and they also sell their own tee shirts and a few other souveniers there as well.
We were only going to stop in for a drink but ended up staying all day long until we had to board. Nice people, great (strong) drinks, excellent BBQ.
