Great place to be with beautiful clear pools, good clean and almost empty beaches adjacent, with really friendly staff.
Earlier reviews highlight that some of the decor needs attention but this didn't take the gloss off our 10 day visit on a fully inclusive basis.
If the hotel pools and beaches don't appeal the free hotel shuttle to and from Pidgeon Point and Stores Bay provide a very pleasant change.
Hotel facilities include golf, tennis, gym and spa.
Restaurants and bars at night are a little soul less as many guests take the opportunity of eating out of the hotel.
We found the staff really friendly if not always perfectly trained in taking fine dining orders or better quality wines but so what - delightful people happy that you were visiting their friendly island and always keen to suggest a visit to one of the island's attractions.
Only real negative on a fully inclusive basis is the way they do/don't advise what's included and what isn't. Annoying and occasionally embarrassing. For that reason on a return visit would probably avoid in favour of B&B.
Breakfasts excellent with so much choice for all diets. When really busy can become bombed -shortages, queues etc - like any other busy catering outlet.
Good location to tour island from with Atlantic breeze prevailing most of the time.
Try the cocktails around the pool at sunset.
We'll be back and I am a tour operator!

This was a return visit after 2 years. I agre with previous comments about the decor looking tired and the effects of the Atlantic on the exterior paintwork. I don't agree with comments about the Atlantic being too rough to swim in. Sure there are waves but it is very shallow and there were lots of people swimming in the sea while we were there- probably fellow Brits not put off by a few waves! There is free transfer to Pigeon Point and Store Bay for hotel guests who prefer the Caribbean sea. The shops at Pigeon Point are now charging extortionate prices for their gifts compared to 2 years ago- we wondered if the cruse ship passengers were the target of this overcharging. Store Bay has become a hassle which is a shame as it is a very good spot to watch the sunset and the brown Pelicans diving.

We were on a room only package as we like to hire a car and eat locally. Rosies Bakery on the Milford rd does wonderful cakes and the best saltfish and bake- that was breakfast sorted every morning. It is closed on Saturday but the Golden Girls bakery is open- not such good bake but lovely cakes. The Canaan fruit basket is excellent for fruit. Pineapples which taste as they should and other delicous tropical fruit. The Roti shop further along the Milford rd does excellent rotis for lunch and if you are in Scarborough -Lals Restaurant is really good for roti too. Good restaurants to try are Dillons at Crown Point, Seashells on Shirvan Rd , Christinas at Castara and of course Jemmas in Speyside. Eating at the Hilton is okay but a bit samey and the wine is expensive. The Coral Reef Restaurant is very good and so is the service. Something to watch, if you order white wine at the bar it comes in a small glass despite being advertised at 200mls. The charge was 380TT$ and it took forever to explain why this was a problem as the staff could not get away from the fact that white wine came in a small glass and red wine in a big glass- neither of which measured 200mls!! Junior staff can not make decisions off their own back and always have to defer to a supervisor. They are however unfailingly courteous.

The layout of the Hilton makes you feel that there is loads of space and the sea view is wonderful. I like the sound of the Atlantic and the wind keeps you cool. We were completely chilled out at the end of our stay and hope when we go back the Hilton Group will have invested in the decor to keep the hotel looking at its best.

Stayed at the Hilton Tobago from 2 - 16 March 2006
Beautiful location, but for the benefit of those considering a holiday here (having stayed in several other Caribbean islands) would draw your attention to the following:
Good points:
Very scenic situation on Atlantic coast.
Welcome constant cool breeze. Well kept grounds.
Two beaches - the largest approx 1 mile long.
Plenty of sun loungers - Areas for quiet relaxation
Rooms spacious and well appointed, although some were 5 mins walk to main hotel area.
V.good taxi service from front of hotel and twice daily shuttle service to Store Bay and Pigeon Point on the Caribbean side of the island.

Negative Points
After having been travelling for 12 hours arrived at the hotel and queued for a long time at Reception, where we were not even welcomed.
We were promised that our cases would be delivered to our room immediately, but forty minutes later still no sign of them, so went back to Reception to retrieve them ourselves.
Restaurant and bar facilities - very average. We were on a breakfast only basis but did try a couple of evening meals also in the restaurant.
Breakfast very repetitive and v. poorly organised. Kept running out of items on the buffet.
Evening meals very ordinary and costly, really no atmosphere in the Restaurant or bars. Very pleased that we were not on an all inclusive basis. We did enjoy eating out at some of the Restaurants on the island, for example the Kariwak, Seahorse, Pelican Reef, Terraza.
Wine very expensive at Hotel, for example £20 per bottle for house wine. Management and staff attitude very patchy, some good, some bad and some awful.
Both beaches very dirty, bottles, driftwood, debris remained there during our two weeks stay. However, saw cleaner once on smaller beach but larger beach remained untouched.
Mix of business and holiday clientele just didn't work.
Although rooms were spacious, no individuality, typical of large Hotel chain.
The island is very beautiful and if we return we would choose a smaller hotel with a more personalised service and better value for money. The cost of eating out is quite expensive compared with other Caribbean islands, and remember that 25% is added to the prices shown on the menus. (VAT and service)
In summing up our holiday was good but we felt that the Hilton could have been so much better. It really was not a four star establishment and we got the feeling we were just one of many. It is such a pity as the potential is there to make it really great.

The Tobago Hilton is on the Atlantic side of the Carribean. Therefore it is on the side that the water is definately rougher and less warm. The hotel itself is lovely...the staff are very friendly and the bar staff are just hilarious. There is good entertainment at the Robinson Crusor bar - not cheesy.

v difficult and big golf course attached to the hotel.

However there is a huge driveway between the main road and the the hotel and there is nothing close by. You cannot walk to anywhere nearby - you will need a taxi.....and the hilton taxi prices are exhorbitant.

so all in all it was a lovely stay...we sent most of our time travelling to the carribean side because of the 'bluer' sea ...but this cost us a lot of money

Stayed 4 days/3 nights, right after Carnival, for some rest and relaxation. The property is huge, with many many rooms. On the water, but with very little real beach--need to take shuttle to Pigeon Point for the real beach. Have stayed at many Hilton properties through the years, and this is not up to Hilton standards. Look around and see many items peeling, rotting, not being taken care of. Very limited food choices (2 restaurants) at high prices, and hotel out of the way, so need to hire cab or a car to get out and experience the real Tobago. For the price you pay to stay at the Hilton, I would have tried an unknown hotel and been much closer to any action. A bit disappointed here. Was ready to leave after a few days. The staff was not particularly friendly or well informed about much as a whole, but a few shining stars in the bunch.
