My Favourite Restaurant
La Tartaruga is a premier Italian restaurant which serves the most delicious dishes. There are always handmade pastas, the freshest herbs and vegetables and a wide variety of wines to choose from. The meats in their dishes are of high quality. They support the nearby fishermen in order to have the freshest sea food choices. They also carter for vegetarians with dishes like Pasta Primavera and the simple but delectable, Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce Drizzled with Parmesan Cheese.
The restaurant is located at Buccoo Road in the quite village of Buccoo in our twin island of Tobago. Adjacent to the restaurant is Buccoo Bay which caters for the local fishermen of the village. Surrounding the restaurant there is a lot of greenery and which have all been strategically placed to enhance the natural flow of the open air dining experience. Entwined in the plants are decorated bulbs which give of a soft glow which simply takes you to a different place. There are quite a number of art pieces displayed in the restaurant as well which are all from local artists. The drive to the restaurant is breath taking, as you off into Shrivan Road from the Claude Noel Highway. There are many pastures along the way, small businesses and even a golf course. The restaurant is opened Monday to Saturday from six pm to eleven pm.
Service at this restaurant is very good.
The owner greets you at the entrance and seats you at your table. The staff are very friendly and understanding and they carter for your every need. They are prompt with your orders and there is always service with a smile. They even give you the option to visit the internationally recognized wine cellar to hand pick your bottle of wine. The restaurant is also equipped to accommodate young children and wheelchair users. Since there are so many international visitors quite a number of the staff is bilingual. Some speak Spanish and French while the owner and who is from Italy speaks Italian. However their first choice of language is English.
Pricing at La Taratuga is very affordable. Appetizers like Tomato Bruschetta are about thirty five TT Dollars and while Spicy Shrimp Kebabs are forty five TT Dollars each. Dishes range from sixty five to over three hundred dollars depending on your choice. The vegetarian dishes are the least expensive, next are the meat dishes and the sea food is the most expensive. But you can have a Shrimp and Pasta dish for as little as ninety five dollars, so all in all you can dine on a budget. A bottle of wine can be as little as two hundred TT. Desserts are from twenty five upwards. There is always a wide variety to choose from. They have Italian desserts as well as fruit cocktails, a range of cheeses, a number of cakes and fresh baked pastries as well as a variety of ice cream both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
