“AH-mazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2009

To Paul and Gill - thank you for such a memorable stay at the Hibiscus Heights! I'm finding it difficult to articulate how wonderful this place is. Maybe, though, that's all I need to say.

I stayed in the lovely Sweet Nest cottage. It's open, airy and very cosy. There is a balcony where I enjoyed my coffee every morning. I opened the kitchen shades to see the Caribbean gleaming in all it's glory. It's a very, very lovely room.

It's about a five minute walk to the beach. Make sure to visit Jazzy and Roy's where you'll be served local cuisines like chicken roti. Jazzy is quite a character; make sure you get to know her.

A special thank you to Peggy as well. Thanks for ensuring i had a wonderful stay. Such a sweet woman.

Again, this is a wonderful, wonderful place and i will certainly return to Hibiscus Heights when i return to Tobago.

My husband and I stayed at Sweet Nest for 8 days and we had a wonderful stay!
Gill and Paul do their very best to keep you happy and comfortable from the pick up at the ferry terminal (we were coming from Trinidad) to any need you have for car rental, lifts to the shops, etc!
Sweet nest cottage has anything you need: comfortable beds, good sized bathroom with huge shower. Very functional kitchen with all the right utensils, huge fridge to store 1 week shopping, and a wonderful balcony-patio with a huge Barbecue where every single night we cooked fresh fish while listening to the see and the breeze through the trees!
Lovely colorful birds entertain you every morning at breakfast as well.
You get a nice TV and DVD player as well. The air conditioning system is really good: very quiet (and believe me it is quiet) and some nice ceiling fans are useful as well.
Location: literally 5-10minutes walk to the nearest beach (Grafton beach) and slightly longer walk to Mount Irvine beach (and the wonderful Pigeon Point). 2 minutes to the nearest shop which has some essentials like washing up liquid or candles. There is also a fruit stall.
Crown points is 15-20 minutes drive on no-traffic roads.
Note for the scuba-divers: on Grafton Beach you will find a great Dive Centre: Scuba Adventure Safari owned by Johnny. Great!
I think the location is ideal as you are near to so many great things but far enough to enjoy peace and tranquility.

Go for it!

Holidays - the best time of the year.....
Tobago - one of the best places to be.....
Hibiscus Heights - definitely the best place to stay in Tobago !!! Comfortable, cozy, safe, superclean, the most helpful and friendly hosts you'll find, beaches in walking distance... a little walk down the hill and you'll find (almost) everything, a supermarket, restaurants, bar, ATM.
Last year I stayed at Hibiscus Heights for the first time (and for 5 weeks), even though I come to Tobago since many years. All I can say I've found my favourite place. Tobago and Hibiscus Heigths - my home away from home !!

Btw, will be there again in March / April 2009 for 5 weeks. What else can I say ????

We stayed in the Artist's studio for 11 nights. From the moment we landed, we felt welcome and cared for by Paul and Gillian. They are truly amazing people who dedicate themselves to their guests but are in no way intrusive. Nothing seems too much trouble for them. Paul met us and gave us a brief drive around to show us the nearest beach, shops etc. Gillian then welcomed us in the apartment. Everything is spotless and so many little touches to make it like home. The apartment was much bigger than we expected and had every comfort. Even ear plugs provided!! There had been a review concerning barking dogs, crowing cockerels and loud music from the bar. Maybe, Paul and Gillian had felt it necessary to respond with the ear plugs. However, although dogs do bark, cockerels do crow and the bar plays loud music at times, this in no way spoilt our holiday. To be fair, I think that anywhere on Tobago could have this problem.

We felt very safe all the time we were there especially as Paul and Gillian live there and know the area and keep an eye out for you and the grounds are locked at night.

The air con and ceiling fans make the apartment very comfortable. I have never known such quiet air con or fans. The fan over the bed is great for keeping cool at night. The mosquitoes do bite so take plenty of repellant although there are plug ins in the apartment.

No need to take any reading matter on this holiday!! There is a whole library with a variety of reading matter including a Rough Guide to Tobago.

Paul arranged a hire car for us and took us to collect it. We felt this was necessary in order to make the most of seeing around the island although the local beach is in walking distance and has a beach bar.

We loved Pigeon Point even though you have to pay to enter. 18 TT$ per person + 10 TT$ for a sunbed. We felt this was worth it especially when the sea is rough as this was a much quieter bay and very safe bathing. There are also large covered picnic areas useful both to provide shelter from the rain and the sun.

Argyle Falls are a must to visit and swim under the falls. You have your own personal guide who is well informed on the birds, plants and trees.

Don't forget to visit the local bird sanctuary. Experience the local cuisine just down the road from Hibiscus heights. Make sure you try Joanne's take away.

Of course we mustn't forget Peggy who comes in to clean each day. She is a lovely lady and is so warm and friendly. We loved chatting to her. What a special person she is - a real gem.

One of the highlights was when we had a power cut one night. Paul was round almost immediately with extra candles and checking that we were OK. We then stepped outside to watch the amazing sparkling display put on by the fire flies. It was like fairy land and something we would never have experienced but for the total darkness.

Another plus is the 'pay as you go' mobile 'phone provided which was such a saving especially as we frequently had to make contact with relatives staying on the island.

For the first week we stayed at Hibiscus, there was nobody in the apartment above so we were able to use the pool which was a luxury.
We loved just sitting outside our apartment looking out to the Caribbean and watching the birds and butterflies and lizards coming and going.

Paul and Gillian are also to be congratulated on their excellent website. I really appreciated the calendar with the available dates. Also their quick response to any e mails I sent. They are very business like in all they do.

This may not be suitable accommodation for anyone with walking difficulties as the road and driveway are very steep. However, if you hire a car, this would help in this respect.

Amazing hotel. Gillian (the owner) and her husband were super friendly and super helpful. I stayed with my sister and brother in the cottage and there was no one in the other apartments so we were allowed free reign of the upstairs and the pool. The cottage has an amazing deck with a grill. The beach is just a short walk away. From what we saw of the biggest apartment it was amazing!! Don't think you'll get a better deal anywhere. the only downside is that it's far off the highway so if ur not driving its a little difficult to get around. I recommend renting a car.

We loved every minute of our stay at Hibiscus Heights! The property is spacious, clean, and well-stocked with every item imagineable for a vacationer. The owners Paul and Gillian are incredible. They are cordial and helpful, but they don't impose themselves on their guests. The caretaker Peggy is lovely. She prepared two delicious meals for us that were better than many of the restaurants in Tobago (although I think it fair to say that all food in Tobago is good food). We have been to Tobago numerous times, but this was our best trip yet. We stayed a week this year, but we are planning on visiting for a whole month next year.
