If you want peace and quiet, great breakfasts with fresh juice and fruit and fabulous birds and flowers to look at while you eat, then this is the place. The beach has the best snorkeling only yards from it and the pool is never busy and very clean. What a refreshing change from the all inclusive hotels on the island. There is no traffic noise, just the waves on the beach and the birdsong. We will return again.

“We got robbed!!!!!!!!!!!!”

My wife and I stayed there and we honestly were robbed in our room. Kimoy, the manager of sorts, seemed to care very little and even told us it happened in November. If you know you have a problem guranteeing the safety of your guests, you should highlight that at check in. Kimoy's response to our theft was that that our room did not have a safe and that she explained at check in that we could leave our money and passports in the main safe.Had she mentioned that this hotel is always being robbed then we would have taken her advice. Everything spiraled down from there, the owner seemed to be taken the incident seriously, however offered little confidence. What really t's me off that I gave Kimoy 15 Pounds to mail all our postcards and no one has recieved one. The food was decent, always salty but we are salt sensitive. The service made us feel that they are doing us a service not the other way around. Security was unseen as my wife was on edge because of our robbery. Stealing our money from postcards was just wrong. I do not recommend this hotel and sloppy standards and loose locks to any fellow Englishman.

We had originally were booked to stay two weeks at Coco Reef Resort, which is nice in a fake feel to it. If we just wanted a beach we could have gone to the Bahamas but we like to experience nature. They had it all, our taxi driver introduced us to the Hotel for snorkeling. The snorkeling was awesome, we saw turtles and stingrays and an amazing reef. The bartender Robert was from Boston and we are currently living in Jersey, we met another local woman who had spent time working in Jersey working there. They were so pleasant that we kept coming back day after day. If we could have pulled out of Coco Reef we would have. They have so many birds that our daughter just loved watching. I highly reccommend this hotel to all nature lovers.

Seldom can any hotel have dropped its standards so quickly under new management than Arnos Vale. This was always a quirky, different hotel with its grandeur of the past still showing through and its beautiful tropical setting of gardens and Caribbean bay still a powerful attraction. What has changed between 2006 and 2007 seems to have been a ruthless drive to cut costs with little regard to the comfort and safety of their guests.

During our week in November a few of the problems that arose are worth telling.

One couple were robbed by someone armed with a knife who entered their room at night and stole money - while they were in the room. Another couple were troubled by an unwanted visitor who tried their door having first turned off the outside security light. After these happening new security staff were recruited but guests were all very unhappy nevertheless. Last year things were different, Albert looked after everyone at night and was ever present along with other security guards both night and day.

A few people tried the restaurant for dinner but seldom went back a second time. It was not so much that Marina the chef could not cook well, she can and is particularly good with fish, but it seems that she has to make do with lower cost ingredients to the point that most dishes became unappetising.

The breakfast selection that had been excellent last year was now stripped down. One or two types of fresh fruit rather than the five or six of last year, two types of tea rather than the dozen or so from before, one type of sweet pastry rather than several last year and all the juices now taste more of chemical than of the fruit they are supposed to have come from.

The pool bar was so sparsely staffed that on some days no-one appeared until about 2pm and on most days they ran out of some basic drinks. The pool itself looked like a health hazard and we only saw one person venture in the whole week. There were bits of debris and so many chemicals that you could not see the first step down into the pool far less the bottom. A new filter was installed and 6 days later the water started to clear but the bottom was still not visible!

The Arnos Vale website advertise the presence of an onsite scuba diving school, which last year provided excellent service. The school left in December 2006.

If it had not been for Marilyn, Monica, Kimoy and Ryan who kept smiling and doing their best to help us and the other guests the holiday would have been near to ruined. However, despite their willing nature and hard work even these stalwarts cannot make up for the ever growing failures in maintenance and the increasing layers of decay and grime. Last year many, including ourselves, could not wait to come back entranced by the place and the way it was run. This year no-one felt they would want to return. It no longer feels safe or clean. It is such as shame because with some investment Arnos Vale could still be a wonderful place to stay.

“Suffering from very bad management”

Arnos Vale Hotel

Nov 21, 2007

We went to the Arnos Vale with my parents, who have been before. They were bitterly dissapointed to see what had become of what was a wonderful hotel. The restaurant was a joke. When we asked to see the wine list we were told "we have white and red!" I asked if they could make a cheese sandwhich for my child with just butter and was told "they come ready made with mayo!" Sadly this dining experience cost us over £200 for four adults and two hungry kids! We simply felt robbed.

The things that attract people to the arnos vale were not there anymore. The managment couldn't care less. They stopped feeding the birds so the birdlife wasn't a patch on what my parents had seen the previous year. Whilst the snorkeling was amazing, the beach was unkempt and quite frankly a danger with broken glass and falling coconuts. The rooms were desperate. The showerhead so scaled you couldn't call it a shower. Our rooms weren't made up as "there is only one key". Fawlty towers comes to mind! On the plus it was so badly run it was laughable.

It is tragically sad that such a place with such potential could get into the state it has.
