“Good quality hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Friendly greeting at reception with the offer of a juice/coconut water/wine as you check in, which welcome after a long flight.
Clean and good quality rooms of the standard you would expect from a Hyatt.
Food service in the bar area was extremely slow, however the supervisor was extremely apologetic, gave us regular updates and removed the price from our bill - so all in all we had no complaints.
Very happy to stay again at the Hyatt when next on the island.

Hotel Reception: Our family arrived (17 in all) and were greeted with wine/juice. Check in was seemless and the staff were very accomodating. Prior to our stay, I had emailed the hotel directly to request rooms with 2 double beds (I had made the reservation via Priceline, which doesn't allow for such requests) and with a prompt reply, I was assured that this would be arranged. Upon arrival, we all requested ocean view rooms which, again, we were easily accomodated.

The rooms were standard. The infinity pool, restaurant, lobby and outdoor spaces were all very comfortable. We utilized the services of the concierge to arrange a tour of the city and a private tour of the Cocoa Research facility. Although the concierge had scant more knowledge than we did with our guide book, he was very eager to help.

We ate at the hotel's breakfast buffet which had an excellent selection of quality local and continental dishes. The buffet dinner seemed pricey for the few selections offered, so we dined using the bar/lounge menu.

Please note that while the hotel is lovely, the city, is not. When booking our family holiday to Trinidad and Tobago I never thought much about crime, however, it's a regular part of daily life in Trinidad. The headline in the newspaper our 1st day "58 murders in the first 43 days of 2013", the next day, the headline about a "human head left at a bar". We inquired around and everyone we met seemed to have a story of a personal crime (robbery, assault) within the past week or two. We were also warned not to stray too far from the hotel.

With this knowledge, there is almost nothing within walking distance unless you want to hire a car. We tried to go to dinner and without renting 4 cabs (there were 17 of us), there was nothing in the area, ESPECIALLY at night. This is not a reflection of the hotel, and at no time did we feel unsafe there, the hotel was excellent.

there is really no choice! Trinidad is not the hottest of Caribbean vacation destinations. If you have come for beaches, go straight to Tobago; this island is an anomaly; it is an industrial site in a sea of vacation destinations. However, if you would like to experence the jewel of this island go straight to this hotel. From the moment you arrive and get a glass of bubbly to the original glassed shower in your room; every corner and moment of your stay will be delightful. the beds and linens are delicious, the bathroom amenities are good quality. Just walk about the lobby and you can get a flavour of the diverse ethnic and cultural mix that marks this island's uniqueness. Even the location next to the port filled with rusting hulls is remarkable.

I love this hotel, and it is one of these reasons I love coming back to the port of Spain.

This is how a good hotel should be.

Well kept, beautiful rooms, good customer service. If money is not an issue, stay here. Good gym, nice pool. Good entertainment area. Friendly staff.

Keep it up.

Of course after having booked this hotel a full year in advance and paid TOP DOLLAR up front and in full at Carnival Time for a deluxe balcony room, I cant say I was surprised when we werent given that room because travellers stusk in Trinidad because of a snow storm took our room rather than moving them to a lesser priced one...I knew something like this was going to happen, Trinidad doesnt have a good reputation anyways, and this did nothing to change that rep...

The hotel said they would refund us the difference and put us in a standard room, really??? What a favor, charging us less for a lesser quality room, what a novel idea...

We got breakfast included and valet service that we refused to pay for...just a little way of making them fix their screw up...

Service was OK at best, some workers were the usual lazy Caribbean people and some were great, if you go you'll know who I mean when I say usually lazy, it will be pretty obvious...hint hint

For the money its OK if you go a regular time and get a standard room...Dont buy food or drinks there if you can avoid it, the prices are ridiculous even for Hyatt standards...

Stayed here for the night after my company's Christmas party, with the 'Take the Elevator Home' package.

The staff is exceptionally helpful, courteous and friendly. I have attended functions at the Hyatt before, and the food is superb. The buffet breakfast is wonderful and you can have a seat on the outside terrace overlooking the water. Additionally there is a small cafe on the ground floor, with some delicious cakes for those with a sweet tooth.

The room itself was well laid out, comfortable and provided all the necessary amenities.

Room Tip: The hotel is located on the docks, ask for a room looking out at the Gulf of Paria.

Best hotel I have have had the pleasure of staying in in years. Have no complaints at all. Room was perfect.

We stayed only one night but the place is really spectacular, the food was amazing and infinity pool is great.

The staff was attentive and friendly and the guy who runs the restaurant was awesome.

At $210 USD a night for a room 20 stories up with a ocean view it's worth spending a few days here and cutting the Tobago portion short.

Room Tip: Get a room with an ocean view and ask to be up high. The views are great.
