Prior to arrival my only communication was with Rosemary by email several times. She was responsive, timely and a great communicator. We arrived in POS after12MN. My family and I did not reach the Gingerbread House until nearly 1AM. I was worried at first as we pulled up in a cab. We rang the "after 10PM" buzzer and Rosemary greeted us. She had waited up for us! That was very impressive. We were placed in the front room with a separate entrance- nice again. However, in AM there were no wash cloths. Upon request, this was rectified. Otherwise the room and attached bathroom had everything my family needed. We were served breakfast daily. The breakfast was satisfying and enough to get me to dinner easily. My only disappointment with breakfast was that it was exactly the same daily x 7. We felt welcomed in the guest house. We had lots of discussion and guidance from Rosemary, Bernadette and Bernard regarding Trinidad. This house is within walking distance of POS shopping and restaurants. We felt safe but must admit we did not venture outside after sunset unless chaperoned by a local. As time progressed in our stay it became clear that we were in a relatively safe environment and there were no detectable differences than some parts of USA. We enjoyed spending time with other house guests from England and Germany later in our visit. We really learnt a lot from them about their individual experiences in their country and their beliefs of USA politics. All of that was intriguing and different from a hotel experience. Departing for the airport seemed as if we were leaving our relatives. Rosemary and family even gave us hugs along with safe travel wishes. The other house guests were quite pleasant as well. I would recommend this guest house for its proximity to town. It is possible to venture out without a car. However, if you are interested in the beaches or checking out other areas a car or taxi is needed. They do have a local bus and taxi line services that can get you from one area to another. It does take time to learn the system and a willingness to ride in a bus or car with strangers. Or, one can take a personal taxi if desired. This a great, warm and charming place to stay. I would stay here again.

My husband and I were in Port of Spain for a few days in May /June2008. Having stayed at the Gingerbread House previously in 2003 we were interested to see if the place was as nice as we remembered or our nostalgia for T&T had tweaked our memory of the place into something more than it really was.

Well it’s confirmed …. this place is indeed lovely beyond words!

We stayed in the room at the back of the house leading from the back of the kitchen. The room was bright and airy, the bed was large, firm and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and spacious. We had stayed in the front room previously in 2003 which from memory, was a little larger and slightly more private with its own outside entrance - probably the more preferable of the 2 but this last room was still also very comfortable.

The house itself has been beautifully restored and renovated, obviously with a lot of sympathy for the character of its era. It’s a charming and gracious place with its own unique and lovely ambiance. The small pool and deck at the back are welcome additions since our last trip in 2003, too small for swimming but perfect for cooling down after some very hot days whilst we were there. I particularly like the veranda with its lush overhanging potted ferns – it’s a cooling and welcoming place to be, particularly when just in from the hot sun.

Rosemary, the owner, is a gem – unobtrusive but extremely helpful and welcoming. Bernadette, her helper, is also a delight with her friendly and helpful personality. They really prove that it’s the people who can make or break an establishment and these 2 lovely ladies certainly helped to make our stay at the Gingerbread House the pleasure it was.

The location is brilliant – it’s just a very short walk to a bank/ATM around the corner and many fabulous restaurants and bars in the Woodbrook area. In fact, we walked each night for dinner and drinks without any hassles. If you’re there for the cricket as we were in 2003 it’s also only a short walk to the Queens Park oval. Downtown Port of Spain is also within walking distance (took us a little under 15 mins) as is the Savannah.

For the price we paid (100USD per night), it’s an absolute bargain.

I can really recommend the Gingerbread House – if you’re after something a lot more special than the usual ‘run-of –the-mill’ hotel or BB experience, then this place is definitely it!

When our family arrived at the Gingerbread House (at midnight!), we received a warm welcome from Rosemary. The rooms were clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Each morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by Bernadette. We would visit with Rosemary & Bernadette, hearing the stories of the island of Trinidad. The pool was refreshing, warm and clean. The front porch, decorated with beautiful furniture, surrounded by tropical ferns was a wonderful place to rest after a day of sightseeing. We realized it was much more special to stay at quaint B&B with a delightful staff in the Port of Spain, rather than a big hotel chain. Much more charm and a great way to embrace the culture. Thank you Rosemary & Bernard.

My girlfriend and I booked 2 nights after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. It was a little pricier than my orginal budget had allowed but it was worth it.
This is a lovely home and the refreshing "pool" in the tranquil, beautifully landscaped backyard, was worth every cent after a hot dusty day in Port of Spain.
Rosemary and Bernard are gracious hosts and it was very interesting talking to them about Trinidad.

We had the double room and it had a small fridge, a soaker tub and enough space for spending the night - though a little cozy if you were to stay all day - though can't imagine why anyone would. Breakfasts are good and the location is perfect as you're close to loads of restaurants and near a major maxi taxt route.

Do check your dates before you go or have them confirmed by E-mail as we had a mix-up on the dates. We almost didn't get the room though the crisis was averted at the last minute.

On arrival there was a mix up. It would appear I told Rosemary the wrong dates! I am a little slow with some of these things.

Anyhow, we stayed in the side room downstairs. A lovely room. With AC and two single beds that join together.

The gingerbread house is a beautiful place to stay, it is a stunning building, and is close to cool restaurant bars such as Coco Lounge and the wine bar More Vino.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole triip. Although the other half slept through breakfast every day, I woke early and Bernadette (the housekeeper) cooked a great breakfast, like nothing I have eaten in the UK!

In the middle of the stay I managed to break the shower, this was dealt with promptly, and after less than a day of bathing using buckets and bowls, it was all repaired, and steamy hot showers resumed!

It is well located, very nice, I would not hesitate to recomment this to any traveller. It is worth noting that the front bedroom is by far the superior one, If I go again I will request this room!

We had a very welcome and comfortable Easter weekend stay at the Gingerbread House. The charming house is well located near the center of the city and within walking distance of attractions and good restaurants. The level of service (travel advice, tickets) and accommodation was higher than expected. The rear garden pool area was a real treat. The Gingerbread House really started our tour of Trinidad & Tobago on the right foot!

We went to Trinidad for the Carnival and were pleased to stay with Rosemary and Bernard at Gingerbread. The location is right in Woodbrook and the Carnival passes the end of the road. Be warned though if you go at Carnival time its very, very noisy, we felt slightly out of place. Everything local is within easy walking distance and locals friendly.

We stayed in the downstairs, newly (almost finished) double room which Bernard designed. The modern wing is at the back and makes a great contrast to the Colonial Main Building. There was a plunge pool which made a welcome relief from the heat and sun deck. We thought Gingerbread was a little jewel in an inner suburb.

Breakfasts were in the main house, lovely and Bernadette was a great cook. Rosemary was so helpful and accomodating, she even helped with our flight and taxi arrangements.

I would definately recommend G.Bread if you love the Carnival as its a perfect location. It was great to stay in such a comfortable and friendly B&B.

Another tip is The Plantation House if you like some fine dining.
