“One superb gallery does not a museum make”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2011

The museum contains an excellent gallery dedicated to Trinidad's sporting history and heroes. They have a lot to be proud of, including Olympic, World and Commonwealth champions, and the gallery does a very good job of showing their triumphs. Unfortunately, the rest of the Museum looks very tired in comparison, with a sometimes confusing collection presented in a very old fashioned way. The Museum is currently undergoing a major refurbishment, so maybe things will change for the better.

“Could be better if they had proper lighting & cleaning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2009

Visiting this museum/art gallery was a disappointment Jan. '09 because the art gallery part was completely closed for renovations with no known completion date. The museum part of the building could me much improved if they put in better lighting to view many of the exhibits at their best, and a little cleaning would be nice. (10+ years of dust accumulation on many exhibits made them look bad.) Also needs some kind of ventilation as there was no A/C or fans to keep the air circulating. Some of the Carnival exhibit needs to be updated because all the costumes seem to date from around 1989 or earlier, hardly representative of what Carnival is like today. The history of steel pan was very good. Also make sure the guards at the door know you are inside. We went on a very slow day & were the only ones inside. Were accidentally locked inside when the guard shut the front doors to prevent rain from blowing inside. When we wanted to leave, no one was around, so we kept shouting until someone finally came to let us out.

“Nice museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2007

A small museum but very interesting if you want to know about the history of Trinidad. It has details about the wildlife of T&T and even some examples of some of the animals that once lived on the island including wild cats and snakes etc.

It also has an interesting insight into the arrivals of all the different peoples of Trinidad including the first Indian arrivals and the first arrivals from Africa and information about slavery in the country. Lots of info about the oil industry and how important it is to the island.

Also has a nice little gallery as well!
