“Quaint and genteel.”

Very informative and relaxed, with pleasant walks and surprising sights and sounds. If you like bird watching and understanding the fauna - go to Asa Wright. You might even find a cool natural pool in the forest to jump in to...

“Eco experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

If u love nature , then this is a place to visit. Serene surroundings, enhanced by lush fauna and flora. One can choose to visit for a few hours or take advantage of a longer stay with accomodation at one of the cabins. A guided tour along the trails exposes one to a variety of local birds and trees. There is also a herb garden which exposes visitors to the types of hurbs used by locals as medicine and in our cuisine. A must see if u are interested in Eco-tourism.

Took Debbie here for her birthday, most memorable! Interesting tour but the most amazing part was having a meal surrounded by humming birds. With it being out pof season we were the only ones eating but the service was just as good. Views down the valley with nothing but trees and deep valleys. Views which locals would have seen 4000 years ago. Arguably the best attraction in Trinidad and Tobago

“Up a long twisty road, in the jungle.”

Lots of good bird watching and trail hikes. Apply mosquito repellent liberally. Humming birds galore. Bring a good camera with a fast lens.

“Perfect for bird watching”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

We try to visit Asa Wright at least once a year. It is a long drive in the hills by local standards, but the isolation helps for the quiet atmosphere for wildlife spotting. If you love hummingbirds, the verandah at the back of the building has loads of hummzingers that the hummingbirds and kiskidees love. They are accustomed to people, and will come within inches of you. At the foot of the stairs, there are strategically planted trees to attract specific birds to the area. The staff lays out fresh fruit to encourage many different species.
The tours have a fee attached and this is the only way visitors can explore the many trails. They are about half an hour long and named after birds like mot-mot and manakin because trees that these birds like are planted along the trails. Be sure to wear long pants and sneakers because you are hiking in the forest.
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The sandwiches at the bar are tasty and the bathrooms clean. There is a little souvenier shop at the side.
