Located in southern Trinidad, this natural wonder is a very interesting geological gem. As the name suggests, it literally is a lake of naturally occuring asphalt. From a distance it looks like a parking lot, however it is constantly moving, bending and folding. It is solid enough to walk on however there are some interesting stories about objects sinking and resurfacing. I recommend hiring one of the local guides and taking a walk over the lake. They are informative and can show you spots that are taffy soft and tell you some of the history of the lake and the area. There are also some pools of warm sulphurous water where you can take a dip. The surface is firm enough that your shoes will not get gooped up with the tar.
