The Cotton House is probably exactly as everyone imagines it - an old colonial building, manicured lawns, pristine beach ...

Rooms
We stayed in an upper Grenadine suites for just over a week. The room is large & spacious. The *really* good points are :
- 2 showers ( one over bath )
- 2 WC's
- Loads of towels ( inc. beach towels )
- The view
- House keeping did a great job kept the room spotless, no matter how hard we tried to mess things up.
The downsides ( and I am being picky ) :
- limited tea / coffee in the room. Seemed a bit stingy not offering complimentary tea / coffee when you're paying ~$1k per night.
- The sofa was starting to look a bit tired / well used.

Food
The beach bar was good for lunch, but watch out for the birds ( they get used to being fed and can be a bit annoying ).
The main restaurant had impecible service - absolutly first class. But, this did feel a bit cold sometimes - it was a lttle *too* formal. The food could sometimes be a bit plain & unispired - I'm sure my wife's curry was from a tin / packet one night. Better food can be found at Firefly.
Breakfasts are great whether served in your room or in the restaurant.
Picnic - we had one on the beach one day. It was fantastic - a good seection of food & drink, kept on ice to keep it fresh & cool. If you're staying here have one !

We didn't use the spa, so I can't comment on it.

The beach was spotless with sun loungers reserved for the guests ( you can pick anyone, you don't have to have the one with *your* room on it ). Drinks service from the bar was quite regular and not at all intrusive.

Would we go again ? Absolutely.

My wife and I just returned from a five night stay at the Cotton House. We stayed in a Gardenia Suite and the accommodations were excellent. The air-conditioning unit for the living room didn't work when we arrived but when we pointed out the problem the manager sent a repairman to fix it while we were at dinner. The resort is first class and the service could not have been better. The food was good but not great. We actually enjoyed the lunches at the beachside restaurant better than dinner in the main house. The lunches had more pizzazz. The hotel's guests tended to be couples who more or less kept to themselves which suited us just fine. While I understand things liven up in December, Mustique is a quiet place in November and if your goal is a lot of nightlife I would go somewhere else. The beach by the hotel is very nice and was usually almost empty. The snorkeling right at the hotel's beach was very good. The island itself is beautiful. We rented "mules" (like golf carts) and traveled around the island. The Atlantic side beaches were empty and gorgeous. The island is owned by the villa owners (its like a very fancy homeowners' association) so it is pristine if maybe a little unreal. If you want a very luxurious quiet beach vacation in a great setting, try the Cotton House.

Mustique is a beautiful island and the people, locals and villa owners alike, very warm and friendly. We flew here on a small plane from Barbados, fun flight and cute little airport!

We had originally tried to stay at the Firefly but they were fully booked so we booked at the Cotton House Hotel. The CH hotel is actually owned by the island and leased out to a managment company. You can kind of feel this in that there is no personal touch to it and the staff, although they certainly tried, seem a bit 'off', it's a little bit corporate. We regret not waiting to book at the Firefly (I guess there is a reason they are so booked up!) because we ended up spending most of our evenings there. It would have sutied us mcuh better in that it is privatley owned and has a fun and warm atmosphere that the Cotton House lacks.

Mustique is fantastic, I highly recomend the island, but I would say the Cotton House is better sutied to older, more (dare I say it ) sedate couples or people with young children. Althought there was nothing wrong and I don't want to critisize, we would have much prefered to stay at Firefly and certainly will next time. CH just wasn't really for us.

“Perfection”

THE ISLAND
When you live in one of the most beautiful places in the world you become quite hard to please and reluctant to get on not one but two planes for nine hours. However Mustique is perfection. the island is beautiful. totally unspoilt. Beaches are stunning. Beaches for every need boogie boarding, snorkelling, blah blah ...

THE HOTEL
Elegant and very stylish yet informal and relaxed.. Dress up or down it doesn't matter The service/staff are on a par with Ritz Paris. We stayed for a week and like three other couples that were staying there we did all we could to extend our stay...much to all our disappointment none of us could get flights...I suppose that says it all really..nobody wanted to leave...

In reference to the other reviewer....it's hard to believe that someone else would find the hotels gym facility "pretty basic". Spacious, airconditioned, life fitness equipment etc...I don't know what they need....But perhaps they are the sort of people who'd stay at the Sandy Lane and love it?!

THE FOOD
Breakfast...excellent. My husband is not a breakfast kinda man but he ate breakfast with me everday it that good.
The hotels beach bar is just like it should be. Some of the best Lobster I've ever had.
House wine is very good
We didn't really need evening meals but found the food in the restaraunt to be okay to not so good.. But then other people found it to be fantastic..

THE ROOMS
Very beautiful but watch out for the noisy ones...Sunset is probably the room we'd want if we went back..like our room it had its own pool but it was totally private and a bit further away from air con noise...

OVERALL
It was perfection for us...a relaxed, intimate luxurious hotel on a very beautiful unspoilt and quiet island ..We really can't fault it and will be back.

“Luxury in Mustique”

The Cotton House

I have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Cotton House in Mustique with my girlfriend. We thoroughly enjoyed the island of Mustique. It is very private and has virtually no commercialism and it is extremely safe. These are the reasons we went and would return.

The Cotton House is very nice overall and for the most part has excellent service. The two main deficiencies, we felt, were in the Spa facility and the quality of the food. The Spa is not well run and the gym which is in the same building is very basic. One may want to opt out of their meal plan too (we had several meals at neighboring FireFly, the other resort on the island, despite having prepaid for our meals at Cotton House).

This is a pricey resort, but Mustique is a wonderful get away. Would suggest looking into Firefly carefully when evaluating where to stay.
