We attended The Fig Tree on 'Fish Friday', We began with crab backs and stuffed bakes for starters. We had read that the crab backs sometimes run out early, so we made sure to order them right away with the drinks. For the main course, we decided on the Seafood Plate consisting of conch, lobster and marlin served with breadfruit salad, garden salad, Caribbean rice and vegetables. The breadfruit salad, very similar to a potato salad, was especially nice.
Service had its difficulties for some of the patrons as at least one of the wait staff was absent and a new server was being trained on a night when this establishment fills its tables. It’s unfortunate that some diners left because of the long wait time, but they did miss out on some fabulous food. Because we were literally the first to order, we had actually eaten, drank and paid the bill by the time the table next to us with 3 English couples began to get their dinners. This would be the only fault I could mention, and as I mentioned before, they were short-staffed with a new girl being trained that same evening.
We were lucky with the new trainee, Brunelle, who I have to say, did well despite being thrown to the wolves on her first day of work. Though she’d omitted a couple of items on the final bill, we did not take advantage of this and discreetly helped her correct the oversight.
The quality of the foods was excellent, the portions satisfactory. We noted that Sheryl, the owner, came by each table to personally welcome patrons to her establishment. She also took an active role in serving and assisting customers throughout the evening. There was also live entertainment provided that fit well with the atmosphere and allowed conversations to be had.
