“Fish Friday at the Fig Tree”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

We attended The Fig Tree on 'Fish Friday', We began with crab backs and stuffed bakes for starters. We had read that the crab backs sometimes run out early, so we made sure to order them right away with the drinks. For the main course, we decided on the Seafood Plate consisting of conch, lobster and marlin served with breadfruit salad, garden salad, Caribbean rice and vegetables. The breadfruit salad, very similar to a potato salad, was especially nice.

Service had its difficulties for some of the patrons as at least one of the wait staff was absent and a new server was being trained on a night when this establishment fills its tables. It’s unfortunate that some diners left because of the long wait time, but they did miss out on some fabulous food. Because we were literally the first to order, we had actually eaten, drank and paid the bill by the time the table next to us with 3 English couples began to get their dinners. This would be the only fault I could mention, and as I mentioned before, they were short-staffed with a new girl being trained that same evening.

We were lucky with the new trainee, Brunelle, who I have to say, did well despite being thrown to the wolves on her first day of work. Though she’d omitted a couple of items on the final bill, we did not take advantage of this and discreetly helped her correct the oversight.

The quality of the foods was excellent, the portions satisfactory. We noted that Sheryl, the owner, came by each table to personally welcome patrons to her establishment. She also took an active role in serving and assisting customers throughout the evening. There was also live entertainment provided that fit well with the atmosphere and allowed conversations to be had.

Fish Friday is a dining event in Bequia not to be missed. Reservations are a must. Fish Friday dinner begins at 7:00 p.m.

“Best ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

It has been a while since I went to Mrs. Johnson's fig tree. We went there last christmas and I just did not make it to write a review about this amazing place. For sure it was one of the highlights during our caribbean island trip. The food is awesome and the best things ever are the fresh juices. This was the only place, where we could have fresh pressed exotic fruit juices!
Beyond the good food, Mrs. Johnson is such a lovely person! She welcomed every guest personally. Go and enjoy dinner there!

“A Must Visit for Atmosphere + Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

I fell in love with the Fig Tree, not only for the fresh fish but also because of the owner, gregarious Miss J who knows just about everything going on in Bequia. When I dropped by one afternoon, I found her trimming the hedges and greeting the schoolchildren that passed this informal, waterfront restaurant. (She runs a Saturday-morning children's reading group and is also she can be heard at 8 am every day on “Cruiser's Net,” a VHS marine radio program updating cruisers who found a dinghy, where to purchase sail ties, and whether to expect gale force winds. Friday evening is the best time to stop by, when it's all about Fish Friday, when it's fish served in myriad ways. My favorite spot for dining was outside at one of the brightly-hued picnic tables and watching the boats anchored offshore. And don't miss the chocolate samosa. (I'm a chocoholic and this was intensely chocolatey with a wonderfully flaky crust.)

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

My wife and I had a meal on a Saturday evening, and although the food was good, the atmosphere was non existent. Cheryl indicated we should have eaten the previous night, Fish Friday !! It was a pity because of the lack of people eating, we were the only ones, made the atmosphere very cold,it certainly seemed an "after the Lord Mayors Show" evening.
