Owner description: The Botanical Gardens are one of the most important and popular sites in St Vincent. They are the oldest botanical gardens in the Western Hemisphere (established in 1765) and are also an important conservation site (particularly for the St Vincent parrot). “Botanic Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2006

We visited the Botanical gardens last month in St.Vincent. It wasn't planned and to be honest we really thought it wasn't our thing! But Mr Daniels who took us around was fantastic, he made our visit and he promised it would be fun - and it certainly was! His impressions were really funny too.

Take plenty of water as it was boiling hot when we went and lots of sun cream. Definately get Mr Daniels to take you around as we think he has a place on site - guaranteed to make you laugh.

We also enjoyed spanking the grass!! No we're not kidding - spank the grass Mr Daniels tells you too and watch it close up - Amazing!!

“The Ambience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2006

This Botanical is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. It contains the very first breadfruit tree brought to the Caribbean by Captain Bligh. This garden is a reflection of the country - well maintained, beautiful and inviting. Nature calls to you as soon as you step through the gates. There are exotic plants and wildlife, some of which can be found nowhere but St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It's an experience you will never regret!

“Oldest, and best, Botanic Gardens in the Caribbean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2006

The best Botanic Gardens that I have been to in the Caribbean, although it is nearly 15 years since my last visit. Very well maintained and extremely colourful. It isn't essential to have a guide, but I did and found him very informative - he knew a great deal about all the plants. Please bear in mind that Saint Vincent is a very poor country with a high rate of unemployment and that these men are trying to earn an honest living.

“Oldest Botanical Gardens in the Western Hemisphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2002

The Bontanical Gardens are located just outside of Kingstown proper. They are easy to get around and look at yourself. It takes about a half hour to tour. But beware, you will be approached by young men on entering to be your "tour guide" when none is needed. All trees and plants are explained in english and it is a nice stroll. Be sure to view "Vincy" the St. Vincent parrot which is an endangered spieces.
