My wife and I chose PSV for our 10 year anniversary trip. We had read all about it on Trip Advisor as well as other websites. With three young children, we were really looking forward to getting away by ourselves and relaxing. PSV is a beautiful place, but getting there takes some work. We had to overnight in Barbados and catch the small airplane to Union Island, all of which took about a day and a half. Once there, we were disappointed that they had put us in a beachside cottage, as we knew from our research that these were close together and lacked privacy. Nothing else was available until the next day, so we spent one night in the beachside cottage. Something people should be aware of is that the cottages do not have air conditioning, but if you leave your windows, shutters and drapes open you do get a nice breeze (or depending on the cottage it can be like living in a wind tunnel). However, the sun comes up around 5:30 am and the birds start chirpping LOUDLY. So, expect to be up early everyday. Early morning coffee is a must. In each cottage is a book of order forms (Early Coffee, Breakfast, Lunch, and Tea, the Dinner Form is brought on request). To make it simple we filled them out the night before. We had Coffee, Breakfast, Lunch and Tea delivered to the cottage and got cleaned up and dressed for dinner, which was like going out for dinner every night. The food is excellent, yet somewhat exoitic or gourmet. If your tastes are for more standard food you might not enjoy the Champagne Sorbet or the escargot. I personally liked the food. They served a fillet mignon I could literally cut with a fork, and one day I had lobster with every meal. Probably their greatest failing on food was dessert. It typically sounded better than it tasted (Guiness flavored ice cream is really not so good).
As for things to do on PSV, if you scuba dive, go out with Glenroy Adams at Grenadine Dives. He is very professional and a really nice guy. If you don't dive, I would suggest chartering the Jumbalya or the speed boat and go snorkeling and exploring. Do something, because you will get bored after about 3 days. I did not think I would, but I did. We went diving for two days in the middle of our stay and it was great.
Leaving PSV is a pain. The boat takes you to the airport on Union Island just fine, but once there, Grenadine Airlines tells you that there is a weight limit for each passenger of 44 lbs of luggage total. They don't tell you that on the way down, they wait until you have acquired more stuff to tell you. Then they want to charge you $1.00 per every pound over. Not a big price, but just a nuisance. I hate being nickle and dimed and had wished someone had warned me ahead of time. Then you wait on the flight which is late. Then you leave and stop at a couple of other islands before getting to Barbados. Not a good way to end the vacation.
When I returned to work, a co-worker asked me if I would go back. I told her that PSV is listed on some Top 20 list of places to go at number 13; I would recommend PSV to anyone; however I think I want to see what number 12 is like.
