We stayed at the Oualie Beach resort in mid-April. Although we arrived early, the courteous and friendly front desk staff made a room available quickly. All we had to do was enjoy a complimentary rum punch at the bar while we waited.

We had a very nice beachfront room with a queen bed in one of the "dual" gingerbread style cabins, which luckily was not inhabited with anyone next door. The location of the hotel is great, right on a nice beach with a beautiful view of the sunset at night. The rooms were spacious and clean. Our's had a queen bed which was quite comfortable. For air one has the option of screens and a ceiling fan or air conditioning. The bathroom was small but adequate, with a shower that had low water pressure and extremely hot water if you weren't careful. Bathroom towels were skimpy, worn and frayed, but the nice beach towels made up for them. Hammocks and chaise lounges on the beach were perfect for reading or enjoying the beach. There are lots of activitites if you choose - we didn't opt for any of them but they looked like fun...

A REAL disappointment was the food and beverage service. Overall the food was of mediocre quality and poor value for the money . We would strongly recommend eating elsewhere like at the Galleypot down the way. We made the mistake of choosing the Tuesday night bbq written up in various publications. To say the least, we were EXTREMELY disappointed. For $45.00 US we did not expect to have the kitchen run out of food which they did or to have the poor variety of food choices. There was a decently cooked but small steak and 4 grilled shrimp per person, but the remaining food choices of chicken, overcooked fish and poorly prepared vegetables were mediocre at best. The seafood soup was the best part of the meal. No dessert, no drinks included. SKIP IT! We cruised around the island and there are plenty of cute and enjoyable restaurants elsewhere. We also enjoyed the beachfront bar down at Nesbit and the beautiful surroundings of the Relais and Chateaux Plantation Inn..

Overall an enjoyable experience, and we'd return to the hotel, but skip the food.

“liked Oualie”

We stayed at Oualie last June and love the experience. As previously mentioned, the place is at a great location with a very helpful staff. The dinners and lunches at Oualie were amazing, thanks to Chef Jason and his team. Everyone was helpful and the taxi drivers are a wealth of information! It amazed me that none of the drivers took money for a cab ride until they picked us up for the return ride to the hotel. Wow! Not in Virginia!!:) We are going back this June and can't wait to be there. I look forward to more exploration of the island. Also, we have upgraded our room at Oualie. While it is nothing like the 4S, it is very charming and the staff is so helpful and they do make an effort to know your name. It is warm and friendly. My only complaint with our room last year was the bathroom...too small. We are staying in, I believe, a premiere suite/room. In the summer, the rates are much lower so it is very afforadable. I'll let you know what I think upon return!

Just returned from an 8 day vacation at Oualie Beach Resort. Fabulous! We would usually stay at a resort like The Four Season or Nesbit( and figured if we didn't like it we could go somewhere else)but we LOVED Oualie! No, it is not the Four Seasons, but a resort that is a wonderful group of beach bungalows that line the beautiful shore. We were traveling with our children(11 and 8) and rented adjoining rooms. The kids had a blast and were never bored. Chef Jason and his staff at the Resort restaurant were terrific. The food was amazing! Had dinner at Coconut Grove and Nesbit Plantation,(they were good) but no better than the meals than at Oualie. Jason came out to the tables every evening to make sure all was well. The bar at Oualie is not to be missed. Quiet some nights, but more often full of locals and tourists enjoying live music, awsome sunsets and really great company. My children got up several times to join the band. Thanks Goldfish Nicole says Hi! The staff was friendly and attentive. We did a bike tour with Reggie from Nevis Cycle (right at the resort) he was great with the kids. Congrats on winning the triathalon on Saturday! The marine biologist at Oualie was awesome. She took us out on a snorkle trip to St. Kitts. I highly recommend it. Also met an interesting man named Watussi, a musician who grew up on the island. He took us on a tour on the entire island, including a hike in the rain forrest. It was great. We never had any problems with noise( an occasional bark in the distance at night)we slept with all the windows open to enjoy the beautiful breeze. The weather was perfect! We made more friends on this trip than any other I can remember. The people of Nevis are warm and friendly. We will be back very soon!

Just returned from a 5-night stay at Oualie Beach Resort. Definitely some pros and cons at this place:

Pros: friendly staff, informal atmosphere, nice swimming beach

Cons: Some of the units are quite close together and if you have rowdy neighbors, which we did, it can be annoying. Two nights in a row I had to call the front desk as our neighbors were up drinking and talking loudly until late in the night. One day there was some renovation or construction going on at a neaby property and the sound of the power tools made me think I was sitting in the dentist chair getting my teeth drilled. Finally, at various points during the day, I would hear a dog barking loudly at another property for long periods of time. Most of the time things were quiet and serene, but when it was noisy, I found myself questioning my choice of hotels.

Despite all the photos on the internet it is always hard to get an idea of where the rooms are.
Oualie has a front row and a back row of buildings. They are staggered so each has a view of the water. We were given a back row room but asked for and was given a front row room. Made me wonder. The back row appear to be a mix of small and larger units. It is about 100 feet from the water. The front row is about 50 feet from the water. The front row buildings are left/right duplexes. We thought they were better shaded and had better views than the back row. We stayed in Cockle Shell which is the last front row building from the reception/restaurant/bar area. It was a queen bed studio with refrigerator but no kitchenette. This is not a loud resort by any means but our neighbors in sand Dollar agreed that our end was quieter and had fewer people walking past. Cockle Shell has a somewhat better view than Sand Dollar. Here is the front row list from the far end to the restaurant end: Sand Dollar/Cockle Shell, Trade Winds/Sea Breeze, Mahoe Reef/Coral Point, Coral Gardens/Sheila Shoal, Lobster Walk/? (no name on door). 50 feet beyond our duplex was a two story unit which I think had four units in it. You can see it in the first photo. It was set back somewhat from the front row but did not have buildings in front of it.
