“Local Seaside Dinning on St. Kiits”
Was asked a waiter at another restaurant for a place to go that the locals enjoy. He directed us to Sprat Net at Old Road Town. As advised, we went on a Wednesday night when thay have a live band that starts at 8:00 (or so). They use real grills to prepare their local seafood and pork rib choices. The menu is made daily depending upon what was brought in that day. We had choices that included lobster, shrimp, whole snapper, ribs and even grilled pizza. We chose the lobster, ribs and whole snapper. All were excellent. The warm water lobster is not as sweet as Maine's, but grilled lobster is still delicious. The snapper was grilled to perfection and was served with a broth that we couldn't have enough of. (the snapper is served whole - including the head and tail ( a warning for those who don't want to get so "personal" with their fish). The seating is on picnic tables set up in the open air shelter or seaside. The seaside tables are lined up along the raised rocky shore wall about 10 feet above the waves. Since Old Road Town is on the west side of St. kitts - the sunset possibilities are great (we had clouds at the horizon on our visit). The meals were served by very friendly staff who took great care of us. The cost is very reasonable - especially for St. Kitts. The meals run about $25 per person - we added some wonderfully cold Carib beers to compliment to whole night. The band was local and really good (it was a reggae band our night). For those going to St. Kitts that aren't incumbered by the schedules of the cruise ships, we highly recommend Sprat Net - you can miss it. Look for the yellow sign on the west side of the main road just as you enter town.
