“Beautiful View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

I stayed at this hotel for one night. I thought the view at night as well as the day, was stunning. The staff was very friendly and accomidating. The rooms were a bit out dated but very comfortable with all ameities I needed. i understand from the staff that the hotel is in the process on renovation over the summer. I will recomend a stay to others.

Room Tip: choose a room on the water-side. No extra cost.

My partner and I stayed towards the end of March - about five weeks before the hotel was due to close for 6+ months for renovations. We had a great time and were particularly impressed by how well they were managing their imminent temporary closure - still very perky and well motivated staff!

No doubt about it, it is in need of an overhaul - the property was certainly a bit frayed at the edges - but it has an awful lot going for it and I would certainly consider staying there again in the future.

The staff was wonderful! You could not ask for a nicer place to stay. The restaurant was not due to open till 11:30, but may daughter had to leave at 12:30 and at 11:00 they were kind enough to go ahead and fix her lunch. most places would not do that for you. The food was great.

Stayed one night only while passing through, but we really enjoyed the hotel, which sprawls over a hillside just on the edge of town. The grounds are lovely and the rambling pool tucked in between the tropical garden plants is perfect for relaxing. We stayed in one of the more basic rooms, which we still thought comfortable, clean, and it had a nice little table with chairs on the small porch in front, where we could appreciate the views to the sea. Sure there were little things in the room like the knob came off a drawer when I pulled it, and the tv took a little convincing to work, but do these things really matter when you are on holiday in the Caribbean? The hotel is being renovated soon as well, to sort out these little issues. I also agree with other reviewers about the excellent staff at OTI, which was a very pleasant surprise as customer service on the islands can often be lacking. Every staff member I met was pleasant, friendly, and communicative, especially the receptionist who helped me solve a booking problem of my own fault. Absolutely would stay there again.

Stayed 5 nights at end of March and loved the location and character of the hotel.

True there are signs now is time for an upgrade and I would really like to return when this is complete as the positive attitude of the staff, current location and an upgraded structure should produce a winning formula.

Seldom have I met a more dedicated management team with such a focus on customer satisfaction whilst recognizing current shortfalls.

We look forward to our return and wish you future success.

Room Tip: If you have a problem respectfully mention this on site to the management.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

I stayed at the OTI for four days and I have mixed feelings. This is a place that could be so much better.

First the good. The location is fine for access to town. Being elevated there are wonderful views of the port and Nevis in the distance. The property is unique in that it is on three or four different levels and has a really nice wandering pool in a tropical setting. I found this to be a good point although there are lots of steps. The other two pools are fine but nothing special. The staff were adequate and I did not find them particularly friendly. The room was spacious, the air conditioning, shower and television worked good.

The bad. My room was probably a lot better than most, judging by the Tripadvisor pictures, but the bathroom had some dirt and stains that can only be fixed with some deliberate focused work. The safe in my room needs adjustment as the door would not stay closed unless it was locked and the CNN channel went dark every evening. There was no privacy curtain so you had to keep the curtains closed and that made the room dark. The air conditioner was very loud until i discovered, on the last day, it could be quieted by using a slower fan speed.
My greatest disappointment was the food and service at all restaurants. The premier restaurant is located on the water and we experienced the absolute slowest service possible. Event drinks took nearly 20 minutes - for beer! The food was nothing special which added to a dismal experience. When I arrived, I was ready for some decent island cooking. What was available were hamburgers cooked next to the pool. Lunch at the main restaurant was no feast either, expensive and unimaginative. The breakfast was pretty good but suffered from slow service although the staff were attentive. Avoid the Eggs Benedict at all costs. The only respite was a trip to the Serendipity next door. Expensive, but really good food.

The sign in the lobby says that the property will be closed for most of the year for renovations that are probably overdue. I would hope that the staff will get some retraining as well and this must focus on culinary talents.

In summary, I could live with the minor problems with the room but not with slow service and a less than stellar menu.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms on the upper levels have fantastic views to die for.

Thank you so very much for your frank and honest review. We appreciate your time and we want to let you know that this Review has helped us get back on track to providing the best possible service for our guests.

As you mentioned the hotel is closing to the public on May 1st for renovations and we agree that this is overdue. However having said that, there is no excuse for every guest room to be spotlessly clean. We have made adjustments to the safe in your room for future guests and we are currently talking to the cable company about adding a variety of additional channels including having CNN available 24/7.

We were sorry to read that you were disappointed with the food and service at our restaurants. The Fisherman’s Wharf has recently re-opened after refurbishment and we are still training and working with the staff to improve the speed of service, and already we see great improvements in that area. We want you to know that we are working diligently to provide the best food and beverage service in St Kitts, all at affordable prices.

Our aim is to re-open the hotel in December 2014 as a 4 star hotel with 10 star service and we hope that you will have the opportunity to return to the Ocean Terrace Inn sometime in the future to enjoy the changes and the improvements that will have been made.

Enjoyed the facilities, everyone very friendly. Was surprised to here they are closing this year for renovations. I saw a few things that could be updated, definitely nothing looked like the whole facility needed closed. Look forward to staying again next year.
