This hotel is dire. I arrived to find that my patio doors could not be opened because they had come out of the track. A day or so later, the lock on my door would not open. This happened every other day. The food was awful. The sofa in the bar was falling to pieces and was filthy. The only good point was the staff who were incredible. Eventually, I checked out and upgraded to the Marriot.
I did try to give it no stars but the system will not let me

The hotel is extremely tired and in dire need of re-furbishment, and definitely not worthy of a 3 star rating. We have stayed at many 3 star properties in the Caribbean, in Barbados, St Lucia, Tobago and Antigua over the last few years, and based on this experience, it wouldn't even rate 2 stars! As usual, we booked the all-inclusive option, as we have never had any problems with food quality etc. However, Sugar Bay is a different animal. The food is of an extremely low standard with little choice, the salad bar is stocked with very little, and what there is is limp and uninviting. We attempted dinner 3 times unsuccessfully and ended up eating out apart from breakfast (it's difficult to mess up given that you make the toast yourself!). Lunch is supposed to be served from 12 to 3pm at the poolside bar, and on two occasions we went to eat at just after 2pm to find there was nothing left. When I asked if more food would be coming, I was told it was all finished. I complained to reception and from then on there was an option of hamburger or fish and chips to order - hardly a healthy option!

The bar is supposed to be open from 10am until 12 midnight, but on several occasions when we tried to get a drink after 10.30 or so, it was closed! There was no entertainment to speak of, a guy with an electric piano showed up a couple of times and that was it, apart from a television at the side of the stage. The bar itself was totally uninviting, with most of the chairs broken, the carpet badly stained and torn, and a hole in the ceiling!

We were fortunate in that a friend of ours works at the Marriott nearby and has a car, so we could escape from Sugar Bay and explore the beautiful island of St Kitts, but I felt sorry for families who booked expecting a self-contained resort with facilities for children and entertainment in the evenings.

Our room was adequate and quite large, with thankfully very efficient air conditioning, but each morning for the first week the maid banged on the door at about 8.15 to make up the room! Needless to say, I put her straight on that one. There was no hotel services guide etc in the room, when we asked at reception we were told that they were at the printers. We had to find out mealtimes etc. by trial and error. We found a dead gecko on our floor and obviously expected it to be removed on the maid's next visit - it took 10 days!

Despite the failings with the property, the staff were the friendliest we have encountered anywhere, and manage to smile and be extremely helpful despite working in such a run down property.

The Sugar Bay seems tired and rather lacking in management. The staff are friendly. It serves the purpose of providing a large clean room - 2 clean pools and access to the beach but not much more - very quiet too. Just don't have great expectations.

We were room only and only ate breakfast at the hotel - the continental was OK. (There isn't anyhwere else to have breakfast!).

It's handy for beach bars at Timothy Bay (10 minute walk max) and we ate at them most nights or took a taxi elsewhere on the Island.

There's stuff to do on St Kitts - but we much preferred Nevis - quieter, more comfortable, better beaches - good food. Stayed there for 5 lovely nights at the Hermitage Plantation Inn - highly recommended.

My partner and myself have just arrived back from a two week holiday where we spent the first week in antigua and second week in st kitts accomidation being the sugar bay club which we stayed on an all inclusive basis.
On arrival we were greeted by very nice reception staff, and from outside the hotel it seemed very nice. upon arrival to our cottage which was located at the far end of the complex, we were dissapointed with how unkept the gardens were as most of the grass area located around the cottages was dead and straw like.
Upon entering our room we noticed that the floor throughout the cottage was very dirty and had obviously not been swept or mopped for that matter, and the windows were literally that dirty that you could not see out of them. The room was running alive with ants and small flea like bugs which were crawling out of the skirting boards.
The beach was unkept with litter and seaweed everywhere which put us off returning throughout our stay.
The buffet meals were tasteless and overcooked with very little variety. It was vertially impossible to get a drink from the bar after 11pm as the bar staff would refuse to serve you as they wanted to go home for the evening (although it states that the bar is open until 12pm)
Overall it was horrible, dirty, unkept and was a total waste of money in my opinion.
St kitts is a lovely island overall with very friendly people so i would reccomend visiting the island. BUT STAY CLEAR OF THE SUGAR BAY CLUB!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at St. Kitts March 26-April 2. The hotel itself is a little run down, the rooms could definitely use some updating. However, the food was fantastic, they say there are 2 restaurants but its actually 1. In the morning you eat at the breakfast buffet and then lunch on the patio and dinner is served in the same place as breakfast. They have a different soup for both dinner and lunch and they were always delicious! And the main dishes were always perfect. The staff was great everyone was always pleasant and friendly. Yasmine who works at the restaurant is one of the nicest people we ever met just a wonderful woman who always made sure we were happy!! The one complaint we had was the hotel was soo quiet, there were only 3 other couples at the whole resort!! St. Kitts is a beautiful place, definitely recommend the rain forest/volcano hike its a wonderful experience! And the Catamaran snorkeling cruise was a blast. There is not much in the way of nightlife we liked to walk down to the Marriott at night for the casino which is about a 8 minute walk from Sugar Bay. Timothy Beach which is about a 10 minute walk where you will find a bunch of small bars/restaurants, Cathy's chicken was absolutely delicious but be prepared to wait!!
