This is not a fancy place by any means. My husband and 3 of our kids stayed here for 5 days. We had a great time. The hotel staff was warm and friendly. They even cooked the fish that the boys brought in from a day of deep sea fishing for our dinner! The pool was clean and the chair cushions and umbrellas must have been new. We enjoyed sitting at the pool bar and chatting with the bartenders. The food at Jasmine's was ok, but I cook a lot so our expectations were high. We found much better food at Rock Lobster. There is a path to the beach and if you want to go at night, bring a flashlight. I had a small one because I carry it with me on all trips! The people on the beaches are wonderfully friendly and one group of local kids invited my daughter to play volleyball with them. She did and they had a wonderful time!! Her team won too! That was funny because all the other players were guys and she was scoring points. Anyway, the kids really enjoyed the beaches, fishing, going to Nevis, scuba diving and going into town. The front desk people were great in helping us to set up all of our adventures. The place does need a little work. The screen and glass doors were a little hard to open and the bathroom needed some new calk and a new shower head. We never ran out of hot water though. One day we were only given 2 clean towels for the 5 of us, but I think that was just an honest mistake because the rest of the time it wasn't an issue. I suggest bringing your own shampoo and conditioner because what they give you is only enough to wash the shortest of hair. A/C was excellent. Coffee in the room every morning. Very quiet place. Clean pool. Had a great pool view where the staff would greet us in the mornings as they passed our balcony going to work. If you want fancy rooms, someone to carry your luggage and gourmet meals this is not the place. If you are okay with a Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, easy beach access and a bill that is 1/3 to 1/4 the price of fancy then this might work for you.

“The worst hotel I've ever stayed in”

Frigate Bay Resort

OK so those are not my own words but those of a fellow guest after his first night at the Frigate Bay and I could see why. The place is shabby and the rooms very dated. The beds (two small doubles) seem as if they must be the original ones installed when the place was built, the bedlinen likewise and the bathroom tatty brown, chipped formica also very 80s. Having said that, the bedroom and bathroom were very clean, plenty of hot water and our room was on the top floor, pool facing, very spacious with a good view. Oh I didn't mention the pillows - bring your own!! And don't rely on these beds for a romantic time, my husband & I ended up sleeping in separate beds!! The door to our room looked as if it had previously been broken into and the lock itself seemed flimsy so we left our valuables in the safe deposit boxes at reception. Which brings me to the reception - not at all welcoming and don't ask politely if they have a kettle you could use - they "don't have no kettles" so you'll have to use the in-room coffee maker to boil water. They won't offer to help you with your luggage either, although a pleasant gardener offered to wheel our cases when were leaving.

The previous reviewer has mentioned the path to the beach which is slippery and unlit so be warned. Also there is a nice ridge in the concrete around the pool where you can regularly watch people tripping up. Having said that it is a lovely, good-sized pool. The sunloungers & umbrellas are shabby, be careful of the threadbare umbrella which offers no protection from the sun.

On the positive side the FBR has a lovely setting and was fairly quiet when we were there. The restaurant seemed OK to us and the staff there were pleasant & friendly. There is a weekly barbecue but it's a shame they don't bother to publicise it. There seem to be so many missed opportunities at this place, it really could do with some TLC so I can only think the owners don't have the money to update it. In spite of the above comments we did enjoy our week there, once we'd got accustomed to the place. However when we left no-one asked if we'd enjoyed our stay and I can see why.

“Rather disappointing”

We stayed at the Frigate Bay Hotel for two weeks in March, We paid £800 extra for an evening meal each night (for two) and were given food vouchers by the hotel. When we presented them in the restaurant, we were told we could only have plain salad or lentil soup, followed by chicken or fish (the cheapest on the menu). We were furious and saw the rep and it was sorted out, but why it happened we do not know. There are plenty of restaurants near to the hotel and people were having lobster at a very reasonable price whereas we could not have it, in spite of there being three lobster dishes on the menu - we were told it was not available!!! I would strongly recommend you book a room only (which was a good value deal) - don't bother with the meals at all. There are plenty of available restaurants near at hand and there is a kettle and fridge in the room if you want to have breakfast or just go over to the restaurant and choose your own. Take a torch with you as the path to the beach/and many restaurants is very dark. We made a few trips and enjoyed the holiday. Cockleshell beach is by far the best and well worth a visit. The rooms were spacious and we had one of the best (a side room) overlooking the golf course and ocean.

“Reasonable stay, but much to be improved....”

Frigate Bay Resort

Apr 7, 2008

Having read previous reviews, we had high expectations of the Frigate Bay Resort, which unfortunately it didn't really live up to.

The pool is nice, the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable and the breakfast staff are friendly, but the hotel is in need of a lot of refurbishment and updating, the reception and bar staff were a waste of space (not helpful and not friendly), the beach is nice but down a perilous track that should have been properly paved and there were some nasty fish smells that lingered about the place. It was worrying to see the under water lamps in the pool that seemed to be hanging out of their sockets!!

The location of the hotel is quite good with some decent restaurants nearby, although you still require a taxi to get to a lot of places.

Overall, it's cheap, we had a reasonable stay, but wouldn't recommend it particularly to anyone....

“disappointing service”

Frigate Bay Resort

Mar 15, 2008
7/7 found this review helpful

After reading such great reviews of the Frigate Bay Resort on Trip Advisor, we were really disappointed by the staff there. We are "low-key" Americans and don't have high expectations so it was really surprising to be treated so poorly.

The positives were that the resort was decent, pool was beautiful and the location was great - a 4 minute walk to the beach and restaurants.

There were 4 people in reception and not one of them said hello or welcome. When we gave our names, there were all kinds of muttering and whispering between the staff. Apparently there was some confusion about our room? I asked if we could have a 2nd or 3rd floor room as I had requested online AND also had asked about when I had called to confirm the reservation. (A gentleman assured me when I called that there would be no problem getting a 2nd floor room, he was making a note of it!) I was abruptly told no, nothing was available, no reason, no explanation and no apology!

We were given a key to room 106B, after a long walk to our room, the key did not open the door. We walked back to reception, the staff argued with us that it was the right key, finally figured out that it was wrong and gave us the correct key. We opened the door to a room with a filthy deck chair, large burn holes in the bed spreads and the disgusting smell of mildew and mothballs. And the door would not stay locked when we left the room. We walked back to reception yet again, and said we were not comfortable leaving our belongings in a room that could not be locked properly. One of the woman replied: “Don’t worry, no one will touch your things.” They again refused to change the room, saying the only room they had available had a small leak from the floor above it, but they would show it to us if we wanted to switch. It was worse than the one we were already in! The bathroom was disgusting, and they never should have shown it to us!

About a half hour later, Ms. Jennifer Bass appeared to tell us they suddenly have a room available. Room 104 A. It was clean, and the key worked, but it wasn’t the 2nd floor, it had no iron, no patio furniture, the stove didn’t work and there was an incredibly loud noise from the other rooms whenever they used the water. We couldn’t call to ask about any of these problems, why?? Because the phone didn’t work!! Every time we had a problem it required one of us walking back to reception to be treated coldly and indifferently by different staff members. (We did get patio furniture later in the day and our phone fixed 2 days later.)

When we checked out, not one person asked if we had any concerns, if we enjoyed our stay, thanked us for coming, etc.

The issues in the room were all minor, but this was our vacation. We have traveled to the Caribbean many times and have been to St. Kitts quite often. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because we had read on line that the staff was so pleasant & helpful??!! The total lack of concern or care spoiled what should have been a relaxing and fun visit.
