The Frigate Bay Resort sits just above the beach at Frigate Bay. The beach itself isn't that great but there's plenty of nightlife there. It's just a 3-4 minute walk from your room which isn't that bad. There are many restaurants within a short walk or drive though. We weren't that impressed with Jasmines but it is convenient being across the pool and not too expensive if you want to eat close by.

We got a poolside room with a kitchenette. It turned out to be a great option for us. We went by a nearby grocery store and picked up everything we would need for breakfast and lunch during the week. We used the savings to splurge on dinner at some of the nicer restaurants. The kitchenette we had was furnished with a stove, a mid sized refrigerator, coffeemaker, and toaster oven. We though we would miss a microwave but it turned out to be not that big a deal. We had to ask for a frying pan though. There wasn't one in the room strangely enough. Having a refrigerator also saved us in having to order drinks at the poolside bar. Our bed was a sofa bed with 2 mattresses. It was a little on the soft side and the pillows were a little lumpy. If you want a perfect bed or if you have back problems, you might want to look someplace else. For us, it was very comfortable.

The hotel itself is older but well kept. It wasn't built to take advantage of the breezes but all of the rooms are furnished with air conditioning so we were comfortable. The balconies offer views of the pool and restaurant but little else. If I were booking again, I'd get one of the 3rd floor rooms on the far end of the property. From there you can see both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. If you have children, get one of the first floor rooms by the pool. It's much more convenient not having to navigate stairs every time you go to the pool.

The staff was very helpful throughout our stay. After discovering my interest in soccer, the manager arranged for me to meet the local championship football club and attend one of their practices. It was a great experience.

Overall I'd say, if you want a nice rooms at a good location, Frigate Bay s a solid choice. If you want to be a little closer to the beach and the live music, check out the Timothy Beach Hotel. Keep in mind though that you'll probably be driving to a beach out on the peninsula as opposed to staying at Frigate Bay.

Frigate Bay Resort is a simple resort but I wasn't looking for night life, spas or any of the other stuff available at the big resorts that I can get at home and rarely use. Had a Studio unit that was well equiped. The buildings are older, but so is my house, and clean. Clean towels everyday whether we needed them or not. Fabulous pool; one of the main reasons I selected this resort. Always clean, great refreshing temperature, and a person can actually swim in it instead of just standing or floating around. Actually has a deep end. I'm a swimmer and I swam lengths 6 out of the 7 days there. Loved it. No one seemed to know for sure how long it was but based on my swims I estimated it's close to being a 25m pool. Friendly staff, always keeping up the appearance of the grounds. My teenage son was a bit bored but that happens when you are an only child and travelling with Mom. If you like simple this is the place to go but if you need Posh then go to the Marriott and pay the price. Able to get to both the Atlantic and Caribean from the resort. Air conditioning worked well but I hardly used it because I prefer leaving the windows open and running the fan. Fabulous night serenades by the night creatures. Will return to this resort.

We chose this Hotel without seeing the first review about it.Somehow it was just what we were looking for.We went to relax and have a nice place for a 12 year old to enjoy. The staff made our stay wonderful and did everything they could do for our daughter. We left feeling like friends not just tourist. The restaurant (Jasmines)had food that blow our socks off.Chef Jason took some special request and made sure our daughter always had a side of his Johnny Cakes!!

As a seasoned traveller of the West Indies I would say that the FBR is probably the best value your money can buy. For $120 you sleep normally in shack in the West Indies. The staff are very friendly, the food is excellent and the pool just fantastic. Biggest I have seen anywhere down there. The rooms are a bit worn out but they are definately clean and functional. The hotel has a laid back and relaxed atmosphaere which suits people who looking to relieve stress fast. It is not a place where you get your nightlife kick sorted out. A week in this place has the magic that I am human again and my stress levels have completely resided. I found this little gem 5 years ago and always make it a stop if I am in the area. I like it so much that this year I will visit it a second time in November after been there already in April 07.

It's a unpretentious place and I wonder if some of the critisism I have seen on this site, which prompted me to do my first ever review of a hotel, lays in the misconception of some cheap tricks who are not prepared to pay the $400 - $600 per night to live their dream, but try to compare the FBR against it.
Here are some suggestions of hotels I have visited in the past which may fit your bill if you can afford it. Peter Island BVI, Half Moon Bay Resort BVI, St. James Club Antigua, Young Island St. Vincent to name a few.

Critisism should always have a base and the FBR is fantastic if you don't want or can't spend a fortune. Keep this in mind when visiting this enchanting place.

After reading the mixed reviews we wondered what we'd find. We were very happy with the location. Very quiet complex. The pool was great and the swim up bar made it almost perfect. The rooms were clean and had been recently updated. No problem with bugs. The blow dryer was missing and we called to reguest one and they brought it within 30 minutes. We only ate breakfast at the restaurant and it was good but how can you ruin eggs and waffles. It was a bit pricey. We spent each evening at the Shiggidy Shack which was only a short walk from the hotel. It's on a nice beach and the food was fantastic. Lobster was to die for and as fresh as you can get. Be prepared to drink lots of Rum drinks since that's pretty much the only thing around. We took a taxi tour of the island and it was more than worth the $80 bucks we paid. There were three of us and the driver spent 5-6 hours taking us around the entire island and stopped at the main attractions and let us wonder around. Never felt rushed. I highly recommend this hotel for it's location and the very relaxed atmosphere. We were looking for a place to slow down and kick back and this fit the bill.
