The Frigate Bay Resort sits just above the beach at Frigate Bay. The beach itself isn't that great but there's plenty of nightlife there. It's just a 3-4 minute walk from your room which isn't that bad. There are many restaurants within a short walk or drive though. We weren't that impressed with Jasmines but it is convenient being across the pool and not too expensive if you want to eat close by.
We got a poolside room with a kitchenette. It turned out to be a great option for us. We went by a nearby grocery store and picked up everything we would need for breakfast and lunch during the week. We used the savings to splurge on dinner at some of the nicer restaurants. The kitchenette we had was furnished with a stove, a mid sized refrigerator, coffeemaker, and toaster oven. We though we would miss a microwave but it turned out to be not that big a deal. We had to ask for a frying pan though. There wasn't one in the room strangely enough. Having a refrigerator also saved us in having to order drinks at the poolside bar. Our bed was a sofa bed with 2 mattresses. It was a little on the soft side and the pillows were a little lumpy. If you want a perfect bed or if you have back problems, you might want to look someplace else. For us, it was very comfortable.
The hotel itself is older but well kept. It wasn't built to take advantage of the breezes but all of the rooms are furnished with air conditioning so we were comfortable. The balconies offer views of the pool and restaurant but little else. If I were booking again, I'd get one of the 3rd floor rooms on the far end of the property. From there you can see both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. If you have children, get one of the first floor rooms by the pool. It's much more convenient not having to navigate stairs every time you go to the pool.
The staff was very helpful throughout our stay. After discovering my interest in soccer, the manager arranged for me to meet the local championship football club and attend one of their practices. It was a great experience.
Overall I'd say, if you want a nice rooms at a good location, Frigate Bay s a solid choice. If you want to be a little closer to the beach and the live music, check out the Timothy Beach Hotel. Keep in mind though that you'll probably be driving to a beach out on the peninsula as opposed to staying at Frigate Bay.
