As a seasoned traveller of the West Indies I would say that the FBR is probably the best value your money can buy. For $120 you sleep normally in shack in the West Indies. The staff are very friendly, the food is excellent and the pool just fantastic. Biggest I have seen anywhere down there. The rooms are a bit worn out but they are definately clean and functional. The hotel has a laid back and relaxed atmosphaere which suits people who looking to relieve stress fast. It is not a place where you get your nightlife kick sorted out. A week in this place has the magic that I am human again and my stress levels have completely resided. I found this little gem 5 years ago and always make it a stop if I am in the area. I like it so much that this year I will visit it a second time in November after been there already in April 07.
It's a unpretentious place and I wonder if some of the critisism I have seen on this site, which prompted me to do my first ever review of a hotel, lays in the misconception of some cheap tricks who are not prepared to pay the $400 - $600 per night to live their dream, but try to compare the FBR against it.
Here are some suggestions of hotels I have visited in the past which may fit your bill if you can afford it. Peter Island BVI, Half Moon Bay Resort BVI, St. James Club Antigua, Young Island St. Vincent to name a few.
Critisism should always have a base and the FBR is fantastic if you don't want or can't spend a fortune. Keep this in mind when visiting this enchanting place.
