The Timothy Beach is a traditional Caribbean beach hotel.. It is not the Marriott. The staff was friendly, restaurant service good, and location convenient.
The rooms are not fancy. They are clean, bright, and comfortable. We had an oceanview (cost an extra $10 per night, off-season) room with cable TV, good aircon, ceiling fan, and small refrigerator.
The room and whole resort was very clean and the landscaping well kept. The beach is nice, on the calm Caribbean side. The Sunset Beach Bar was friendly and attracted "walk-overs" from the Marriott. Several beach bars are a stones throw away.

Timothy's was recommended by friends who stayed there twice and liked it. However we weren't so lucky there is only one surly person on all of St. Kitts and she is at the desk of TBR. We arrived having only slept 2 hours and were told that there was no reservation from Orbitz and even after showing our paperwork, we were told to come back in an hour. Then our room had an a/c with no thermostat, it was either off or on, had to get up in the night several times. The tv didn't work and had bad connection to cable and had no tv for 3 nights. Wouldn't move us to another room that they clearly had because" we hadn't paid for a better type of room". The location by the beach and the beach 'shacks' gives you: beach, cheaper food and entertainment on Thurs-
Saturday. However we could still here the music thru earplugs, so be prepared, at least it was good island music. The surly lady insulted the cab driver that came to pick us up for our first day trip and that helped us 'bond'. He was a real find, he has lived in England and worked there, has 2 Oxford educated sons and doesn't have as strong of an island accent and is easier to understand. We booked for a trip around the island and he was great, introducing us to a local restaurant that was good and cheap island food, went back 3 times! We would just call him whenever we went somewhere, you will need a taxi a few times, so here is his name and #: Gordon Carey [----]. . St Kitts is great, do the catamaran/snorkel trip to Nevis, the people here don't treat you like a tourist and do the volcano hike, you can do it!!!

We have just returned from our third trip to St Kitts and each time we have stayed at TBR. The important thing to remember about TBR is that it is not a hotel in the true sense of the word. It is really a collection of apartments/condos. We were on a breakfast plan which was great as it meant breakfast was taken care of (although the choice was not huge) and meant that for the rest of the time we were free to try other restaurants. There is much to be said about St Kitts, Nevis and the many restaurants, things to do etc on the island but the purpose of posting this review is to commend TBR. The staff are fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble. The addition of The Docks bar is a real plus as it allows you to sit with a rum punch, watch the sunset and chat with other travellers and locals. What more can you wish for! It really improved our trip and gave the resort a focal point. They also have a live band and a BBQ on a Sunday. We missed the BBQ but the live band was great fun...lots of dancing! TBR is not luxurious but the rooms are spacious, clean and the ocean view is perfect. After all, how much time do you really spend in the room anyway. We have been fortunate enough to visit several Caribbean island and St Kitts is the only one we have returned to. It is not something that we would normally do, but we have stayed at TBR three times now and would go back again in a heartbeat. If you accept that the accomodation is basic, you really cannot fault the place. As you are not tied to the resort by being all-inclusive it really feels like you are living on the island rather than being a tourist on the island. For us, it is fast becoming a second home!
The Sunset Cafe is fine for breakfast but does not have a great ambience for an evening meal. However, other people that we spoke to that had eaten there said it was some of the best food they had had on the island so it's worth giving it a go if you accept it's not a romantic, candles on the table kind of place! Since our return we have e-mailed TBR to thank them and they responded with a lovely e-mail, saying they are looking forward to seeing us again! How many other places in the world would bother to do that!
It really is a lovely low-key resort...we recommend it 100%, go and enjoy yourselves!

“Liming in St Kitts”

Timothy Beach Resort

Feb 25, 2008
10/10 found this review helpful

In a true spirit of last minute travel we booked a vacation in Timothy Beach Hotel, a night before the departure. Sun Quest had a great deal on St Kitts travel and we were in urgent need of hot sun and ice cold Pina Coladas. First we couldn’t decide between Marriott or Timothy Beach, but now looking back at our experience, no regrets on our choice.

I don’t think this experience is for everyone. If you are looking for perfectly manicured lawns, groomed beaches and never leaving your resort through your vacation, this hotel is not for you. My advice is, choose Bermuda! It will definitely deliver all those things.

Also St Kitts is a Caribbean Island on the richer side the scale, so doesn’t expect people to bend over backwards for a dollar tip. Locals probably make as much as you do at home.

However for some sweet liming (local term for chilling) time the island is great, so is the resort.

The property:
The building itself is older, but the rooms are spacious and clean, the balcony is huge (by the way, the upgrade to the Oceanview room is worth it, as you wouldn’t get a balcony otherwise). It is not luxurious, and the amenities are very simple (soap), so bring your own shampoo, conditioner etc. However, the maids are really good, and they will make sure you always have clean towels, sheets and the room is tidy.
Air conditioners were strong and quite, which is great, as nights are pretty hot, and it does get noisy at night from the beach shack parties outside.

The Pool:
The pool is bit too simple, and a bit cold, but completely empty. And as a special bonus you can see monkeys on the tree near by. Monkeys are very cool, and you can only see them in Barbados and St Kitts.

The Beach:
It is not a white sand groomed beach as you see on brochures for Dominican or Cuba. The Sand is gold and there is some debris, but it is a best beach hotel on the island, as it is on Caribbean side (Marriott is on Atlantic), so you can enjoy, bright aquamarine water, that is warm and bathtub calm. By the way we met few people that were staying at the Marriott on this trip and they preferred our beach to the stormy, colder but better groomed one in Marriott. Beach shacks are also super neat. You can enjoy a frosty “man’s beer” Stag (one of the cheap tasty local brews) or ubiquitous Heineken right in your bathing suite. Food is also available and varies from unpretentious chicken wings to my personal favorite sweet and fresh Caribbean lobster.

The Restaurant:
It is OK, but overpriced, and quality of the food isn’t that great. The service is quite slow, which is not that surprising as the whole island leaves in “Caribbean Time”….. It is way better deal to dine at one of the beach shacks. Oh, Lobster, I miss you already.
Excursions:
We really enjoyed our catamaran excursion to the sister island Nevis. However, heads up, there are a couple of catamaran tour providers on the island. One has yellow catamarans, and another one (actually the one we booked through Sun Quest has blue ones.) As insignificant the color difference might seem to you, these 2 providers are rather different:
Yellow Catamarans:
- smaller (so less space)
- no booze before snorkeling
- way better food
- free Killer Bee cocktails in Nevis (the killer bee cocktails is a whole different story, but I will hold on to that one until better times)

Blue Catamarans:
- Large a spacious
- Tasty beverages before and after swimming
- Meh food
- Killer bees are at extra charge

We chose Blue guys and the trip was loads of fun. The snorkeling reef we stopped at was also incredible, and snorkeling gear provided was comfortable and clean.

We also went scuba diving with Kenneth Dive shop, it was one of the best dives I’ve ever had. It was also my boyfriend’s best dive, but as it was his first one this information isn’t very valuable at all

Overall: really fun times, if you want your freedom of choice on what to do and when to do it. Also the resort gives you an amazing feeling that locals actually treat you as a person, not as a bag full of shiny coins.

Would definitely return and spend more time…
So long monkeys!

Having just returned from St. Kitts/Nevis, I felt compelled to write this review of the Timothy Beach Resort. We chose this location based on two factors: the overall positive reviews by fellow
TripAdvisor members and the location on the beach and nearby party scene. Having recommended this hotel to our traveling, were were extremely embarassed upon arriving at the "resort". I agree with a previous reviewer who more accurately classified the T.B.R. as a "budget motel". We had considerably higher expectations for the $260/nite one bedroom suites we reserved. While the rooms were spacious, both units were dark and musty. The bathrooms were moldy with cracked tiles and leaky plumbing. One unit also had ants in the bathroom. The furnishings in both were shabby and outdated. The air-conditioners were noisy and dripping condensation on the floors. As others have mentioned, the long uphill hike with luggage provided quite a challenge. Fortunately we were able to check-out the following morning and "cut our losses".
On a positive note, the T.B.R. is a great location for bar-hopping along Frigate Bay. Noise from the adjacent beach shack bars was not an issue as our units were located on the far end of the property and possibly masked by the loud air-conditioner. Travelers who like the party scene and our able to rent a unit for considerably less might be less critical and able to overlook the shortcomings of the Timothy Beach Resort.
